Episode 1 is kinda lame, but the mystery is intriguing. Episode 2 is much better, now with decent action scenes. Episode 3 is awesome. Waiting for Episode 4 now.

    Ok so, I 100% recommend buying this. The plot is really interesting (for me atleast) and the characters are unique as well, and the theme of it too! I am a SUCKER for mystery themed visual novels (I think this is a mystery genre?) or anything similiar like Prison Boys, it's also a good game! Anyways, there are a some things I dislike about this game, well mainly because of one episode. If you have no idea what i'm talking about, i'm talking about the 4th episode. So i'll be going on a bit of a rant here. (Also spoilers for the 4th episode!!) Now, if you guys somehow don't know about the shipping drama then i'll explain it to you. You know Yakonemo right? The ship name of Yakov x Nemo, apparently Nozori is banning people that ship them which I have no idea why. The 4th episode made Yakov an a$$h0l3, well kind of, let me explain. Before I explain I don't have much of an understanding about Yakov's characters so the things I dislike might just make sense for Yakov. Personally I don't mind half(?) of the interactions with Yakov, they seem to make complete sense considering his character, although I'd prefered if it could've been toned down a bit (maybe he can be a bit more of an a$$ but not so much, maybe just a bit more than the previous 3 episodes). The library scene is ok, I think that make sense for him, I also think that the way he acts in the last part of the game in the route where Nemo got turned into a 'Loyal doll' kinda make sense. I understand that maybe he wants to take revenge on Oliver by doing the same thing he did on him buttttt....It could've been a bit toned down. Now the one scene I quite dislike, the torture room scene. Now, I don't mind Yakov being an a$$ to Nemo, that make sense for his character but to the others? Maybe, but what they did seemed a bit too much for me, he was a complete jerk to them in that scene I feel like it would've been better if Nozori tone it down as well, they can keep Yakov being an absolute jerk to Nemo but to the others? No, atleast tone it down a notch or so. I've also heard that Nozori changed the 4th episode script to make Yakov an a$$ because of Yakonemo. If they really did that then i'd be very pissed. If they really changed the script because of a simple SHIP....then why? You should've expected people to ship them, they are the only two attractive male characters (sorry Hans, Wolfgang and Oliver...Still love ya guys!) so people would ship them and not to mention the enemies to lovers trope, one of the most popular trope. Besides that the 4th episode is really good! Answered some questions I had. Now for the other problem, the Doris x Nemo. Ok first of all before ya'll attack me I have NOTHING againts this ship, if you like this ship then that is complete fine! It's definitely a cute ship, but what I don't like is that Nozori is implying that Nemo likes Doris. I do not mind if Doris has a crush on Nemo, that is completely acceptable. But Nemo implying that he has a crush on Doris? No, just please don't. Nozori said that there will be absolutely NO romance in the game and yet....they are IMPLYING that Nemo has a CRUSH on Doris. I don't care if Doris or Helga or Ruf or one of the male characters (if they dare) has a crush on Nemo, but Nemo having a crush on ANY of them? No, Nozori said that there will be NO ROMANCE and yet Nozori implied Doris x Nemo. Helga even said "Stop it LOVEBIRDS" or something along the lines in the 'Rebellion' route, and I don't think she said that in a joking manner. I may view this wrong but they ACT like they LIKE each other ROMANTICALLY. I don't mind if it was platonic love but romantic? I would be quite mad if this goes on. Nozori promised us there will be no romance and here they are, going back on their words. I truly hope that i'm just viewing their relationship wrong. Maybe the blushing doesn't mean anything, I really hope that's the case. Anywayssss, that's all for my rant! Sorry for the long writing, I really love this game and I'd hate to see it become something like....that..the first 3 episodes were AMAZING, but the 4th episdoe had it's bad parts. Nozori if you're reading this, I hope you'll be able to make the 2nd half much better than the 1st half and I also hope you stop banning Yakonemo shippers. If you REALLY wanted to make Doris x Nemo canon then actually make it canon? You guys have the FULL AUTHORITY to do it and yet you didn't. Please don't ruin this game because of one ship you dislike, it's really not worth it. I also hope this comment won't get ban (I have no idea whether it can be banned or not). That's all from me, I'm looking foward to the 2nd half! P.s I apologize for saying negative things for half of the review. If you're doubting whether to buy the 4th episode or not, I say go for it! Despite all that it's still a really interesting episode! Not on par as the first 3 but still good nonetheless! Can you believe it was made by two people? Neither can I! I was absolutely shocked when I found out! Anyways, you should totally buy it! Definitely worth the money. :>

