  Good game. I actually liked the original for the price, but it had its faults. Devs spent time working on making it better, and then made sure everyone who had the original got the new version for free. Good on them. Some of the more ethical, hard-working devs I've seen on Steam.

  [h1]Even though I refunded the game, I have to do a brutally honest recommendation.[/h1] First of all; I'm an strategy/RPG player, the only kind of survival games I play are those that's integrated into the roleplaying aspect of the games. This game wasn't for me. I felt railroaded when it came to the options. "Do you want to be stealthy, melee or firepower?", "Do you side with the man who's child was just gunned down by three baddies, or do you want to ignore them all together and go back to the camp and drink tea?". The depth of the choices felt as deep as a puddle, but even if it has it's flaws, the writing is really well written. Dialogues might not be the game's strong point, but the setting is amazing. The harsh weather and environment feels really immersive, making me go and put on some socks in the middle of July] So overall; Will I play more of this game? No. It's not a game for me nor a game that suits my preferences. Would I recommend it? Yes. This is the hard part, recommending a game you don't fancy playing, but the artwork is so amazing, the writing has it's really good moments and the craftingsystem is actually somewhat rewarding (you will often have use of everything you pick up). [b]TL:DR[/b] If you like survivalgames with amazing artwork and some light chose-your-adventure-esque feelings, go with this game!

  ICY: Frostbite Edition is a post-apocalyptic story driven survival R.P.G. developed by Inner Void and published by Digital Tribe. This title takes place in a distant future during a new Ice-Age where the remnants of humanity try to eke out a living as best they can in the harsh environment and terrible conditions of what's left of the world that once was. After suffering an attack from raiders and being captured, you witness some of your friends getting sold to a strange group of heavily armed mercenaries. Shortly after that you and a few other random people are eventually able to escape your captors and run for freedom. As the leader of this new group of survivors, it's up to you to guide them across the White Wasteland and track down the mercenaries who've taken your friends while also making vital decisions that could mean life or death for your new family of nomads. You'll have to brave the rough elements as well as viscious wild animals and ruthless raiders while you scavenge for supplies, hunt for food and find shelter. If you encounter new people, who do you trust? If conflict with another group arises do you fight or run? Prepare yourself for a thought provoking, emotionally charged and highly immersive adventure through a very believable post apocalyptic world as you lead your travelers in their quest for survival, revenge and redemption. [h1]GAMEPLAY[/h1] The gameplay of this title is absolutely superb in that it successfully blends alot of terrific genres together such as survival, visual novel, turn-based combat and R.P.G.. The game also does a fantastic job of immersing you in a snow covered dystopian future where survival is paramount but not guaranteed and death could be just around the corner. Your decisions could affect not only you and your group of nomads but the lives of others as well so choose wisely. The wonderful narrative for the most part plays like an intriguing visual novel with you traveling across the land in hopes of locating your friends that were traded off. Along the way you'll track down leads and meet many interesting people some of whom may choose to join your group if you allow them. You'll also happen across a number of locations and settlements as you move about many of which can be scavenged for much needed supplies if you should decide to take the risk. When I say risk I mean that there's always a chance that you could encounter hostiles in the form of bandits, looters, wild animals or far worse in some of these dilapidated buildings and ruins. In order to avoid injury or death to some of your people it sometimes may be best to air on the side of caution and just move on. However, if you're bold and brave enough you could potentially walk away with a bevy of useful loot for your group. The choice is yours. The game has some light R.P.G. elements in that you can choose the gender and likeness of your character as well as acquire a number of experience points as you complete quests over the course of the narrative. These points can then be applied to a variety of skills such as melee or firearms for combat and scavenge, exploration, stealth, hunting, etc. for the other survival attributes. There is also a large selection of weapons and armor that can be acquired from scavenging, looted from defeated opponents or crafted from various materials. Combat takes place when you either have to defend yourselves from hostiles or you decide to initiate a battle for whatever reason you deem worthy. The battles are a unique type of turn-based combat that I've not encountered in any game prior and just alot of fun once you learn the mechanics. Fair warning as the battles are difficult when you start out but as your people increase their skills and obtain better weapons and armor the playfield evens out significantly. There's also something to be said for strength in numbers so kicking everyone out of your group just because you don't like them may not play to your benefit in the future? In short, the addictive gameplay will keep you coming back time and time again as the story unfolds. [h1]VISUALS[/h1] The visual presentation of this game is excellent. The various locations that you visit and the people you encounter as well as other beasts and mutants that cross your path are depicted in an abundance of beautiful hand painted images lush with a variety of colors and laden with effects such as depth of field. This title doesn't have voiced dialogue but the gorgeous and highly detailed portrait images are enough to illicit an idea of the individuals personality just from the illustrations alone. Also, the picturesque images of the snow covered landscape do a fantastic job of conveying the bleakness of the current Ice-Age that has taken hold of the Earth. Playing this game really makes one ponder about what it would be like to live under such conditions? What would you do to survive? I found myself really enjoying the way that this title makes you feel like you're part of this not so ideal yet intriguing world. To summarize, the outstanding visuals truly complement the interesting narrative of this exceptional gaming experience. [h1]CONCLUSION[/h1] I loved this title from beginning to end as the story was mesmerizing, the turn-based combat addictive and the title just highly immersive. The superb writing and beautifully drawn images really do a fantastic job of transporting you to this unique world. The developers also did an excellent job of merging alot of different genres together such as visual novel, R.P.G., survival and turn-based combat while wrapping them around a truly fascinating story that is rich with post-apocalyptic lore. The survival aspects of the title were very enjoyable as you'll find yourselves constantly on the hunt for much needed supplies and medicines for your group. The thrill that you get from successfully scavenging an abandoned apartment block or a dilapidated farmhouse and recovering some prime items is just priceless. As far as options go, there are a number of Steam Achievements to hunt down and Steam Trading Cards to collect as well. In conclusion, I think this title would appeal to anyone craving a story-rich post-apocalyptic adventure with R.P.G. elements so ICY: Frostbite Edition is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to fans of any or all of those genres.

