Volume 2: "U7 - Berlin" is the next release continuing the successful product series " World of Subways" introducing famous subway lines around the world to all subway enthusiasts. Route map

With a coverage of 31.8 km (19,8 miles) and 40 stations the U7 is not only the longest of all Berlin subway lines but also the line with the most stations and the longest journey time. • Changing of cabs – sometimes you will have to change the cabs during a mission. The train driver has to leave the cab, the train and then walk along the platform to the other end. He then gets into the train and cab again to prepare for departure.

  • A brandnew mission module with new mission

  • Flashlight for virtual walk in the tunnel

The U-7 line is a so called wide gauge line, carrying only wide gauge trains. The main difference to the narrow gauge line trains such as the U1, U2, U15, U3 and U4 line trains lies in the measurements of the carriages and the power supply. Gauge width though is the same on the narrow and wide gauge tracks (1435 millimeters)."World of Subways Vol.2: U7 - Berlin" features the wide gauge trains F 90 and the H 01.

F 90:

In 1974 the series F (F74) was being built and then further developed. The F90 was built from 1990 to 1991. The outline and constructual parts of the train are rather plain and simple compared to the modern H series. Nevertheless it shows the timeless elegance (if one can say so) of the 70´s and 80`s. These trains were built by ABB Henschel.

H 01:

The H 01 is one of the most modern vehicles of the Berlin Subway System. This wide gauge train has been built between 2000 and 2002. These trains were built by ABB Henschel, Adtranz, Bombardier. The H train is usually a set of 6 cars. This system allows a seamless transition between the cars of the trains resulting in 100 m long distance wher the passenger can walk through from end to end.

Highlights

Besides being the longest Berlin Subway route it has some more features which are worth mentioning.

The underground route is really entertaining and exiting as is has many turns and gradients on offer. Just before the Mehringdamm/Gneisenaustr. crossroads for example it does a very hard left turn in a radius of not even 100 m, one of the most difficult turns in the Berlin Subway system.

Impressive 2 level tunnel sections such as in the area of Mehringdamm and Jungfernheide, many chamber locks at the underground sections of the rivers and canals which close rapidly when water comes through, are another feature.

The stations architechture holds a lot of varieties, here´s a description of two of them:

First we´d like to mention the station Hermannplatz.. Being 7 m high, 132 m long and 22 m wide, its almost a cathedral. The first subway escalators were introduced here in 1926 with another highlight coming three years later. The year 1929 the department store Karstadt opened at Hermannplatz, at this time the most modern store in all of Europe. The Karstadt company paid part of the costs of building tis pompous station and in return got a direct entrance to its store. Even today still almost unique.

When designing "Zitadelle", inspiration came purely from the nearby Spandau citadel, one of the most important medieval fortresses of Europe and one of the many touristical attractions of Berlin and the district of Spandau.

NO PASSENGERS!!! I find AI passengers extremely important in public transport games. In this game AI doesn't even move or enter your train which makes me feel useless as a subway driver. I also didn't like that there is no tutorial. The game looks very realistic, but you get tired of it quickly

Ok, so I got the game on my Windows 8 PC, and it worked well! If you like trains, or basically the Berlin Subway, like me, you have to buy this! I wonder to myself on how I ever first found Berliner Underground. That actually came from a suggested video on YouTube. Autistic exploration is required for maximum enjoyment of this game, just like me! It's a fair price for a generally modern game. Not sure if it works on Mac... It's really tough to learn how to control the trains when you start for your first time, but you get used to it later. For that, I would recommend watching World Of Subways Vol 2 videos before your actual gameplay. Plus, about the trailer - In the beggining, it seems like a "scary" game, like Portal 2 (another game). But then, it's a tiny bit more interesting. When you play, and see the damaged or strange looking parts of the train tunnels, or any other interesting parts, that can really spike your senses for the game. The textures are so detailed and basically, every texture is correct! Every texture is exactly the real thing! Like, you tecnically reinvented Berliner U-Bahn! I also recommend that you could make a timetable for a route from Rathaus Spandau to Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, maybe. Except, there's no terminus area for it! The terminus is only for trains bound for Rathaus Spandau at Jakob-Kaiser. You know what else I want you to add to the game? A mode where you can ride the trains all around the subway line! To ALMOST sum it up, without this software, I'd be the most bored person in the world! Thanks for German people!!! C4 Engine, TML Studios, Aerosoft, THANKS SO MUCH!!!!! You have opened my imagination to the maximum! Speaking of that, I imagine that I realistically have an F90 and H01 trains (the two types of rolling stock trains in this game) right in my front and back yards of my house, AND I drive them around the yard! THAT'S how EPICALLY HUGE you've made my imagination grow! I could describe it much more, but I honestly don't even know how, REALLY!!! Anyway, it gets to be real fun and you'll never stop playing! I RECOMMEND THIS GAME, DEFINITLY!!!!!

I have World of Subways Vol.3 But I like this more. This really feels like a metro. I can't say the WoS Vol.3 doesn't. But I play this more than that one. So if you really wan't to get the veeling of a underground metro. This is such a good game.