    (as of episode 3; english version) (check my reviews of subsequent episodes on their respective story pages!) pros: +intriguing plot and mystery! i really like how we switch perspectives between the two sides and i'm curious to find out more about nemo +fun ragtag cast of characters with their own different quirks and personalities (favourite?? what's that? if i had to choose, then maybe elias? no, wait, doris. or wolfgang. ...but HELGA. and yakov?????? i don't knOW--) +lots and lots of art assets that make scenes feel that much more dynamic! +the selection of choices -> different branching scenes gets a thumbs up from me. some have more impact than others, but it's nice to see choices that change a whole scene instead of just one line of dialogue (and i feel like a few of them will also change things in future episodes?? but that might just be my wishful thinking) cons: -episodic format means having to wait for new content between cliffhangers (*squints eyes at oldrik*) either/ors: =depending on how much typos/awkward phrasings bug you, this might be a problem. it's not riddled with obvious errors (like the script was simply run through google translate or something) but there are parts that might feel unnatural, though sensical, to native speakers. i didn't think it was a problem bc it's still easy to understand what it means, but some nuances were probably lost in translation =the point and click aspect might be tedious to some bc it can be a bit of back and forth, but you can automate it in future runs if you just want to read the story! (i personally like it since it lets me comb through every little thing, and there are easter eggs/additional dialogue that you might miss if you skip it over) all in all, i've been excited for the release since i played the demo and i wasn't disappointed! if the episodic format bugs you then i'd suggest waiting until all five episodes are out before buying the full game, but there's enough mystery and intrigue in the first two to keep you warm with theories and speculations until the next one comes out!

    Short version: Currently there are 2 episodes released and I find it to be an engaging story so far. The art-style is really nice and I find what I've seen of the story and it's mysteries so far to be intriguing. The characters are colorful and manages to feel like very distinctive individuals to me. Looking forward to see where the story is heading. Definitely worth a read if one have some free-time to spare! Longer thoughts: Regarding the story: Nemo's (he main-character) situation is rather complicated since he has amnesia in a world that is the middle of a war, meaning that he has no real way of knowing false from true or friend from foe. At the same time his allies can obviously not say for sure if he is genuine or a spy faking said amnesia, leaving some characters more skeptic and hostile towards him than others. Nemo himself even can question his own potential trustworthiness at times, given his current circumstances. It's again a nice nuance. Nemo having theoretical knowledge and muscle-memory but no memory regarding himself of the state of the world also puts him in a rather stressful position, which leads him to not always making best/smartest of decisions (though some of those decisions are up to player choice). But at the same time he's making due with what little information he does have at hand and is trying as well as he can to adapt to the situations he finds himself in. Since the player, much like Nemo, are a stranger to the world it means that there are quite a lot of mysteries in the story, even a literal one regarding a past murder that Nemo is tasked to help with finding out clues about. Story-wise the story also hits or hints at some rather interesting points in regards to showing that both sides of the conflicts are very human in the sense that they genuinely believe themselves to be the "good guys" compared to the enemy-factions, which on both sides seem vilified through some rather heavy propaganda. I like that kind of nuance in a story with this kind of war-conflict. Regarding the game-play: Aside from the classic visual-novel styled choices of dialogue that comes around during the story, the game also have point-and-click elements to it. I would say most of the point-and click aspects comes in the second episode though. You do look around a bit in the first episode/the demo as well, but the second episode is where you have to do things like figuring out a code or looking around the rooms after specific items to proceed. If you've played old-school point-and-click it's probably not something that would cause much trouble, though I can see it get frustrating if you get yourself stuck because you missed clicking on the right thing. Though the game do have a button that specifically shows you all the click-able points in the current room you are in, so if you look around enough you should be able to figure things out. I would say that it has more visual-novel elements than it's point-and-clicks so far, but I personally find it a good balance when combined with the choice-mechanic of the more story-heavy parts of the game. It's also possible to save right before making a choice, which is nice for those that likes to go back and read what events would transpire from different choices. There's also an option to speed through dialogue that you have already read, which saves times if you want to go through the game again while making a different string of choices. Regarding translation: The released game has definitley improved from the original demo version. There are still some instances where some things can sound a bit odd in the english translation, and there could potentially be some neuance lost because of that, but overall I don't recall it ever being to the point where it becomes incomprihenceable. I think this is one of those things that gets judged by a person-to-person bases. If you're really picky with grammar and such, there might be moments that might bug you, but in general I personally think that the text flows well. Last words: I'm one of those that read the demo a while back and was happily waiting for the new episode to get released, and after the second one I'm now excitedly waiting for the third to see where the story and it's characters goes to next!

