  Viticulture Essential Edition for Steam is a playable but flawed adaptation of the hit board game. Here is the rundown: Pros: - This IS Viticulture EE, completely automated and playable on your computer (unless it doesn't work as some folks have mentioned.) - Scratches that Viticulture itch, especially if you want to have a go against the AI. Cons: - Super inefficient, confusing user interface, because... - This is a port of a mobile game, and it couldn't be more obvious, but... - Even if it were not, the game does a very poor job at conveying what is or is not selectable on the screen and when you are or are not expected to be interacting with the game. - Agonizingly slow AI, and changing the game speed makes no difference in how long the computer takes to take its turn. Do the computer players have analysis paralysis? Easily my biggest gripe. - Crashed 4 times when trying to import my Steam profile before it finally did it. Still have no idea how to change my name from Local Player or pick a new avatar. - This honestly plays and works better on your phone or tablet. You know, because it was designed for that. - While the price is "ok" at $10 during the current short-lived sale, there is no way a person should be comfortable paying $15 for something this bastardized. The developers really have got to take many things back to the drawing board before asking a price like that for something like this. So, there you have it. This game is a VERY mixed bag. I think with a few patches this game has the potential to be a truer experience to the board game, but as it stands, it comes across as a rushed port of a mobile game with not an ounce of consideration given to the PC audience. You can tell this game was designed from the ground up to work on phones. The UI is a squished mess that COULD show far more information than it does, but instead, things like your player mat, building costs, etc are all on separate screens because a phone or tablet just cannot display that much information at once. This translates to PC as a convoluted mess of menu after menu to get information that should be regularly available at a glance but isn't. Also, it has to be said that when it comes to turning a board game into an app, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Either you do it like the folks who did Terraforming Mars did and really capture the feel and spirit of the game using a combo of music, intuitive design, sound effects, and a lot of polish, or you do it the way the folks did with Viticulture did, and a lot of the charm and nuance of the game is lost. Still though, this game, for me at least, is playable and allows me to get my Viticulture fix when I don't feel like going to my game table and setting up a solo game of the board game, or when something like game night with friends is off the table. That is about the nicest thing I can say about it. So, if this rendition is so flawed, who exactly is it for? I'm not sure apart from the stalwart Viticulture fanatic who can overlook this rendition's many, MANY flaws and really wants to play against AI, overlooking that the AI is terribly slow to make its move. If you're looking for a better experience, I would strongly recommend Viticulture for Tabletop Simulator over this if you're looking for a way to play the game online be it because of the pandemic, personal preference, or whatever reason - it's your best bet. I can only recommend this app game specifically for someone who is able to overlook a lot of flaws, is ok with the fact this is a straight up port of a phone game, and wants to play against AI.

  Edit: Digidiced has updated the UI considerably and it's much improved, so my review has changed to reflect that. Great game and solid implementation. The only real weakness for me is the tutorial, so you may be better off to read the rules before jumping in.

  The UI feels so old. What little animations it does have, feels like someone just said "Hey! We should animate something!" Even going into it having played the physical game, learning how to play this was really tedious. By the end of the game, I think we'd mostly figured it out, so I would say it is playable, but I would still not recommend it. It is certainly not worth $15.

  Does not display the worker placement spots, which is kind of critical for a worker placement game. I might even be able to play it blind IF the board wasn't redesigned to be ever so different from the table game for no real reason. Also unhelpful is that the board is in the aspect ratio of a tablet, with unhelpful menus attached to fill the dead area. The kickstarter portraits on the cards is even more obvious in HD, didn't really bother me on the table, but pretty distracting when Mamas and Papas are zoomed in HD/4K. Great game (though luck plays bigger element than most Euros), just stick to real version. Also, no single player with the automa. BIG missing feature, the Automa was actually a good challenge (as well as luck driven with all the decks of cards) and the cards themselves are LITERALLY a program that is already written out. For $15, seems like big omission and would take a good team of 3-4 a week or less to implement considering the if this, then that is spelled out on the box version cards already.

  This is definitely my favorite Steam game! Online game interface works well (take a lesson Catan devs). AIs are, for the most part, realistic players. All the games should be at this level. Great job Digidiced!!
