You never know what true horrors might lurk behind that charming, suburban front door.

You’re Luna Youngman, a Criminal Analyst for the District Attorneys Office, set on weeding out the villains in your sleepy town while using various applications on your home computer. In this survivor horror you’ll search through a database full of reports to determine what kind of person lurks behind each one. Everything from cell phone images, decades-old police reports, recent purchases, text conversations, social media accounts, and search history is only a click away to help you assess these reports and either mark them as threats or not. You accomplish these tasks while using the simulated computer system in the game, the A.D.O.S system with tools dedicated to help you. One of these tools being the RootKit which is a virtual cell phone cracking tool. Crack into the suspicious person by sliding around a slider to get the right code! Easy to understand but challenging to accomplish.

Like most of the population, you work during the day, but at night, your time is your own. It’s not as simple as staying awake through the night to file each report properly. There are killers on the loose, and the work you do has repercussions. In addition to the reports you must submit each night, you’ll need to keep an eye on your surroundings. Staying hyper-vigilant will get you far against these two malicious threats, eager to infiltrate your home. The last thing you want is to run the risk of getting caught off guard. You will accomplish this by walking around the immersive environment of Luna's home and making sure that windows are closed and the lights are on.

Collect evidence, correctly file your reports, and survive this horror experience the next simulated 10 nights. If you can keep yourself from getting kidnapped, killed, or worse, you might finally be able to relax. You just need to not die before reaching those sandy beaches you’ve been dreaming about, confident in a job well done.

Not a fan of jump scares?

This game does have jump scares, BUT it is one of the only few games that allow you to turn them off! So if you would like to still experience the interesting story and game play but have a faint of heart, you can simple turn off the jump scares right inside the options menu!

Looking for a more casual experience?

Not to worry! In Scrutinized there is an easy mode for you to enjoy the mechanics of the game and read all the interesting reports inside the simulated computer system.

Overall enjoyed this game quite a bit. Ended up beating it on normal/casual. "True ending" is locked behind normal difficulty, which imo is a bit too difficult for the standard player. With a bit of balance adjustments and possibly mechanics implemented in order to deal with the killers in an easier way during the later nights, the game could be in a great balance. A new "detective" mode was added as well which allows you to play the game without the killers coming after you. Unfortunately this mode also has the "bad ending", which I'm not a huge fan of. Nevertheless for $10 the game is definitely worth picking up even if you have no intention of beating it.

Detective mode is a great addition. I especially like the part where the noise cues are still there, so you'll hear footsteps behind you and a tapping at the window, and spend an inordinate amount of time desperately worrying that you forgot to select detective mode. A+ keeps the tension as it should be.
Reasons you might not like this game and fixes for it:
1. You hate jump scares. Turn them off in settings. Some deaths will feel a bit anti-climatic, though. 2. You don't like horror in general. Play Detective mode. It's pretty intense, still. I quite like it. 3. You don't want an overly stressful experience. Pause the game as you need. You can even do what I've been doing while I learn the game and just hit your Print Screen button, paste it into something (I use Paint), and take your time reading the report/texts without stressing out. (Yeah, I know this isn't playing as intended, but it's enjoyable.) 4. You're forgetful, like me. Make a separate spreadsheet to keep your notes on cases. (Again, not as intended.) 5. You hate randomness ruining a game. Find a therapist that specializes in hypnotherapy to remove the memories of this happening from your memory. (Probably don't get this if you can't laugh off luck/timing ruining your run.)
My thoughts
Honestly, I think I'm getting way more than my money's worth from this game. I think you should play it completely blind and just figure it out as you go. After you're fed up with not being able to figure something out, then maybe look up videos of people playing it, guides, etc. I think doing things like I listed above can really add a lot of hours to the gameplay and help you enjoy it more and tailor it to your playstyle/mood. Pros: + Sound design is very realistic. + I often get that "One more try" feeling when I fail or get unlucky. + Solving cases can feel so rewarding--especially when it doesn't go as you expect. + The slow, nonchalant pace of your walking forces you to prioritize. + I really enjoy the stressful gameplay loop and constant paranoia in the standard game. I haven't even beat Casual mode yet and I'm okay with that because I love the challenge of it. More hours of gameplay, right? Cons: - Some deaths seem to be entirely RNG. You just lose. There's no "Oh, I forgot to lock a window." lesson to be learned because you just got unlucky. Maybe this can be programmed out in the future but I doubt that will happen. - The evidences can feel unfair. Sometimes I solve it, pick the most incriminating things, and it gives me a wrong result and I have no idea why. Likely something I considered using was arbitrarily "better" than something I submitted. - At least one sound (I think there's a handful of them.) is irrelevant and is basically just a jump scare. This is really frustrating because you'll go up and check the house because you heard a knock on the window, realize you got tricked, and next time it's just annoying. (You'll notice these more when you play Detective mode.) - The Tanner camera jump scare is just that. It's just an annoying jump scare. It's the reason I turn off jump scares even though I don't mind the other ones in general. I actually quite love a few of them and prefer them to a screen just saying "You became a statistic." All in all, I think my complaints of the game are mostly nitpicks. You might think "What kind of game lets me just die at the start of day [insert here] because the Kidnapper just happened to break into my house before I could get there?" but my response would be "A real life kidnapper isn't going to wait around for you to close and lock your windows before attacking you. Sometimes uncontrollable bad stuff happens." If you're on the fence but hate the idea bad luck can ruin your game session, I'd say you should likely pass. Otherwise, I think this game is well worth buying and sinking hours into. I'm really enjoying it so far. I haven't even beat it, but I felt like I should write a review that Past Me would've liked to see.