    Oh, this game is a special one, it is at the same time very interesting and infuriating. It gives the impression that it was written to have multiple layers of meaning, this is both its mean strong suit and the origin of many of its problems. Here's a list of the pros and cons to show you what I mean. Pros: -Characters and characterization: every single main character in this game is memorable. They have their own mannerisms and way of speaking that is captured relatively well even in the English translation. You get more interesting information about the characters in the first 20 minutes you know them than in some complete games. Furthermore, given how much information the game gives you, it’s surprising that it mostly manages to show instead of tell. -Very mature view of storytelling and worldbuilding: there doesn’t seem to be a single right answer in this world and it’s admirable to make a game which acknowledges the differences in worldview without presenting one as better than the other, it just shows it doesn’t judge. The game leaves the judging all up to you. -Multiple layers: The game is hiding the core issues I think it’s addressing in plain sight: a book lying around in the library, some particular character traits and motivations corresponding with critiques of the ideology their side seems to follow. I won’t tell more because it gives you this feeling of hidden knowledge if you connect the dots on your own, even more so because I don’t think everyone will consciously pick them up on their first playthrough. These pros are significant , what this game does right it really does right. While the cons I’ll discuss are less important to the game as a whole, there are way more of them. Don’t think the cons section is longer because the game is bad, it really isn’t. Cons: -Clunky translation into English: It's not that bad that it hinders the experience but enough to remind you every 10 minutes that it is in fact a translation. For people who have played eastern European games before, you know what to expect. -Mishmash of historical settings: This game doesn’t know what era it’s going for and it severely limits your ability to tell bad writing from intentional vagueness. For example: They have 1940/1950’s level radio and construction technology but Meiji restoration era uniforms and weapons (1860’s). So you can’t predict if something the game told you is feasible. Yes, it does enhance the feeling of confusion the game wants you to feel but I don’t think this is a good way to do it. It only works if players are willing to believe you did it on purpose. Personally, I don’t feel like giving the writers the benefit of the doubt because of the next point. -Serious problems with realism (I know but hear me out on this one): I'm a bit of a military nut myself and thing after thing in this game just pisses me off. I’ll give you two for context. 1, every fight ends up in close quarters. Why? You have guns, use them for Christ’s sake. 2, at one-point Nemo has to escort someone to the radio post on the other side of the base to get a call for help through. Why? What idiot officer doesn’t keep at least one person (in a 130+ person camp) near the radio? They even told us that the attacks were nowhere near the post. What was keeping the other soldiers from radioing for help? I can think of at least a dozen similar issues with the story. -The character’s personalities (subjective): While they are very memorable it feels kind of like the people are so far removed from reality that they lose all credibility. There is a good argument to be made that this is intentional (I have a strong feeling it's done with a good artistic reason), but it still makes it hard to immerse yourself in the story. Which, I think, is the main advantage a game has over let's say, a book. -The story is too ambitious for the drawing budget: there are a lot of parts in this game that could’ve really benefitted from more and more detailed drawings. Take the aforementioned surprise attack, on only two panels do you see an enemy soldier. You have the option to shoot a guy in the head while he’s holding a hostage at gunpoint, but there are no panels to show the aftermath of this. Not the guy falling dead, not the hostage getting free, nothing. Later you dodge an enemy attack which causes the missing blade to stab his ally in the stomach, all the while you (the player) are staring at the same panel showing a hole in a concrete perimeter wall. What makes it worse it that at the same time your character is trying to figure out why he doesn’t feel as panicked as he thinks he should be. I can’t relate, because I have seen almost nothing from the battle to give a damn about. Why can’t I see it? I want to see it. TL;DR Please play the demo if you are interested because this game can either be very engaging or irritating depending on the person you are. I don’t think you will be able to tell if you like it from only reading reviews. Really good idea, decent execution.

