  I found a solution for those who had a problem with story mode after the game crashes I ran into the same issue and looked into the Steam discussions(some made back in 2012), most were the same issue as of today and luckily, I found a response from a user who listed instructions on how to fix the error (Link: https://steamcommunity.com/app/37240/discussions/0/828923952144552594/#c828925849177068695) (Read susejmaster's comment) Instead of you just having to reading the thread, I'll run down how to prevent the game from crashing in story mode: Step 1. Open windows Step 2. Search run and run the program Step 3. Paste the following text to Run: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Diner Dash Hometown Hero\assets\downloads\_default\restaurants" Step 4. Look into each folder where comics are located(You should see one or two for each restaurant) Step 5. Delete the .swf(ShockWave) files Once you've deleted the Shockwave files, the game shouldn't run into any issues after playing Story Mode Currently, this issue hasn't been fixed for about 10+ years I hope this helps others who wants to play this nostalgic game (Edit 2: It seems I found out a user who copied word by word from my review, however they put up an alternative method which could be beneficial for those if the first method I put up failed. The first method I did put is the most efficient way to get the game running rather than crashing. Other than that, check out L.L.’s review too.)

  Always crash while playing although I followed instructions to delete inputs swf. Can anybody help me fix this problem? Or can I get refund?

  Crashes too much, I bought it without reading the reviews! I could of saved $10 ugh but the game itself is good and fun, it's just that it crashes a lot.

  This game crashes every time i try to start story mode. I've tried it on different computers, same thing happens. Not worth it. To be honest I don't understand why steam has kept the game on for sale since they know it doesn't work. Greed can be the only reason to keep selling a broken game.

  It is 2023 and the game still crashes. I bought the game for the nostalgia and I thought the game would be fixed by now but apparently not... (-.-")

  My partner wanted to play this for nostalgia, we don't understand how such an old simple game could be so glitchy and prone to crashing. Also the mouse lag is brutal. THE GAME IS FREE TO PLAY ONLINE and way better quality.

  [b]I've realised people are rating this game down because of crashes when it tries to play cut scenes, this can easily be solved by going into the game's folder and deleting the .SWF files from the INTRO and OUTRO folders. I don't know why it crashes and really, it shouldn't be on here unless it works but it's on here and it's a decent game once you get past the stupid cutscene bug.[/b] I love the Diner Dash series, I think HH is another decent rung on the ladder really, though in all honesty I don't think it's worth £7+. Well, I suppose that's a bit harsh, it could probably scrape worthiness by playtime as if you were to sit and play the entire thing through it would take you an hour or two (I hesitate to comment on its worth as I can think of cheaper games with more substance). I did, however, find the Endless mode on this game to get ludicrously hard quite quickly, no idea why. Maybe my parents taught me poor coping strategies. TL:DR - It's a fun little game that you can easily waste several hours on, over time, and it very easy to pick up and drop whenever you feel like it (the plot, for example, will not have a profound effect on your life and dreams). You will also find yourself passively aggressively judging the customers when they get pissy and shake their heads at you, but it's okay, becase you're fabulous.

  I know that this game has some crashing issues and I found a way to play this game with it's cutscenes. 1. Open the game 2. Go to 'Options' 3. Remove the tick on 'Full Screen' the game is now in mirrored mode 4. Now the game should work NOTE: It worked for me so there is no guarantee that this will work for everyone, but I still do hope that I could help some of you
