Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass Возможности

Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass is a Japanese-style RPG made by a guy from Texas. It was very much influenced by SNES-era jRPGs, particularly Earthbound, Final Fantasy 5, and the Breath of Fire series, among others. It was also heavily influenced by Yume Nikki.

The game takes place in the dream of an eight-year-old boy. When an alien entity appears and threatens his family and the stability of the dream world itself, Jimmy sets out on an adventure to save his family and eradicate the threat of the Pulsating Mass. Along the way, Jimmy will have to work with his family, confront his own shortcomings, and brave the creeping nightmares of his subconscious.

Features:

-Full-length Japanese-style RPG.

-Classic turn-based combat with some modern sensibilities.

-A big emphasis on exploration.

-As an empathetic kid, Jimmy gains the ability to imagine himself as several of the monsters he meets, allowing him to interact with the world in new ways.

-These different transformations can also be leveled up, granting Jimmy higher stats and new abilities.

-A story for adults delivered from the perspective of a child.

-Jokes.

-Unspeakable horrors.

Note: for some versions of Mac, the game may not be able to save if you've placed the game in the root "/Applications" folder. Instead, put it somewhere in your home folder, such as "~/Documents."

Hello friends, Today i will write about the game JIMMY AND THE PULSATING MASS. This is a rpg maker game, but that does not make it a bad game. The fights in it are similiar to eartbound games. The story is about jimmy, but it is complex too. Jimmy has the power to transform using his imagination. Each form has it's own abilities and skills to use on the overworld map and in battles. I do not want to ruin the storyline, but i will say this, it is much more than appears to be at the beginning. Anyways, here is my pro/con list: PROS: - A game very similiar to earthbound, with different places and strange battles against creatures. - A deep story about adult things. - Partial controller support. - Very good music. - Lots of worlds to explore with secrets. - Post game things to do. CONS: - The controller i used was a F310 logitech. I could never figure out how to map the buttons correctly on it. There is even mapping hardware embedded in the game if you push F1. - Some people may not like it is a rpg maker game, but i found the game very enjoyable. - This is not a child's game. There are some dark undertones in the story. I recommend this game for it's earthbound like gameplay and deep storyline. There is also great music and lots of places to explore.

There is nothing I can say about Jimmy that is at once an encapsulation of my feelings, an adequate summary of what makes it great, and spoiler-free. So, in lieu of a ranting, heartfelt essay, which I can and likely will write somewhere else, I'll say this: Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass is a game about life, loss, and the horror of growing up. If you aren't hooked at the beginning, wait until you come back from getting honey to make a real judgement. Please please *please* give this game a shot. It's a magical, once in a lifetime experience.

This is easily the most underrated game ever created. It's probably a good idea to play EarthBound and/or MOTHER 3 beforehand to get a feel for the genre, but it's a truly incredible creation that deserves more people's attention.

Its hard to explain in any amount of words why this game means so much to me. It's one of three games I've ever played thats made me full on cry at some point. If I say too much I'll spoil stuff but its, man. The game is good.

Played it 3 times. Loved it ALL. Game was everything I wanted it to be. For the folks who say I cry over video games because I’m too stoned? I haven’t smoked weed in a week. Stop blaming the herb. I’m just a soft boy. Anyway... Goodbye, Jimmy. We’ll say hello again.

    Jimmy did his best.

Jimmy imagines himself playing an RPG. He's played a lot of these with Uncle Lars, but this one's a bit different. He is reminded of another game from the eighties and its sequel, which came out in 2006. The sprites aren't perfect, and he hopes the developer's next game will have some artists on the team, but this game was practically a solo project, so Jimmy is forgiving of these elements. Jimmy gets mad a number of times while playing the game. He knows RPGMaker is kind of a cruddy engine and it's difficult to work with, but he finds himself turning red with frustration with all the random encounters. He feels like he takes ten steps and is thrust into another encounter. Jimmy wishes he had more time to appreciate the game's atmosphere, especially in some of the more frightening areas, but being thrown into battles so much would often detract from his sense of wonder and fear, and just made him annoyed. Jimmy goes to one of the game's stores and finds that his wallet has been emptied yet again in order to buy four Choco-Colas. He can't even put money into the bank until he reaches the endgame because of how much money he needs to spend on consumables. Jimmy momentarily admires the developer's attempt to keep healing items relevant throughout the game, but he wishes his options weren't so limited. He also wishes there were group heal items, but Jimmy realizes this is more of a nitpick. Jimmy suddenly thinks he's being too hard on the game. He knows how easy it is to bash on something rather than give it compliments. A knot forms in his gut. He's probably making the developer upset by being so negative. The developer probably isn't that hurt in reality, but Jimmy still feels wrong. Jimmy resolves to talk about why he ended up loving the game so much even with these issues. Jimmy relates a lot to the main character, who is coincidentally also named Jimmy. He had a number of personal experiences, such as his father's death at the hands of brain cancer and his own issues with being seen as the "gifted child" that he could relate with very strongly. Jimmy enjoyed the game's writing. It was witty and fun when necessary but ruthlessly dark when the situation called for it. He loved the sequences where Jimmy gained new transformations, and he loved any moment that intersected with the "real world," such as the Abandoned Cineplex, Rainbow Garden, etc. Jimmy finds himself on the edge of his seat when playing through the game's "Nightmare Zones". He's almost disappointed how many of these areas were optional, but he loves how each one is presented in its own unique manner with unique music that often fits the vibe of the area perfectly. He has a hard time choosing favorites, but if he must pick the strongest ones, he would go with Jonathan Bear's Playtime Forest for his favorite mandatory area, and Mr. Cat's Dungeon for his favorite optional area. Jimmy is shocked at how candid and realistic certain interactions are in the game, with Cordelia's side quest being particularly strong. There are moments that leave him speechless. Jimmy thinks about the combat again. He still finds the random encounter rate to be far too high, but he enjoys how moldable the protagonist is in terms of kit, and he ends up using Grumble Bear quite a bit in order to deal high damage quickly. He's pleased to see he can instantly kill certain bosses with this strategy, but he's also pleased during the moments of the game where his skills are truly put to the test with certain boss fights. He died a lot to him, but the final battle against Buck was incredibly satisfying for him to defeat. Jimmy yawns. He's been playing for over thirty hours. His dad would usually complain about how long he's spending playing games, especially when it's so late. Jimmy hasn't been going to school recently, and his dad is more forgiving than usual. His Uncle Lars cracks open the door and asks if he can join, too. Lars avoids mentioning the elephant in the room. Jimmy decides to ignore it, too. For now, he'd rather spend time with his uncle.