    Guilty Parade easily became one of my favorite visual novel games I've ever played so far. I immediately 100% the game (as of episode 2) in terms of achievements since I couldn't stop playing it (to the point that I played the current episodes twice now lol). I'm so glad that I accidentally stumbled on this game's demo on gamejolt or itch.io and quickly followed the developers for future updates. Quick review: As of the release of episode 2 (+ episode 1, the demo), Guilty Parade has a lot of potential to become an outstanding and memorable mystery visual novel game. Episode 2 greatly exceeded my expectations, and I'm excited to play the next episodes. The characters are all unique and lovable in their own ways and I love seeing their interactions with one another and/or with Nemo or Lien. I'd watch them discuss something meaningless and I would still enjoy it. (I love all of the characters, but my personal favorite is definitely Yakov, top tier best boy. His chaotic personality and inability to trust others just makes me want to befriend him and gain his trust even more lol. {Spoiler near the end of episode 2}
And when he started to trust Nemo a bit more if you choose to tell him the truth about Nemo's reason on investigating the murder case, he looked genuine and sincere T-T or maybe it's just me feeling soft for him
). The world of Guilty Parade has so many secrets and mysteries in which you and Nemo need to discover and find out yourself. But, what I'm more curious about is Nemo's identity and which side he'll choose after finding out about his past. But that's your decision, right? After all, it's your future. As for a longer review: Positives:

The art for this visual novel caught my attention immediately. The character designs, CGs and the background art are clean and pleasant to look at. I was astonished at the quality of the art in the demo version, so I made sure to keep following this game. I love how different and distinct the characters' poses were and how it expressed the characters' personality and behavior (personal favorite is Yakov's hand-on-hip pose lolol).
The cast of characters (both Nemo's and Lien's sides) are unique and colorful, but also humane. Though their personalities may feel exaggerated or cartoon-like to fit a visual novel atmosphere, the characters feel realistic, with their own strengths and weaknesses as well as personal struggles due to the war and/or their past
(you learn a bit more about the soldiers' lives before the war and hints about their problems in episode 2. Most likely we'll be able to understand all of the soldiers' past in the next episodes).

The game has an intriguing story and world with a lot of secrets and mysteries to discover and potentially solve. Having the main character, Nemo, have amnesia was a pretty clever way for the player to learn about the world and the people living in it together with Nemo.
Decisions chosen by the player and performed by Nemo or Lien can greatly influence the story's flow and outcomes, and may affect the cast's views of Nemo/Lien. Trust and truth and lies seem to be important in this story, as it takes place during a war between two sides and you're not exactly sure if the people around you are a friend or an enemy. Therefore, depending on your choices, the characters' trust on the main character may become stronger or weaker.
(Despite giving me a fair amount of anxiety whenever the screen becomes like an old film and the choices appear, I like how your choices really change the scenario and even be referenced on a later scene. Like when Elias thanked Nemo for shooting the enemy who took Elias hostage in episode 1.)

(Minor) Negatives: Adding some of my concerns to somewhat balance my review, however, they're fairly minor.

Some minor misspellings and missing grammar.
(English translation) Dialogue and phrasing of sentences may sound unnatural for English speakers. However, it doesn't affect the flow of the dialogue and narrative much and depends on the player. English being my second fluent language, personally, I didn't mind it and simply was able to rephrase some phrases to better fit how I speak (since I read the text aloud and created voices for the characters lul). The game was translated to English after all (greatly appreciated T-T).
Overall, Guilty Parade is in a special place in my heart (and in my Steam library). I'm excited for the future and what Nozori Games, Orizori and Noasaki, have in stock for the next episodes! Will continue to support and follow the game and the developers!

    Hard to judge it with just 2 episodes out, but the mix of interesting characters and deepening mystery really give me hope that it will turn into something extraordinary. Looking forward to future episodes!
