Good: ● Art ● Voice Actors ● Setting/world ● Heroine is good but depending on the route/ending she becomes inconsistently bad Bad: ● Annoying NPC talk simulator for the first 10 hours ● Incest with at least 2 of the love interests (first cousins) ● Only 3 and a half actual love interests in the game ● Plot holes ● A character that literally acts as the exposition fairy ● Yet another confusing flow chart system ● People go into labor give birth in the span of 5 minutes in this game Man I thought this was supposed to be the better game of the series but somehow it ended up being worse for me.

I really strongly recommend Ashen Hawk to anyone who loves VNs with well-developed plots and characters. The first few chapters and maps are a bit of a slog as there are no choices and you will feel a little confused by the way things are set up differently than Black Butterfly. There's chapters, short stories, and "rumors"--the latter are required to trade in for notes at the end of the game, which you'll need for background about characters and events. The short stories will feel like a "slice of life", and I even got bored of these after awhile, but in retrospect they're necessary for building a rapport with the secondary characters so that when the twists and turns start happening in the plot you are sufficiently gobsmacked. In other words, it's a slow burn but things transpire very quickly after the "masquerade." Like Black Butterfly, Ashen Hawk has a lot of endings that range from bittersweet to terribly sad, but this makes the happy endings even more worth the extra effort. I'd suggest playing through Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly first since concepts like psychedelica and the kaleidoscope aren't fully explained in Ashen Hawk but are important to know to understand the this game. There are also subtle references to characters and endings from the first game that you won't pick up on if you haven't played it. I really loved the voice acting, music, and CGs for this game, but if I were to complain about anything it would be the fact that you start the game by providing two names for your character: a girl name and a boy name. I wish I knew that it would be the boy name I would have to use throughout the game, even when the character is dressed as a girl. There's also an issue I guess with the 100% completion achievement making it difficult to get even if you've fully completed the game.

I've tried to play through this game on like three separate occasions. It's just so dull. Black Butterfly is a 10/10 experience. This one just has nothing going for it.

I'm not the sort to review things, but with this game I felt absolutely compelled to The art is wonderful, the flow of the story is absolutely smooth, and most importantly, though it is an otome game, the "romance" part didn't feel like a separate thing and was integrated into the story very naturally The predecessor of Ashen Hawk, Black Butterfly was very wonderful too but at some points the romance felt very forced (following very specific routes would disconnect you from the main story somehow) but in Ashen Hawk you were left to make a choice at the very end without disrupting the flow of the story Jed has to be one of my favourite otoge protagonists ever as well, a very fresh change from the usual stereotype (I'm mostly just referring to Yui Komori and Beniyuri here) A strong girl who managed to stay in touch with her feminine side even though she lived as a man her whole life It also helped that Ashen Hawk cleared my confusion and doubts about my beloved character in Black Butterfly and I could see that a happy ending was possible for him after all And ultimately, Lugus The true ending is both so happy and sad at the same time that it's extremely overwhelming To everyone who has yet not finished the story, I'd say it's better to save the true ("heroine") ending for the last, it's completely worth it Though, after all these positive things I have to say, my true issue was how little choice we were given (sure it was to minimise disruption of the story, in my view at least), and how nearly all of the endings were tragic in a way or other All in all, it felt more like a general visual novel rather than an otome game and while most people do not wish for that, I found that to be quite charming and refreshing in a way I meant the review to be short but there is so much I appreciate about this game I genuinely hope that it'll eventually get the focus and exposure it deserves

This game takes place in the same universe as "Psychedelica of the black butterfly".You don't have to play the previous title, if you don't you won't get few references here and there. This time around there's no minigames, instead there's a map system. You will be able to visit certain locations of the town to listen to townspeople and see side stories. I liked the heroine in the ashen hawk, a lot more than the one in the black butterfly. She has more personality and backstory. However I prefered the love interests in the first game. In this one I did routes hoping to uncover more parts of the mystery, rather than caring about the guys. I didn't rly feel any genuine chemistry between MC and love interests. Nor was there any moving love story. (The side stories improved on this aspect a bit, a lot of interaction were fun to see) The mystery aspect of the story was pretty engaging, and it had plenty of plot twists. I had mixed feelings regarding the villain though. Nevertheless I would still include it in my most liked otome games. It was fun, once I started playing I couldn't put it down.

No directed plot spoilers ahead, but maybe slightly undirected ones. I was wondering, why is the sequel of the PBB have mixed reviews (according to Reddit and Vndb). And now, while just finishing the game, I'm still wondering and a bit confused - why? This game is absolutely incredible, and no one percent worse than its prequel! It's just a different and unique story that as well as the PBB will tear up your heart and left a bittersweet, but still satisfying a sense of completeness afterward. I must say, I'm pretty picky when it comes to the otoge and can't stand games with bad art and/or weak storyline, so here are some of my thoughts about it: ART - it's different from the PBB, but gosh! I love it so much! I think It's the strongest side of this game. Here are really a HUGE amount of CG and each of them just a gem. All the characters sprites also so beautiful and have a lot of angles for each. I was totally in love almost in all of them. Just too bad there are characters (actually, the certain someone, if you get me) with no romantic route. STORY - In general I like it, but there is still remained a few questions I have not found the answers for, and that feels like a small lack of consistency for me. Also, you may be a bit bored by reading the common route this long, but...Anyway, the plot managed to touch me to the core, since I cried a lot and then I smiled a lot, isn't that a measure of success? MUSIC - it's just good, I personally like the PBB BGM more. But among all of the pros, there are the biggest one, the warmest one, the touching one - easter eggs from the PBB. I won't say more, its something you better to go through on your own. And that's it. I really don't have an intention to write many words, I just want to thank the developers and publishers for giving an opportunity to obtain this treasure. And I highly recommend going through this story for everyone who interested in. And please excuse my English, I'm not very good at putting words in sentences, that's not my first language. p.s. forgot to mention voice acting, but the only thing I have to say - Namikawa Daisuke :р.

