  I enjoy building the routes then running my trains. I've always had an interest in model trains, and at 81, I enjoy doing it virtually. :) Would really enjoy a change to the terrain building tab wherein I could just paint trees on rather than making a section then using copy and paste.

  I would love to give this game a good review, but I just can't. As someone who has been using Trainz since Trainz 2004, I've always loved the more sandbox nature of Trainz and how easy it was to get legacy content into newer versions (I was getting my 2004/2006/2009 content into Trainz 2010). With this version of the game, I had issues simply getting the damn game to run and download DLC I purchased WITH THE GAME. For some reason, rather than use Valve's CDN, they chose to use their horribly slow download station which errors out constantly and goes as as slow as I kid you not, 10 Bytes per second (this is not constant, just the slowest I got). Yikes. After contacting support, and voiding my ability to refund the game by trying to download my DLC, I got the game to run. I was greeted with a slow, laggy mess, and I don't have a slow computer by any means, this games minimum graphics card requirement is a GT 430, I have a 1660 SC. I was averaging 10-20 FPS on mid graphics settings for the game. Overall, I'd recommend playing Train Simulator or Train Sim World (2) instead. They might have tons of micro-transactions and glitches, but they run better than this thing ever did for me, and that was without tweaks. It honestly saddens me how badly this game ran on my computer. I'll probably just go back to Trainz 2010 since I own that on CD. Oh and by the way, I've only actually played in game for about 4 hours, those 12 hours were me trying to download the 3 DLCs I own. ~Edit~ After writing this review I went to uninstall this game. However being that this thing seems to love being hard for some reason, it installed all the games content somewhere else on hard drive, meaning it simply uninstalled a forwarder to the 50+GB folder. I had to manually wipe the folder from my hard drive.

  What is this s**t ?? Why when I want to download a new train does it download up to 5 kb / s ?? Seriously ?? The free server in Download Station is limited to ~ 5KB / s. If you want faster access you will need to purchase a first class ticket from the Trainz store. I played the first trainz, 2004 and then 2006. Those were the days.

  This used to be my favorite rail simulation game. However recently, it's been downhill since the subscription service Trainz Plus separated from the main game. No longer can you just get Trainz plus and use the same TRS 2019. Now it's a whole seperate thing. You have to essentially install the whole fucking game again just to get "cool" features. Waste of space and money. So after years of playing this game, I'm uninstalling it from my computer. 15 gigs for the main game and 96 gigs for the all the custom content I installed. It was fun while it lasted. But like every game nowadays it's becoming DLC and Subscription hell. T'was nice knowing ya. Thanks for the memories while the times were still good.

  I rarely downvote a game, but this one’s getting a hearty “do not buy” from me. Here’s the skinny: It’s a decent game. Overpriced as hell, but hey that’s the genre, and that’s what Steam sales are for, amirite? The driving is alright and fairly immersive. But… The graphics are not great. Far from photorealism. With the settings completely maxed it still looks like an early Unity game tbh. People don’t move. They pop in and out of existence and basically t-pose (not literally, but close enough). Matter of fact, aside from the trains themselves and gates swinging up and down I don’t recall any animation at all in the game. Raytraced shadows, but everything but the trains are static, so I don’t know why they bother. And what really jabs my fourth point of contact is they refuse to have Workshop support, and probably 95% of the content for the sim is user-made, hosted on their servers, which they charge a subscription fee to access. Okay, technically you can download them for “free” but they cap downloads at 5kb/sec. Yeah you read that right. 5 *kb*/sec. It’s 1995 again, you can practically hear the Skreeeeeeee of the dial-up modem. So if you want to download a route or locomotive some other player spent their time and attention to create, it’s going to take ALL. DAMN. NIGHT. Gaming PCs aren’t exactly power sippers, so you can decide for yourself whether that’s “free” or not. So subscriptions *and* microtransactions *and* indie-quality graphics. Wow! All the great things we love! So between the lackluster graphics and the archaic subscription/throttled downloads I’m recommending this game as a hard pass. Don’t waste your money, get a train with a better engine.

