Twenty plus hours in, I'm not getting the hate for this game. It has none of the bugs and glitches of other Squeenix ports. [looking at you FFXV] The graphics seem smooth and the fps is decent. No stuttering or lag like other titles. The story isn't nearly as "dull and bland" as I was led to believe. In fact I find it quite compelling. The only downside is that the story is DARK. I will admit that the combat does become "repetitive" as was stated in several reviews, but it is ALSO a Final Fantasy, did you think you weren't going to have to grind???

I bought this game a long time ago, hopeful for another Final Fantasy adventure. At the time my computer could not run it more than 5 FPS. That was n an AMD HD7500, 16GB RAM, intel i7. Not a bad setup, but a bit dated. I recently got a new computer with Nvidia RTX 3080ti, 30GB RAM, and an i5 processor. This game does slightly better, but not by much at all. I'm starting to think this was a game originally released for PSP or some kind of handheld, and poorly ported to PC. Even with modern hardware, this game is a slug to get through graphically and is unplayable because of that. I have no comments on the games story, because I've never been able to get far enough to learn anything.

The game might be old, but that's no excuse for constant motion blur, nauseating camera movements and terrible difficulty balance. Combat systems offer variable playstyles that can be fun to experiment with, but there's practically nothing in the game that requires them. The story and its characters have a few ok moments, but are overall not engaging in any way. On the bright side, every achievement can be unlocked in one playthrough. 3 achievements are missable though, so check a guide before it's too late.

Ironically the best Final Fantasy for letting you take a screenshot of Seven cowboy-riding the air while having a border of the male cast with the camera set at a dutch angle.

Where to start.. Okay.. the positives. Graphics are okay for an oldish game. The story is very typical Final Fantasy and it makes you want to play more and see how it all unfolds. That is it for the positives. Now the negatives.......... Characters.. these are all over the place.. With so many characters to play and speak to.. you'll struggle to remember most of them. Some of these characters will have such few lines they become irrelevant and the voice acting at times is terrible.... Gameplay.. this is terrible The camera angle gets annoying at times.. registering the death of enemies.. then item gathering.. (yes actual item gathering at the end of a fight constantly..) You are limited to where you can go and which characters to talk to and which sub quests to do.. don't expect to be able to explore or do everything.. such limitations are forced. The combat system... horrid and goofy. I'm trying to work out if this game is purposely trying to be different from other FF games like Tactics and Crystal but I'lkl be surprised if this ever gets repeated. You'll find yourself getting very frustrated but not at the difficulty of battles but the sheer goofy controls and system. Why break a working formula on RPGs and FF style combat systems. The only reason I'm sticking to this game is because I want to see how the story concludes. Will I repeat play this game? No. Would I recommend this game? Not unless this is on offer (which is the reason I bought it). I've had it sitting there for ages and only now got round to playing it. So I can't even get a refund. Whoever made this game, should be thrown out the door by SE.. terrible.. If it wasn't for the story.,. I don't think I would ever give this a 2nd thought.

This game is horrible. I went into this trying to be as positive as possible but I had to drop it off with how little fun I was having. I ended up watching the rest of the games cutscenes on Youtube to try and see if the story is anything to write home about and sadly none of it is good at all. The game has a couple of good music tracks with the rest being forgettable. And thats the biggest positive I can give this game. The rest is horrendous. The story is extremely convoluted and make you read up on the encyclopedia to get a good idea of all the details going on. The characters are a joke. They just throw a ton of characters at you but none of them have any personality at all, even the most developed characters can be summed up in 2 phrases. None of them have any depth to them and all of this boring stuff is being told to you through some of the worst voice acting I have ever seen, it feels like every character was told to read off of a page and there was 0 voice directing to help them understand their character. I hate this because the actual concept of the game is pretty interesting, a more mature war themed Final Fantasy is interesting. But none of it really sticks the landing and the whole war concept basically just constantly has cut corners with a load of exposition dump so you get a general idea of what is happening. The gameplay is somehow even more messed up, I can excuse a boring story if I have fun playing the game, but every second actually playing the game just feels awful. Its basically an action game but you play the game with 2 to 3 buttons for all your total actions, it feels like a mobile game in every way. A not very well developed one at that. The maps are boring and uninspired and enemies aren't fun to fight. The game can be difficult, but thats purely because its a pain in the ass to target enemies. Every time an enemy dies you also are supposed to loot them. Its needless and doesn't add anything to the game. Enemies attacks feel like they don't have a lot of wind up which means you just cycle between attacking and dodging. Its mind numbing and boring. Worst part is that if you want to experience everything the game has to offer you have to do multiple play throughs. I couldn't even get to finish 1 playthrough, there is no way in hell im wasting more of my time playing multiple playthroughs. The only positive here is that you have a lot of choice in weapons you can use, problem here is that also means you have to grind up multiple characters. Overall if you actually enjoy the combat (which there is definitely a chance you enjoy it) then you will find a lot of potential content here. Besides that there are a bunch of other things I hated. The port has issues in classic square enix fashion, multiple problems with Anti aliasing and Gsync, there is a nice guide on steam that can help you with some of these issues. The game does a lot to get in the way of you actually playing the game, before a mission you have limited time in your home base to spend on doing things like spending time with characters or doing other activities. Those activities are boring but they can be important. Its up to you if you want to do these activities. Lastly there are also random encounters in the overworld for some reason. Overall this game has very few things going for it and too much going against it for me. Maybe if I spent more time on it I would start to enjoy it, but as it stands this has been the worst experience I have had with Square enix yet and I genuinely think this might be the worst Final Fantasy game I have played. I recommend anyone to avoid this, even those who want to play all final fantasy games, just look up the story if you are interested in it but the story in itself really is nothing worth writing home about. I only played this because I heard it has a connection to the myth of FF 13, but that connection is so loose that it might as well have no connection. Overall just a massive disappointment and not worth playing.

FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 was a masterpiece.. as a PSP game. This remastered version somewhat tarnished the original. I recommend this for hardcore FF fans who can overlook some technical disappointments for a good story. As a FF fan, I tried to be as biased as possible and clicked thumbs up.

It just feels like they really got everything wrong with this game. None of the stuff that makes other Final Fantasy games great is present here. Feels and looks like a PSP game, because it is one. The visuals are super bland, which is really unfortunate. Combat is not remotely fun at all, and that's the big focus in this game. I'm a FF series vet, and I just keep giving up on this one every time I try to give it a chance. If you desperately want to try this, make sure you get it on a sale. It's really not good.

People with the negative reviews here are being over dramatic, for its price, time of development, the first Final Fantasy game with a M rating and a Psp game that crossed over to console/PC they did a great job. It was a fun one to get 100% achievements. Gameplay-difficulty/Controls/Configurations: I will start with the bad and what I think bothers people the most. If your struggling on combat start on cadet mode (easy), its recommended for a reason. You have 14 playable characters and are allowed 3 on the battlefield at once. All are set with their own personal style weapons and not changeable, not much customization but most Final Fantasy games are like this so what did you expect? Each section of the map will have enemies some you have to defeat to move on some you don't. The enemies can be difficult from a grunt to a boss, it all depends on your play style. If you using close combat character yeah you might have a tough time with a flying type. I recommend using a Xbox-controller. The most ANNOYING thing about the combat is the random auto locking that can lock on defeated targets (purpose of this is to harvest Phantoma). This game ran smooth on my PC, never crashed once. Story/Characters/Graphics: The story gives you a feel of FF8,FF10,FF13 and FF. Of course it does have its own personal story that does stand out. I really like the 4 factions in the game and they all have specific style and design that shows with their weapons, buildings and culture. Like most FF games the story is complex but its not too confusing, the quick version, one of the factions resources is dwindling and with no help from the others they decide to rage war for their own survival. The characters have names after a deck of cards, which almost seems boring but they got it right and matched up the personality's well. They put a lot work in the amount of voice acting. Besides a few they did very well with the cast, high risk with that many. I uploaded some screenshots of cool designs of the game. For its time and software, game looks great and they added some neat ideas/scenes. Map/Side-quests/Extra: Over world map is pretty simple and the regions are divided by 4 sections prior to the invasion, they added chocobos and an 2 airships a standard fast travel one or your personal one if you unlock it. Its really not a hard map to find things. Lots of side tasks you can do for random story lines. They also have a mini-game/mission through out the story. If you don't like it they give you the option of skipping. This game is really fair and you can tell they tried a lot to make it enjoyable, challenging and a unique experience. The OST is fantastic, bravo! This is one of my favorite Final Fantasy, I have beaten and played most. It is a shame its getting way too much negativity than it deserves.

In my opinion, FF Type-0 just doesn't come together. The story is told sloppily, with way too much exposition but not enough meat to make you really care (or even understand what's happening unless you read the ingame lore book which is the length of an average-sized novel). The gameplay is floaty, with a ton of different characters, none of which get enough characterization or are fleshed out enough to make you truly care about them. As a result, the entire experience is incredibly mediocre. The fact that the multiplayer portion of the original PSP game was patched out as well makes the experience even worse - they are replaced with AI "shadows" if you choose so, but the AI in the game is literally braindead. AI companions stand around, get hit by everything and miss most of their attacks, and since you and your companions die in literally 2-3 hits most of the time, things get frustrating very quickly. There is also not too much "HD" about this game. Environments still look very crusty and not much different compared to some PSP screenshots I found, only the character models received a significant glow-up - but not even all of them, as many NPCs look massively worse than the player characters. For an FF game, it's relatively short, but the real-time combat and story feel floaty, not fleshed out and often very frustrating. When the game was over, I realized I couldn't even remember most of the story and I truly was not able to care about most moments; the game just wasn't bringing it across well enough to be engaging. The english voice acting is an extremely mixed bag as well, with both really good and really bad voices and inflections. There are good points though: the soundtrack is great, with a really good credits theme; there are some interesting (though underutilized) aspects like chobobo breeding, spell leveling, offline training; and every character has quite a few different abilities and skills to choose from. Overall, though, Type-0 was kind of a pain to play. It's probably the worst FF game I ever played. On the PSP, I may have found the game to be "just ok", but in the year of our lord 2023, it's just bad overall. There are better FF titles to spend your time with.
