Don't make the mistake I made with the Four Pack. Read this first. "You can play doubles with 4 human players on 1 computer, or on 2 computers with 2 players per computer by LAN or Internet, but not on 4 computers."

Fantastic tennis game, just: - Do not expect it to be like Virtua Tennis or other arcade tennis, because it's not. - Do not expect to just start winning, the system takes getting use to. - Do read the modding forum on here and install mods early on (you even get an achievement for it!). - Do read the manual, available at the website. Seriously, it makes the control system make more sense. - Do turn on ALL of the PREVIEWS when you first start. It's a wonderful crutch for learning. - Do not expect graphics to be wonderful, but did you come to play tennis, or look at pretty things? Once all that is done, and you lose your first few matches horribly, it starts making sense and getting fun!

Been playing the Tennis Elbow series since TE2009 and have more than a 1000 hours plugged into TE2013. During my time of playing TE2013 I've played through Virtua Tennis 3 and 4 and 4WT. Smash Court Tennis 3 and Top Spin 3/4. What makes TE2013 so appealing over the years is the gameplay. It is hands down the best gameplay of any tennis game. The controls are the best of any tennis game because you are actually able to dictate the spin, the height, the depth and the power of the ball accurately and this is one of the only games that understands the physics of tennis and understand that ball can go anywhere and anything can happen in a rally. There's no predeterminted calculations of where the ball is going to go, it's not going to end up in the same places, there's actual variety presented in the shot you play and how you react to an incoming shot. You can't stand 5 feet inside the baseline and expect to blast winners into each corner with 100% consistency. It follows the semantics of real life tennis so accurately that rallies look authentic. Yes the graphics need modernizing, TE4 I hope with it being based on Unity and with the developer's excellent track record in allow the game to be easily modded will take that next step in terms of being a complete game. The vanilla version of the game is fine but there is also a wonderful community that have modded so much into the game in terms of character customization items, stadiums, logos that you can get a much more rounded game with them. Also, this has to be one of the first tennis games where the animations of players are actually accurate, again down to the system implemented to add custom animations. And those animations actually matter as well in terms of the timing and placement of the shot. It's actually frightening how I think that 1 guy developing this game can create better animations and allow a system in place for easy custom animations to be modded in than modern titles that have been released (AO Tennis and Tennis World Tour) I emplore you if you're a fan of Tennis and really want a well rounded experience where you can actually learn a pretty in-depth fun game that has the best gameplay for a tennis game then you need to buy this and support the developer. It is continually updated and the next TE is in development which should improve upon what is already a very very good foundation.

Tennis Elbow 2013 is one of few games available on PC that actually covers tennis. From the screenshots it looks like a decent indie tennis title with aged graphics and a funny name. But is that all it is? Or are its looks deceiving? This is what I think of Tennis Elbow 2013. This game surprised me in the best of ways. After taking a keen interest in the sport earlier this year and following the WTA, I wanted a good tennis game that I could play here on Steam. I didn't know of this title until I saw someone mention how great it was on reddit and I decided to take the plunge and purchase it. And boy was it worth it. After struggling to get to grips with janky controls and being dismayed at the UI ripped straight from developmental hell in the 90's I was ready to write the game off as a bad purchase. But I persevered with it. I was losing matches and being humiliated but I was...enjoying it. I got used to the controls and began to appreciate the weight and depth to its mechanics. This isn't just an indie tennis game. It's a serious simulation. The controls are not easy to learn and the help screens confuse you with strange key mapping but once you learn about the different shots you can use and bind them to more natural keys, you'll soon be bossing it on the courts. You'll have to learn to time your shots or you'll be hitting balls into the centre of the court leading to inevitably being picked off. During rallies, you'll have to carefully position for certain shots or you'll mis-hit them. I wouldn't exactly say it's easy to learn but it's definitely difficult to master. Luckily there are a number of difficulties, six of them, each with a subset of ten levels. You can switch difficulties on the fly, even during the match, so the game is as easy or hard as you want it. The game really comes into its own in its main mode; the World Tour. You can pick an existing player or create one yourself and rise from a rookie to a Grand Slam champion. There is great customization for you to create the player you want and you can assign some starting skill points into different attributes for your player. This ranges from the power in your forehand and backhand strokes, whether you have a good serve or not, speed and stamina and specialization shots such as the drop shot and lob. Once your character is done it's time to play tennis. Having only played Top Spin 4, I'm not an authority on tennis games but this World Tour is excellent. There are dozens of different tournaments to play in with each week on a variety of different surfaces. It's all a bit overwhelming but in a good way. As a rookie, you'll have to enter the lowest tier tournaments and work your way up, playing against a roster of 1000 players. You'll even have to play qualifier matches just to compete, just like in the real sport. You earn XP every tournament and the better you do, the faster you'll improve. It's excellent when you finally make a name for yourself, not to mention satisfying. This is the best representation I've seen of tennis in a game, but apart from the mechanics on the court, it's incredibly bare-bones. In Top Spin 4 you had little random events that would require a little input, such as opening a local night club or attending events. This game would improve a lot with a similar approach but the great gameplay more than makes up for that. The graphics are very dated, even for an older game, and the aforementioned UI is truly terrible. Which brings us to the last thing I'd like to talk about. Mods. This game is highly moddable and the number of high quality mods available for it enhance the experience. With mods that simulate both ATP and WTA tours with character likenesses, real names(different but recognizable names in the base game,) custom courts, scoreboards, stat sheets and new UI mods, the world is your oyster. All in all, this game is the best tennis game available right now. While its hard to play at first, once you get into the game you'll be hooked. But if you aren't a tennis fan, this game probably won't be for you as it's all about what happens on court and nothing else. As a tennis fan, this is one of the best purchases I've made, I've had many epic matches and I'll be sure to enjoy many more. A wholehearted recommendation from me!