I was going crazy once I saw that they were releasing Ashen Hawk on steam, because I really liked the first one and was looking forward to reading this one. Someone told me in reddit that this one is nowhere near the first, and I'm really glad I didn't listen to them, as I found this one to be way better than Black Butterfly and it is now set in my top 3, right after Umineko and FSN. ★ Story You play as Eiar, a girl that has a red eye - the mark of the witch. Born into a town where the legend of the witch spun hatred and fear, she had to pretend to be a man ever since she was little and she goes by the name of Jed. (You can alter both names in the beginning of the playthrough if you wish). The common route of this story is quite long, but it settles a solid foundation for the story to be set upon; you will fall in love with this town and the characters. You will know it's story and you will be moved by it. It is heartwarming at times and can also be very sad, but it is incredibly well written, it gets you hooked and you just can't stop. I liked how the story went about some really interesting topics and also some things that I really related to what we have in reality.
The whole witch hunting thing, the fear of the unknown and the necessity of blaming one person for a series of disasters brough upon by the very same people that are throwing the ones. It's very critical of them, but it also talks about forgiving and breaking the cicle of hatred instead of feeding it.
Like the first game, it has that awesome flowchart to help you navigate through the new feature - the maps with side stories and talk episodes, and the routes. I felt this is a very refreshing taking on the universe of the novel, as you may get to know even smaller characters a little better and it adds so much to the whole narrative, it makes you feel as if you are part of this town and you've actually met this people. You get involved with some of their problems and stories. The notes was one of the best parts of it though, because it gives you even more insight on how the other characters feel and think, and it also gets into more detail of their stories. So, basically, this novel is not a simple otome, but a world in itself with lively characters and a solid plot with good narrative. Please, do read it. Take your time to explore and get to know this world and it's characters. ★ Characters The main cast is absolutely lovely. Eiar/Jed is one of the best protagonists of vns that I have ever read, she is strong, she makes things happen and just doesn't sit there and wait for the change to come. She is kind and brave and I absolutely liked her. The romanceable males are also really nice, and I really did like their stories and personalities. I found the characters to be very well built and intricate, from their sensitiveness to their issues and desires. I loved how this was explored on the novel. Seeing different parts of them, but not labeling them as good or evil - but as complex, lively characters. Lugus was by far my favorite, though. I must say I really liked his strenght, determination and how he is so strong willed to make things better, to make that town a better place, not to say about his love for his father and sister. God, what an amazing character. A lot of love for him ♥. Levi was the second I enjoyed the most, his good mood is what I live for, but for spoiler sake I will not say any more than that I loved his route. Lavan is also really cool and loving, very warmhearted.
As for the other two characters with routes here, I didn't dislike Hugh and found his routes to be really interesting, but he's not my kind of man. I did like how his character was built though, just wouldn't romance him. And as for Ashen Hawk, I don't feel like he is a romanceable character at all. Ever since the beggining of the novel and after I finished it my impression was that he was a fatherly figure to the protagonist, specially because of how he is related to her. But I also really did like his character and how he was built, also found some things that I related myself to in him.
. The side characters such as Francisca, Olgar and Tee were also very nice and I really liked them and how they were portraited and what they did througout their story. They were so intricate, complex and well built. ★ Art I don't have much to say about it other than that it is absolutely LOVELY. I have 200+ screenshots because every cg was gorgeous. I loved how there were so much angles and so much movement in certain scenes. It felt very very well done, I loved it. ★ Music Just as the first novel, the music is really nice and I loved the menu theme, this version of Scarborough Fair is lovely. Felt somewhat repetitive after some time, though. I guess that's the only downside for me. Well, I have to rate this a 9.2/10 or I wouldn't be fair to myself and to how good this is. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

If you loved Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly, then you will be OBSESSED with this otome!! You play as a young witch who has disguised herself as a boy since she was a child, concealing it even from her close friends and family. This is because the town is blinded by hatred and fear of witches. She is clever, helpful, secretive, and above all a well liked person in the town. She will soon discover she is not the only one in the town with secrets, and struggles with her identity slowly straying further from who she thought she was as her worst nightmare unfolds. It is a very thought-provoking story with every turn piquing my curiosity, and can be pretty unsettling as you're reminded that she lives in fear everyday. One last thing - I REALLY love stories where a girl has to disguise herself as a man though and somehow had no idea going in, and there's a lot of good content surrounding this trope if that's what you like!!