This is a decent little railway simulation on the whole, but it pays to read the manual first! Unlike later World of Subways editions, this one provides no in-game help, and half the necessary keys aren't even configured! So the game can be a frustrating experience when you first start it. World of Subways 3 by contrast gives you a much better introduction with an in-game tutorial that takes you through the basics, and the new WOS 4 has a pretty thorough introductory tutorial as well. This game could have really used something like that. But if, like me, you're a first-time user, do take some time to read the manual, especially the sections on driving the trains and which keys do what, and configure the keys as well before starting in earnest. Moving on to the actual gameplay: you get to choose from two different trains: an older F90 and a newer H01. Of the two, I found the H01 much easier to drive. It's much more straightforward to regulate the maximum speed with the push of a button than fiddling with a lever as you have to do with the F90. The F90 just seems to require one or two extra steps in getting started and stopping as well. Of course, if you like more of a challenge, by all means pick the F90, but otherwise the H01 is more user-friendly for me. Graphics are great and performance is excellent. I have not experienced any major problems with this game in terms of lagging, crashes or what-have-you. One thing I find a little unfair is that the game penalises you for putting up the route monitor. Well I'm afraid I need that for the signals, which are very hard to see otherwise. And why provide that feature if you're going to penalise players for making use of it? Overall, this is a pretty cool game that is a decent simulation and performs well, but it doesn't cater very well to first-time users, unlike later WOS editions. But once you've configured the keys and got the hang of driving, there is plenty of fun to be had, for sure!

It simulates a Subway driver quite well. But there are some random crash to desktops when switching between views. I was expecting a little bit more from this simulator, maybe more detailed cabin or the ability to have an clickable cockpit. The description of every cabin item, light, button is not easy to read. The option to not have the simulation end every time a red signal has been passed.

This game would be a lot more fun if it wasn't so incredibly buggy. After messing around with the settings, I finally discovered that I have to manually change the video settings every time I play the game to get the information screens to display properly. Once I did that, I thought I could finally enjoy the game. But. . . no. If I play with AI, it is literally impossible to keep to a schedule. Straight out of the start, I hit red signal after red signal. It's just not fun if I can't even travel between two stations without having to stop and wait for a couple of minutes for the signals to change. The graphics are beautiful (I live in Berlin, and these are awesome representations of all of the stations), and I really wish that I could enjoy this game. But how can any professional developer of an entire series of related titles make something this buggy?

The controls were unset, and after i set them to my likeing the train refused to begin moving. I resorted to a fourms page and followed the instructions and still the train refused to move.

I have played this game for 11 hours. the only thing that frustrates me the most is that people are not dynamic. your train is always empty and the people on the platform do not move at all. for someone like me who likes to control the train "FOR" the people on-board and gets a sense of being watched and judged by the passengers, it becomes useless since my train has nobody on it at all. you constantly ask this question from yourself: who am I controling this train for?

It’s a 50/50 on this; It’s an okay game but far from perfect. Unfortunately I won’t be recommending it unless you really like Train games or can’t run Trainz or similar Train games for whatever reason. Thumbs up for; 1. Being a game that looks like it can be ran on low end systems. My system is in the middle range these days and still runs what I want and while I haven’t been able to try it on a low end system it looks like it’s the sort of game that doesn’t need a Beefy PC to run it. 2. Cheap game. I picked this up for $3 on sale recently and if you can’t afford todays train games but still need your basic train gaming kicks then this is probably for you. Thumbs down For; 1. Some controls are missing / left blank. For some reason the controls to set the train speed were unset in my game which I find odd for a game. Honestly ask yourself what's the last game you played where the main controls were unset? If World of Subways 2 was your answer then give yourself a pat on the back. The controls for the doors were unset as well, you’re telling me this is a game where we're meant to pick up passengers and you forgot or purposely didn't include controls to open doors? The controls to set the train destination sign were blank as well as the control to be able to get the mouse curser in game, It took me a while to figure that out and another control that was missing was the "click" action of the computer mouse. I think this is the only game I've played to date where vital controls were left blank. 2. There are a few routes in this game but only two types of trains, I'm not familiar with trains on the Berlin Subway but only two? Come on there has to be more than that? Also don’t expect to see Modifications for this game as it's a very obscure game. 3. Minor nitpick but resolution for this game was set at 120 something when I first launched the game while my main resolution on my PC is 1920x1080, My system is way above the system requirements for this game and other games don’t have trouble auto detecting my resolution 4. I know this isn’t a total “Simulator” but even with the function of the mouse pointer in game you can’t control anything on the dashboard. 5. I haven’t tried the “mission” part of the game and perhaps I should give it a chance before further reviewing but I have tried the other part of the game that feels like it’s meant to be a free-roam of some sort. After you select your time and what subway set you want to use, your chucked into the game without any instructions. This is where I became stuck when I first played the game. 6. The Developers virtually released this game and then "forgot about it" to say the least. In case you don't understand what I'm trying to say, I'm trying to point out that it was released and then no further known updates or patches were made. Guess I'll add point 6B here and state that there's no further content for this game, what's included In this game is what you'll be getting, guess a little plus about that is there's no overpriced DLC compared to what a lot of modern day train games now feature. Note: This review was updated in 2020 to fix a few small errors in my review.