  I'll start this off by saying that the first ICY was not a game I enjoyed very much. It was needlessly difficult, clunky, and obtuse and I gave up on it after a bit. Frostbite Edition fixes literally everything. Bugged dialogue, broken or wonky features, an adequate difficult range, interface fixes that are so massive it makes the game feel like a proper sequel. The combat system is really great, too, different but it services the game well. I never once felt unsatisfied whereas in the first iteration of ICY I absolutely hated combat, I avoided it at all costs and ended up uninstalling due to how user unfriendly it was. But in the Frostbite Edition I'd venture to say that I'm sad that I didn't get more game to play. The exploration, the quests, the characters, all of it was great! The only thing I could think about being added is a genuine system dedicated to companions. Romances, friendships, rivalries. The individual bits and bobs about the characters are great, though the randomized nature of the game at times makes it seem like you can miss things before the final battle and, potentially, lose a companion you have kitted out with valuable gear. It's an indie title with a lot of heart, great fun and an amazing story. Pick it up and play it!

  Post-apocalyptic world. Bandits. Mutants. Cannibals. Slavery. Hoarded resources. A lawless world. Basically, the story is like Mad Max but with a frozen wasteland instead of a desert. A short, but fun survival game.

  A small but nice RPG with survival elements. The plot is nice, the characters believable, crafting is needed to survive, fights are a little chaotic but fun. I'm actually finding it better than I thought. Also, there are tattoed boobs in the game. Definitely a plus.

  Coming into this game I was excited to see the story it offered as well the amount of strategy that would be involved in the decisions you made. However after playing it for a few hours, sadly I was dissapointed by the mechanics in this game. The writing and story seems okay from what I can tell nothing amazing but it isn't terrible either. Where the game really takes a dive for me is in its mechanics. For example hunting and resting work completely differently then they do when you initially jump into the game. Where at first you have decisions as to how to hunt prey and when to head back and set up camp etc. Immediately after you're told when you stay and rest, and as for hunting, you simply move your group to the forest and are told what you found. The combat is even worse, your weapon types have next to no effect on the game other then damage, meaning whether you and the enemy both have guns or you have rifles and they have knives. You're still going to have to fight as the fight is forced until one group dies and on top of that both groups will take damage as well. It makes next to no sense and kills the immersion when your options are so limited. As for replayability the items you find are the same everytime it seems and isn't that feeling of maybe i'll find something here that I didn't last time or vice versa. Though I had high hopes for this game I can honestly say it's not worth the money, unless these issues get fixed.

  Immersive light exploration of a post-apo frozen earth is on the menu with a few immersive elements such as dialogue choices and "events along the way". The management part is light as well (ressource gathering, crafting and equiping your party) but doesn't get in the way of the node based exploration and well written narrative. Combat is quite original since it requires you to combine skills from your whole team into actions: Each turn you are given a set of skills randomly picked from your "skill bag" consisting of all skills of your characters and their equiped gear. Then you have to combine those skills (up to four at once) to generate your group actions for the turn. The result is quite convincing and i really enjoyed leading the group of survivors through the snow and dusty buildings.

  This game is criminally underrated, I have no idea why I haven't heard more about it. Picked it up during the sale as an afterthought and only a combination of my internet going out and insomnia the other night made me start it up. Well suffice to say I was hooked. It reminded me of NEO Scavenger in a lot of ways except plot driven and with visual novel style conversations with a huge cast of characters all throughout it. There are choices to make all throughout it, mostly just for flavor with the dialogue or dealing with individual challenges that need a touch of stealth or speechcraft or special tools and so on, but there are places it clearly would've changed the outcome of the overall story. I'm going to have to play this again just to see how deep it goes with the plot branching. Combat is simple and fun and the story is engaging with just the right amount of survival aspects and crafting tacked on that it deepens the experience without being distracting. Really the only criticism I have is that later in the game the inventory and crafting menu gets pretty unwieldy, they really could've used some options for organization.

  i'ed say nope a A liner Visual novel in disguise an absolute wast of time for me, predicable story line you don't have a real choice at all for every single interaction so far i had the same outcome (even though you are the leader but somehow your old friend always disagree and we go by his so called advice anyway ) even on the matter of life and "death" fake choices matter tag
