  Have played for about 2 hours. Through the tutorial and well into the beginning of the main game. The graphics, music and scenery are lovely. I like the retro feel, and the attention to detail. The peaceful exploration mechanic with a story and mystery to solve is my kind of thing. You are given tasks to complete and a clear direction to go, so it feels open but not vague. The upgrades and collecting aspects are also nice to make it feel like you get your money's worth. The 'computer' voice over is quirky and I like it. The constant hunt for fuel adds a bit of a frantic edge to your exploration which some players may or may not like. My main issue is the controls. (EDIT- the developer has released a Settings toggle for the controls, making the following paragraph irrelevant.) You can't simply use the arrow keys or WASD keys to go left,right,up,down. You have to rotate your jets and press the boost button to navigate opposite to the direction your jets are facing. This is nuts. Instead of paying attention to the game, and what is around me, I am constantly thinking about the controls and staring at my little jets to figure out which direction I will go if I press boost (hard to enjoy the scenery while staring at my jets). It is something that desperately needs to be a Settings toggle. But alas no. When you leave your sub and swim around, it's a palpable relief to be able to just navigate normally. Perhaps it adds to the 'submarine' feel... but.... *head shake* I'm continuing to play because I've been following this game for sometime, and there are so many positives and a great feel. But, Tall Story... if you have any possible way to add a Setting for normal controls, for the love of Indie Games... please patch this. (EDIT - Done! The developer rocks!) Overall a nice gem, and appropriately priced. Try it out.

  I just played the tutorial and I already like this game. The artsyle and the climate is really cool. Apart from that I love the music. On the down side the controls are pretty weird, but maybe it'll be fixed. I like the game anyway. Even in its early state

  A very inspiring and fresh new game! I love to play and finding out new mechanics, far off from every day design and established "must be blizzard like" controls. Asking how to achive things and what might to be found underwater gives Abyss its charme. It is a challenging task to control the submarine and all its machinery. Most of the time I know, I was to hasty and it was my fault, when something goes wrong, although there are some issues with the controls. The underwater scenarios are cool and interesting and although used in many films and games it got never cliche, in my opinion. The graphics and style are lovely and contain a lot of details.

  So far I have played through the tutorial section and the explored the 1st main area. Project Abyss is a lovely game that captures the essence of underwater exploration and the related dangers. The art style and representation of the ocean creatures is charming and it feels nice when you come across something out of the blue. At first, the controls seem overwhelming, but this because of the range of submarine and diver tools that are on offer. Moving the submarine itself is done by rotating the propeller to the angle of thrust needed, which gives a very unique and realistic feel to operation. A lot of care is required to finely position the submarine around underwater obstacles. The submarine tools include things like the drill, front claw, underbelly (?) claw, harpoon gun and chain harpoon. I particularly like the claw underneath the sub that moves up/down with the mouse wheel and can pull objects back up. You can also exit the submarine and explore as the diver, allowing for other weapons and tools at your disposal. It allows for an extra dynamic of gameplay, in terms of exploring inside shipwrecks or repairing the submarine itself from outside. It feels natural to secure your submarine to a rock with the chain harpoon, then explore more closely as the diver itself. There is definitely a survival aspect to the gameplay, as the fuel on the submarine is limited, along with ammo sometimes running dry. Also the sea itself can be a rather dangerous place. Save when you can and don't waste resources. From the look of the skill trees and the achievements, there appears to be a lot more content on offer for me to discover. If deep sea exploration is your thing, then I'd definitely give this a go.

  I love the game's idea, and I love the graphics as well. But for the sake of god, I can't play it with these controls. I refunded it and I'll check if they patch in an option for normal controls sometime. It would help the game a lot.

  Has a mild learning curve when it comes to the controls, but it's always refreshing to have to learn something new instead of the "same old same old" problem we have with most games released now days. Very nice retro feel, love the zoom feature that allows me to look closer at the detail that you've put into the game! I really enjoy all the little things like the cliche red explosive barrel and crabs, mines, non-aggresive fish, a--hole fish, F-ING WHALES, and the lovely little claws you've added to the submarines! Skill trees are expansive, more than enough for something of this category. THERE ARE BUGS; BUT THIS GAME WAS MADE BY 3 PEOPLE (I think) So please, give credit were it is due, and please be patient, this game is amazing in its current state. I reccomend this purchase if you are looking for something new, like to explore, and enjoy the sense of accomplishment; because this game defintely brings that to the table! HAVE FUN DIVERS !!!

  The submarine control interface is poorly designed and makes the game nearly unplayable. Further, there is a glitch that causes you to warp through the walls when you are diving outside the submarine. When in Dive mode, C4 sometimes doesn't trigger and if you have to move diagonally in an inclosed space, you can get hung up on the terrain. Way too much trouble and not fun. Refund requested.

  It's not without its flaws but it is ultimately an enjoyable exploration game with light combat and RPG elements. Enjoy treasure hunting the deep dark trench and upgrading your sub systems.