    POOF!

Jimmy can now turn into a Twenty-Something Gamer! As a Twenty-Something Gamer, Jimmy can utilize the power of putting in way too much effort into writing reviews for video games! He can also aspire to make games of his own, provided he gets over how prone to distraction he is.

Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, a game in the works for years. I have been tuned into it (off and on) from the very start. Years ago I promised to give the game a beta playthrough when it was finished. I must admit: I was very hesitant to deliver on that promise. Life was busy, things were crazy, plus, I really didn't feel like dragging my feet through an RPG. It took me several days to even download it, and another several days to actually open it. Once I opened it, though...I was hooked. I could not put it down. I was a teenager again -- playing video games until 2 AM and pouring the majority of my spare time into it. My attention was so absorbed into this game that the worries of life actually became easier to deal with. They didn't matter anymore. What mattered was getting them out of the way so I could advance in Jimmy. I experienced the consuming euphoria that a great game brings to me, the same euphoric experience I feel when I find new amazing music. It made me remember why video games are the best form of art -- better than mere music since it contains music within -- it's something greater. My wife appropriately made fun of me for reverting into a manchild and I didn't care one bit. It was entirely worth it. For starters, it DOES play like a classic turn-based RPG, but it's definitely up there for the "Most Engaging RPG" contest. Enemies are whimsical, humorous, sometimes creepy, sometimes cute, sometimes downright disgusting. There's plenty of variety between the very appropriate enemy gimmicks (Yes Man is my favorite) and choreography, and it captures the feeling of a new adventure to learn and explore very well with each area. Each of your characters has a specific role they play with Jimmy being an ace that can fill whatever role is needed. Later on, towards the end of the game, you open access to accessories and weapons that modify your skills in various ways. I can't say it's the best or most complex skill system (example: The Last Remnant requires an entire wiki to understand anything that's going on) but its simplicity is very easily digestible and adds to the feel and polish of the game. It's enough -- enough to keep things engaging, experimental, and interesting while not overwhelming the player. A big aspect of the game is Jimmy's imagination transformations. It's similar to FF series class changing except, thankfully, minus the plethora of useless classes and skills. Again, each transformation fills a particular role and the ability to mix and match their skills opens up many possibilities. Additionally, outside of battle each of the transformations have a field skill. It ranges from shaking people or (I'm going to include several spoilers in this paragraph) mounds of trashed motorcycles, to oozing through grates and prison cell bars, to jumping over gaps, to slamming your bear-butt down on cracked ice to discover an optional secret area, and more. This adds a metroidvania aspect to the game. Everyone loves secrets, and Jimmy is full of them! Some people may find it to be a bit challenging for a turn-based RPG. I personally enjoy getting beat down in games, and if an RPG doesn't game over me at least once I don't think it's worth playing. Jimmy game overed me several times, to my delight. Boss battles are difficult but not unfair...until end-game. Jimmy does offer its own ruby and emerald weapon, though not nearly as much grinding (thankfully) is necessary to win. I'm going to be frank about video game plotlines: they suck. Typically no real philosophical thought or question is posited, and if it IS there it's either shallow, elementary, or something a little too psychedelically off the wall that makes me pity the writer's scattered state of mind. If I walk away from a movie and I'm still thinking about it and what it meant for weeks to come, I would consider that good writing. I don't want to spoil anything, but Jimmy made me think plenty. The timing is a little uncanny since I have a child on the way, but regardless the story is solid. We desperately need better stories in video games! All in all, this is one of the best games I've played in the past several years. I was as pleasantly surprised with Jimmy as I was with Divinity: Original Sin. Easily worth $15. Easily worth double that. I think my only gripe is that I wish the game was a little longer. I suppose it's a good gripe to have.
