  This game caught my attention back when it was still in development, it felt like an interesting concept for a horror - to be based on old slavic fairy tails. So now that the game is out - I decided to give it a go. And after beating a good chunk of it I feel like I've seen enough to share my impressions. GAMEPLAY What was bothering me the most before the purchase is whether this game will end up being just another horror walking simulator, where you lazilly stroll through the entire thing, while getting a couple of predictable jumpscares. Luckily - thats not the case here, and there is an actual gameplay loop, which I found to be pretty solid. Basically you are stuck in an old haunted village house, with a bunch of monsters trying to get you, and you have to survive till a timer runs out (Basically like in FNAF). Each monster has his own special mechanic. In the start you are only facing a couple of them, and it might feel like not much of a challenge. But as you progress through the story - more and more of them are getting after you, making for some increasingly interesting challenges to overcome.What I especially liked is that monsters mechanics are connected - for example in the beggining you get a monster that is scared of candles, so you lit them up. But midgame they add another one that is actually attracted by light, so the strategy of keeping as much light everywhere as possible that I was using previously became absolete, and I had to adapt managing my light more carefuly. Also in between each surviving session you are being given some nice tutorial level. It tells you everything you need to know about a bew enemy while also giving away some lore details, and preventing the main game loop from feeling monotounos. All in all I found gameplay to be solid and fun GRAPHICS Visiually the game has its strength and weaknesses. Locations are few, but they are made very nicely, with lots of attention to details, they create a really nice and spooky atmosphere. Monsters are also pretty nice - creepy and imaginative, first jumpscares got me pretty good) Yeah some of them might look a bit goofy, once you manage to get a closer look, but I would still pick those over generic ghost\zombie\serial killer asset any time. The only minor visual downside for me were animations, they can be kinda clunky and awkward sometimes, but I guess thats to be expected from a little indie project. PERFORMANCE Technical performance is really damn good. Living in "beautiful" times when even AAA games are getting launched with 500 bugs, broken fps rate and 10gigs of first day patch that fixes 5% of its problems - this game runs absolutely perfectly on my pretty medium gaming laptop, and so far I haven't faced a single noticable bug. AUDIO Im not a big pro in audio stuff to be honest. To me it was perfectly servicable. From gameplay point of view sound does play a major role since it helps you to identify some threats. And with headphones - it worked perfectly for me. In terms of atmosphere its pretty fine as well, a bit of spooky ambience here and there, some intence music for chase scenes etc, it did the job. Overall I do recommend this game. It is a kinda rough gem - but a gem nonetheless. It has unique setting, fun and challenging gameplay, and a nice spooky atmosphere, and thats exactly what makes up for a nice horror experienca for me.

  I don't know what I was expecting actually. I think I expected exploration/jumpscares or something but it turned out to be so much better (no jumpscares yaaay!). I have not gotten past level 3 yet (on medium difficulty) but I will! Your objective is to survive for 1 hour (5 min real time) each time and if you make it, one "monster" is added to the next level, which increases the difficulty ( as far as I know).   This game has kind of a first few FNAF games vibe to it. You are stuck in a limited space with a bunch of creepy monsters, struggling to survive for a certain amount of time till dawn. Each night gets more and more challenging with adding new monsters to the mix. Although imho - gameplay here is more variable, you have a freedom of movement around the house you are stuck in, and each monster have to be dealt with in a unique way, which makes up for a nice and challenging gameplay loop.

  To my surprise I enjoyed this game a lot, it is exactly what a small indie horror game should be. Self-Delusion is based on slavic mythology what means you would see a lot of strange and interesting creatures there instead of typical ghosts, zombies etc. I really like the mood of this game, it does not try too hard to be creepy and scary, instead many monsters look kinda cute but they are designed very well. What I liked the most is that we got an actual gameplay there instead of just a walking simulator with some jumpscares that is common for horror games. Game is similar to Emily wants To Play - every level is you trying to survive an hour in a house with an increasing amount of enemies roaming around and trying to get you. This is where the game shines - the are like 10 different enemies with rather original mechanics (I mean no "it only moves when you don't see it" or other overused stuff). Game is not very challenging but late levels are pretty intense with someone trying to kill you non stop with barely enough time given to repel all threats. I also like how these standard levels are mixed with introductionary ones where you meet a new monster that is about to join the gang, some of these levels have a different gameplay like you being chased within a big maze and even if you just walk around and watch some creepy stuff it is still a decent break from surviving a yet another hour. Finally the dev keeps working on a game by adding some new bonus content and challenges. Honestly not all of them are good (FNAF challenge is just meh tbh) but it is still a good sign that the guy actually cares about his game. I dont have anything bad to say about Self-Delusion. Of course the visuals are rather simplistic and some animations are honestly pretty janky but I don't really care about it considering it is a small indie. Good job, dev. You made a solid game and I wish you good luck in the future.

  I picked out self delusion from the steam horror page not expecting much just a small game filled with cheap jump scares and what I got was a truly extraordinary game with one of the best story lines I've ever played through. What was meant to be a way to pass the afternoon turned out to be a really enjoyable experience that lasted for longer then you'd expect but never skipped a beat when it came to keeping me hooked. The visuals gave the game a retro feel with a square ratio and the the sound effects bring true terror at times when teamed with headphones for maximum effect, the story was great and now that I've finished the game I'll be diving back in for those alternative endings. My only issue is at times the notes can be hard to read due to the text size changing from note to note which can be an issue for a game with a lot hidden within the notes but honestly I only had trouble with one of them. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who wants to have fun and doesn't mind being terrified in the process.

  Self-Delusion is spooky. + Many different monsters that behave differently. + Atmosphere I don't know what will happen in the final of this game. More and more different monsters appear in the game with each level. It gets harder to survive but more interesting!