First off, yes, the graphics aren't very good. Sometimes the players move a bit awkwardly and the overall look of the game (UI in particular) is quite dated. Seeing this initially turned me off from the game, but it seemed like people really enjoyed its accurate gameplay. I had previously played Virtua Tennis 3 on the PS3 and later purchased and enjoyed Top Spin 4 because it was less arcade-y. But Tennis Elbow 13 blows both out of the water in terms of precise gameplay that really simulates tennis. There are a number of things about it that I really like, but the most notable is the realism when it comes to unforced errors. In most other tennis games, it's either impossible to make an unforced error (other than double faulting) or it's ridiculously difficult and will only happen after your player is extremely tired. This means that you can paint the lines on basically every shot without any risk involved. In this game, you have to precisely aim your shot and if you aim too close to the line, you may miss. If you're in an awkward position when you do it, there's a much bigger circle of uncertainty around your aimed shot, so you can easily miss if you go for too much. Some people might have issues with the lack of licensed players, but I personally find the obvious knock-offs absolutely hilarious. Riccardo Fidirir, Nenad Djakavec, and Ruben Nodol will never fail to make me laugh. (Plus, I think there may be mods that you can download to make these accurate) There's also a ton of granularity when it comes to skill customization and opponent level (4 levels, 10 sublevels per level). Overall, I would really recommend this game to people who want a true tennis sim. The graphics don't really bother you after a bit because the gameplay is so good and immersive (the satisfaction of struggling to beat an opponent, but then succeeding 4-6 7-6(4) 7-6(5) is fantastic). However, if you want a more arcade-y game with great graphics, Virtua Tennis is probably the way to go. For anyone who is planning on getting this game, I really recommend using a gamepad. I personally use a PS3 controller connected to my Macbook via Bluetooth and have mapped the D-pad for movement, the X button for topspin, the square button for slice, the circle button for an accelerated shot, and the triangle button for a defensive lob. I find that it works very well. (Normally, I prefer to use the analog stick for movement, but you also use the movement input for shot aiming, which requires a lot of precision. Thus, I use the D-pad, which I got used to pretty quickly)

Although it is obvious that the graphics are outdated and that there are no pro superstars to play with by default, however this game brings to the table one of the most realistic tennis simulation experiences out there. There is a high level of complexity and it is not a simple three or four button game. There are button combinations which makes you do specific shots and player positioning actually matters in this game, which is something you wouldn't see too much in a game like 'Virtua Tennis 4' where you just hold a single button and you playing automatically positions him/herself perfectly to the ball. Thankfully, the files are easily moddable which means that it is possible to bring in tennis superstars if you wish and change other things like tournament settings. I would only recommend this game if you are a big tennis fan and want a complex tennis simulator where you want to be able to have full control of your shots and player, and to also be challenged.

Do you like Tennis? If the answer is yes, this game can be ok for you. Easy to play, difficult to master. In my book this means longevity, replayability and tons of fun! The game can be played single player (for example career mode) or multiplayer (competitive play). Recommended!

Played lots of tennis games, VT, TS etc. Tennis Elbow is far superior in terms of gameplay and realism. Yes the graphics aren't good, and the UI is ugly. But it feels like playing tennis. Buy this game if you have ever played tennis for real. You will feel and play like you do on a real court.

Geez, this is a good tennis game. Granted, the last tennis videogame I played was maybe 25 years ago, and the last time I played tennis on an actual court was just as long ago, but Tennis Elbow, like a lot of the other reviews say, really captures the lightning in a bottle of a real tennis match. Forehands, backhands, slices, lobs, serves, everything feels and sounds so damn good here. Extensive customization of your player is available, from clothing, skin and hair to the animations used for the different racquet strokes (a lot of which are modeled after famous players' moves, which is cool), so you can really individualize your little tennis dude or dudette, right down to what kind of scream/grunt/aneurysm you want them to have when serving or hitting a strong shot. All of that is superb. The UI while navigating the menus is fairly bad. Well... no, it's really bad. (Use the keyboard & mouse for the menus, otherwise you're gonna get frustrated.) Same goes for the graphics. They aren't anything to write home about, but your view of the tennis match is by necessity a birds-eye view anyway, and besides, when the gameplay is this fantastic, who cares? Tennis Elbow nails two experiences simultaneously: the sounds and colors and excitement of watching Wimbledon or one of the Opens on TV and the breathless mental and physical game of tennis itself. Bonus: there's a decent modding community behind TE2013 as well, which you may want to check out as there are UI fixes and other goodies readily available. Bit pricey, sure, so maybe wait for a sale, but it's absolutely worth it if you love tennis!
