  Really awesome game, but just a heads up: if you have even the slightest amount of photosensitivity, this will hurt. I have very mild sensitivity, so I figured I would be fine. I played the game for 30 minutes, and my head was splitting and I was nauseous. I was really upset because the GAME IS SO GOOD. I unfortunately had to get a refund just because I couldn't continue because it hurt too much. This isn't even a negative thing: more just a warning to people in case they don't think about certain things. So just be careful. But again, it's an amazing game and story. So sad I couldn't play it.

  I was initially told that this game, being an indie game, was incredibly short. I wasn't expecting to pour nearly thirty hours into it, trying to find as many secrets as I can. The sheer amount of detail that is hidden away for the player to discover is astonishing. If you're into cryptic, but deep lore (comparable to Hollow Knight,) this game certainly has a lot of that. The combat is challenging, though I was able to get the hang of it even without a controller, which this game recommends you use. The visuals are stunning, the soundtrack is awesome, and I enjoyed every boss I fought. Would definitely recommend this to my friends.

  I wish I liked this game more than I do, but it's just not fun for me. So far, enemies either come one or two at a time or as a swarm in a locked room, and there's no element of challenge to either. Especially with the swarms, there's no sense of tactical choice for the player; you just keep trying over and over and hope you get a lucky enemy flow where you don't die. Then there are other non-combat parts of the game, where you need slick movement and timing to get to your target. If you fail, no problem, you respawn - except sometimes you respawn in a different spot, and sometimes you just teleport to a respawn point without actually dying, so now your progress is saved with fewer resources and the objective still unaccomplished. You can tell a lot of work was put into the visual side of things, but the mechanics keep the game from actually being fun to play. And a game I don't enjoy playing is a game I'm not going to play. I have no desire to continue, and I wouldn't recommend Hyper Light Drifter to others, either.

  Hyper Light Drifter is solid. It does so much good in its visual and gameplay elements. The world you explore is beautifully designed. The gorgeous pixel art makes the world pop in a unique way that makes this game’s visual style one of a kind. It has this vibe of “Modernized Retro” it's a nod to SNES and Genesis graphics without holding itself back. The color palate is vibrant and makes every area feel distinct. The game just looks wonderful. It's the part that sticks out the most to me. The gameplay is like souls combat + zelda world exploration. But the games don't copy the mechanics and designs from games it takes inspiration from. It turns the ideas into something wholly unique. The combat hits similar beats to Dark Souls but there’s a lot to make it feel different. I have 1 big complaint however. 1. The story isn’t very compelling. In fact there isn’t really a story to speak of. Like I could summarize the story in a sentence. On a surface level there’s nothing there. It kinda feels like the story from Hollow Knight but without any of the plot elements. Just the background lore pushed to the forefront. There’s no dialog, Just pictures and cutscenes showing you stuff that’s occurring. When the credits rolled I was just confused on what the point of my journey was. Not to say that there’s nothing pulling and compelling you to explore each area. But the story just… wasn’t there. I’m sure that it was an intentional decision and it might be something you enjoy. But I just didn’t understand what I was experiencing. But the gameplay and visuals carried it for me. I highly recommend checking this one out. It looks and plays fantastic. Worth checking out if you like engaging combat and exploring beautiful environments. 4/5 A short and sweet adventure

  I played for an hour and a half and I liked the game but it was constantly stuttering and I found no way to fix it :(

  Gorgeous visuals and soundtrack, decent gameplay, and collectibles are very fun to get.

  Game is truly deep and with "heart" I liked style, story, gameplay and classic feel of it. It's must play and living classic. I played with anticipation of each session. After hard work day this game presents beautifully crafted world which I wanted to re-visit. 5/5