I played and beat Welcome to the Game II from the same developer two times, and I'm still playing it. I love that game, it's full of strategy and tension. It's just fun. One of the best horror games out there, honestly. Scrutinized, however, it's not. Let's start from the beginning. What is Scrutinized? Scrutinized is a horror investigation game in which you play as Luna, a young detective who is trying to find the killer of her cousin, the Blueblood Killer. In order to do that she starts her own work as a "vigilante/detective": every night she receives reports of suspected crimes from unknown people and she tries to find clues and evidence to file or scrap that report. A classic detective game, am I right? Well, not exactly. You also have two guys, Dmitry and Tanner, a kidnapper and a killer, who are trying to find you and kidnap or kill you every night. So you also have to worry about them. That's pretty similar to what you do in WTTG and WTTG2, in which you look for keys on the deep web while trying to avoid killers and such. Pretty classic Reflect Studio game business. So then why did I like WTTG2 so much and Scrutinized so little? I feel like Scrutinized lost a lot of what made WTTG2 fun. In Welcome to the Game II you actually have more killers you have to worry about, but they all have their specific behaviour and counters and sound cues you can use to your advantage. You also have a long list of upgrades you can buy to help you on your way, but being them expensive at times, you also have to worry about how many items you want to buy, and what kind of items you think you need, and sometimes you also have to ask yourself if you really want to risk everything just to go down to your creepy alleyway and be killed by someone on the way just to get your just shipped new upgrade. In Scrutinized you only have two threats that can harm you. It should be easy, right? No, it's not. It's just... tedious. The sound cues are not clear enough. You can hear Tanner pretty easily after the last nerf, but hearing Dmitry is waaay more difficult. And when you hear something you are never sure who is coming for you. Should I check the cams to look for Tanner or should I get up and look for Dmitry around the house. 9/10 times when you actually hear the cues and understand who you need to worry about it's already too late. Most of the times, being killed feels like a completely random thing. The only thing you feel like you can actually do to defend yourself it's to check security cams and windows constantly. And when I say constantly I mean constantly. Open report. Check everything. Find ID Card. Check everything. Find phone IMEI. Check everything. Crack phone. Check everything. That's not fun at all. That's not scary at all. That's just tedious. And when you actually die it's more of an inconvenience than a scary thing. You don't feel scared, you just feel frustrated because you have to start from scratch. But what's your actual objective? Read the reports and find evidence to prove the guilt or innocence of the suspect checking police reports, their social media, their phone and their debit card movements. If they're innocent, you just need to scrap the report, if they're guilty, you need to add the best evidence you got on the report and fax it to the police. If you do that, you can get money to buy upgrades. You need to finish a minimum amount of reports before the night ends, and you can only make about 5 mistakes per run. Sounds fun, right? And I mean, it could be far worse. The reports tend to be interesting to read, they are obviously well written and designed. The real problem is the evidence system. 9/10 times everything is useless. Social media, debit card, police reports, Nothing. And even if they are useful, they just give you one evidence and you usually need waaay more. So you need to check the phone. I think I can safely say that that's the only useful app in the entire game. Checking everything else it's a waste of time almost every single time. Well, at least that's fun, right? No. It's not. Cracking the phones it's one of the most tedious things in the game. Hacking in WTTG and WTTG2 was fun. WTTG has an entire DLC based around hacks minigames. Hacking in Scrutinized it's not. You just have to move a cursor on a slider until you find the correct spot and then click "Crack". And if you can't do that before a specific amount of time you have to wait a ridiculously long cooldown before trying again. And being the phone the only place to look for evidence, that's frustrating. What can you do to help yourself? Buy upgrades. If your good at the game, you can actually farm a pretty decent amount of money. The problem is: that's definitely not easy. But it's fine, I get it, upgrades don't really cost that much in the end. The point is: they're useless. Forget about motion sensors, police scanners, better wifi connections, key cues, vpns. The upgrades in this game can only make looking for things automatic. Instead of opening the app and entering the suspect name every time you just click on a button and boom: social media profile! Police reports! Phone IMEI! Useful, right? Well, considering that the only actually useful place to look for evidence is the suspect's phone and the upgrades only allow you to instantly get the IMEI... Not that much. You still need to crack the phone. There is actually an upgrade to instantly crack a phone, but only once for upgrade. I think it's actually the only useful upgrade in the entire game. But still: you have no way to defend yourself from the killers, so... But let's imagine that you actually cracked the phone. Is it fun to look for evidence? The answer is: sometimes. Most of the times you just need to read like 10 texts and check 5 pictures, but sometimes (quite rarely) you actually find interesting phones and stories. It's just: it's so rare that I don't feel like it actually saves the game, you know? I understand that you have to actually file an enormous amount of reports each night, so they couldn't be too long to investigate, but... Isn't it a game design problem anyway? Couldn't there be like... Less more interesting reports instead of more less interesting ones? But again, picture this: you cracked the phone, found the picture of a dead body and a text in which is pretty obvious that the suspect is the killer. Neat: you just need to put the evidence on the report and fax iiiiiit... wait a minute, why does the game say you're wrong? You did everything right! Well, not for the game apparently. Because, again, at least 6/10 times the game gives you a failed report even if you're sure those evidence were perfect. Why? I have no clue. But that makes the detective part of this game even more tedious than the horror part. So what's left? You have a detective horror game where the detective work is broke and often boring and the horror part is just tedious and frustrating (and sometimes kinda bugged). Why should you play Scrutinized, then? Well, you shouldn't. I'm sorry. I waited for this game for weeks, I put it on my wishlist waaay before it's realease. I even considered downloading the client the developer was working on when Steam decided to remove the game from its catalogue, just to play it. But after 18+ hours on the record I can't recommend this game at all. Just buy and play Welcome to the Game II. That's actually a good game. I didn't enjoy this game at its current state. Wait for some updates or for a sale for this one.
