  Simple? Yes. Touching? Yep. Well-executed? 100% Yes. Fuga: Melodies of Steel has a simple, pretty cliche war story: You're these children who suddenly find their village attacked, need to escape, and somehow find a way to rescue your parents and friends back. But it's the execution of the story that shines: It's never too complicated, gets told at a steady pace, and keeps you engaged and wanting to "turn the page" next chapter to know what happens next. The combat is much like the story: Simple enough to understand, but its complexity lies in mixing and matching your kids to get the most out of them in each battle. Simple pros and cons: Pros -Very engaging story that keeps you reading/playing on -Easy to play combat that ends up harder to master -Beautiful music. Just excellent. -XCOM/Fire Emblem-esque base segments that are enjoyable to build up -Character interactions are well done -Fairly balanced paths for all levels of players. -Lots of cats n dogs. Who doesn't love 'em? Cons: -Combat is fairly difficult in the beginning due to lack of options, as is the woe of many RPGs. -Hard to know sometimes what materials you lack for base upgrades due to how the game works. -Music makes it hard to focus in battle sometimes. -Slow, steady gameplay that can't be rushed. -Pretty cliche story. It's well done, but doesn't really reinvent the RPG wheel much. -Not enough cats n dogs. Never enough. Will you enjoy it? That's up to you to decide. But if you love strategic planning coupled with a good story, you'll pick Fuga up. It's worth your money and time to at least try it.

  Highly Recommended. This is one of the most intense and tightly crafted games I've ever played. There's no grinding or chances to prep, so a game like this needs to finely balanced, and it succeeds wonderfully. Every single decision feels urgent and important, down to who you chose to talk to, but the game doesn't hate you the way a lot of games like that would. You really do pay for decisions you make as early as the first chapter until the late game, but at the same time none of that is necessarily run breaking. The game doesn't mislead you into traps or wasting your precious time, but still gives you the dignity to make your own decisions without just telling you no. It's also particularly emotionally intense at the same time. It's still a cartoony game, but especially given the war in Ukraine right now, a lot of it really hits hard due to the subject matter. It's got kind of a furry Fullmetal Alchemist esthetic going on, but at the same time it's much more explicitly magic steampunk WW II, starring child soldiers whose emotions you need to manage and whose souls you can sacrifice for ammo. Minor spoiler: You get to kill Josef Mengele though, which is a plus, but at the same time Josef Mengele exists, which is a negative. His lab is brought down to a PG depiction, but still, it's Mengele.

  I've played for 8 hours, and I'm bored. The gameplay is very repetitive, the battles are ok, but easy so far and after 20 battles all feel the same (I'm in chapter 6 and I've never lost a battle). Gameplay that is not battles is bland and feels more like chores. For a 15-20 € game will be fine, but 40 € is expensive for what it offers.

  There are a lot of ideas I love in this game, but ultimately it gets too repetitive. After about 1/4 of the game, nothing new gets introduced. It all gets quite stale and there isn't enough in terms of plot or character development to push through the saggy, unchallenging gameplay. The game does have a lot of heart though. Looking at the series' history, I think the devs did the most with what was likely a tight budget. I'd be interested in a sequel, because there is a lot to love conceptually, but those ideas feel a bit half baked in this instalment. Definitely worth trying if you're interested by the promo material, but don't be surprised if you find your enthusiasm waning long before the game's end.

  Fuga: Melodies of Steel is an absolutely gorgeous game. The art is awe inspiring and the music is emotional and beautiful. The actual mechanics of the game, the turn based combat and life-sim, persona-style, intermission character management are incredibly engaging, full of thoughtful important choices and great moments. The combat is challenging and unique. Based around 3 different types of weapons and a weakness system for delaying enemy attacks, it feels so good to completely stop an enemy tank in its tracks from blasting you with 3000+ damage. The story isnt exactly groundbreaking, but its fun and filled with a cast of characters that are all very lovable. HUGE recommend to people who like small sad furry kids and turn-based combat