  This game is one of worst DLC nightmare I have ever seen. When I had Trainz 2006 as a kid on a CD, it came with quite a lot of routes and trains, plus what was on the download station at the price of one game. Now you barely get six routes. To get most of the DLC you want, you are going to have to spend hundreds of dollars on top of an already $40 game. Listen, I am not entirely opposed to DLC content. I play bloody Paradox games, for crying out loud. But there comes a point where you aren't selling a game, you are selling the foundation of one and ransoming everything else. Trainz 2019 exceeds this point entirely. "Well hey at least there is the download station right?" NO! See the hours I've put into this game? DON'T BE FOOLED. I've only spent 20 hours AT BEST in the game proper. The other 80 come from leaving my pc on overnight for SEVERAL DAYS in order to download the assets for ONE third party map (A map that I paid for btw, but we'll get to that in a minute). Turns out Auran/N3V Games requires you to purchase a special download ticket subscription in order to not have your download speed capped. How much does this download ticket cost? Well at minimum its $69.49 PER YEAR. ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MINDS? "Well we can't afford to offer download servers for free!" they said on one of their forums. Sure, I could except that, if it weren't for the fact that you are already selling a bare game with hundreds of dollars worth of DLC needed to get the full experience. And if hosting the download servers is such a problem, then why not allow us to use the Steam Workshop like many other games? This payware culture extends even to third party content. Since the download station is so worthless due to the speed cap, the only way to efficiently have people download your addons is to host them on a third party website. And since hosting that website will take your own money, it motivates you to charge people for what are essentially mods. The route I spent hours getting assets for off the download station? That cost around $15. Basically every third party website you come across for Trainz will have the same issue where most of their stuff costs quite a bit. For these guys, I can almost excuse them, as they aren't the developers raking in cash from the game itself, but compared to almost every other game I've played that has had third party modding? I've never seen anything like this. Most of those games have modders just uploading things they create if they so choose as addons for everyone who has already bought the game. You can argue that this is what the Download Station is, but as previously mentioned, downloading anything significant will take a very, very long time because the company has capped your download speed to unless you give them nearly $70 a year. It is ridiculous. TL;DR buying this game will get you next to nothing except the opportunity to spend more money on DLC, download subscriptions, and third party content. It is not worth your time. Buy a train game that actually respects its customers, as there are many on Steam.

  I can't recommend this - the line that comes with it Kickstarter County is very nice and I can see an a lot of work has gone into it and I particularly like the way it feels a very living world - factories and farms working very nicely but the two lines I got with it: ECML Edinburgh Dundee and Cornish mainline simply don't work. Ultimately I can't help comparing this with the other train simulator game 'TS classic' and whilst this has a few nice touches I'd love to see implemented into TS classic, this game is simply not in the same league.

  My entire 1.7 hours of playtime was comprised of downloading dependencies required by a route. I called it quits after 11 items in the queue of 511 items, had downloaded at the woeful rate of 10-50 kb/s. The solution? You buy into the Yearly Subscription Service for $120 a year and get access to all Trainz games versions going back to Trainz: A New Era, or buy a $35 "First-Class Ticket" which unlocks the full download speeds from their servers for one year. Quite possibly the most predatory business practices I've ever seen in gaming in my 20+ years of gaming. One should not have to pay a minimum $35-per-year subscription to make the game actually playable in a reasonable timeframe, ontop of a $40 base game asking price. I get that the devs have to make money, but... this just feels like extortion. I reckon if this were literally any other genre of game; this would be seen as abhorrent and unacceptable and nobody would stand for it. But this is the train sim genre. This sort of garbage has been the norm for twenty years. I'm just happy there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel, in the form of Derail Valley Simulator and Railroader Shortline Operations.

  Holy smokes, prepare to spend a medium sized fortune if you want any content to play. I know its a 2018/2019 release, but it looks and feels like its from a decade ago. Scratches some of the train-sim itch, but there has to be better options.
