  Usually Artifex Mundi doesn't miss, but this one doesn't have much going for it apart from really good art. The puzzles are all pretty tedious, the point n' click is often confused and muddled, and there's just not much there in terms of the story. There are a few cool elements, but it doesn't come together.

  What happened to the quality levels in this eighth game? The artwork is grimy, gungy and grainy. It needs to look slick and smooth for a proper pleasing fantasy feeling. It appears the native resolution was lowered from series standard 1600x900 to 1366x768. This is slightly lower than the native resolution 1400x900 of the first game! (not available on Steam) Despite the strange reduction in quality, there are finally some interesting things in the gameplay. There are a couple sections of action, where timing and reacting are required. It's not difficult in the slightest, but it's such a departure from the usual gameplay that I enjoyed them a lot. I don't know if there will be any more Secret Order games, but it has been 3½ years since Sunward last released a game to Steam. Over the course of the series, they took a very unique first game and pumped out generic, yet inoffensive, sequels. I like The Secret Order as a series, but I literally cannot remember what happened in any of them without looking back at my screenshots. These sequels were forgettable, to the max. I've looked for other games like the first Secret Order: New Horizon, but haven't found any. I'm sure there are some out there in the thousands of hidden object adventure games on Steam, but I'd really expected that the sequels would have been those similar games. Well, there you have it. I've now played and reviewed all The Secret Order games. (Except for TSO: New Horizon which I played but haven't reviewed because it's not on Steam.)

  Too short (3hrs for full completion of main chapter with all morphing/hidden objects found.). Weak, unoriginal story. Sloppy continuity. Uninteresting cut scenes. Some truly jarring music. Simple, cookie-cutter puzzles. Decent enough graphics (apart from cut scenes at times). And the HOG puzzles themselves covered pretty much all current styles, which is unusual for a single game. Didn't really seem to be very many of them, though. I wish I'd waited for a more substantial sale, but there haven't been many new HOGs on Steam lately. Really not much to recommend this, unless you're a [i]really[/i] big fan of the series/genre.

  I have Cerebral Palsy and use a HeadMouse to work the computer. Its one of the few games that will work with my HeadMouse. Its hard finding games that I can play because I don't have use of my hands. I would recommend it to anyone with a disability.

  I have played so many games made my Artifex Mundi / Sunward Games, so obviously I have liked most of the games, and will recommend them to anyone that wanna try. However, after playing these games I have started to see a pattern, that makes me want to quit playing the games from this developer for good. First of all. After playing all these games I am seeing repeatedly that alot of puzzles are coming over and over and over again. I know it's a pretty good idea when making alot of games, that you just recycle what you have already used, but the previous game even had the same puzzles, and I am scratching my head over it. Now except for the fact that all these games (not only the secret order series that I played from 1-8) have a female main character, that is the same main character from all the games I have already played. The same voice, same personality, and she is litterary saying the same too. The games also completly lack any humour. I can't even remember smiling that much while playing through these games, even though it has been quite entertaining just for the sake of playing good point and click. No, but seriously. There isn't any comedy in these games, and I've had it. Normally I can finish these games pretty fine, and do all the achievements in one go, but this time I met something that kinda ruined it all in the end. A big reason for me being so bitter in this review. I did the game twice...because somehow I had missed a puzzle collection piece. I counted on the big picture how many scenes I had to go before I would find it, but every single piece was found, through the game. I did however see a couple of piece in 2 different scenes, but whenever I tried to click on them, I just went back to the previous scene. It was smack on top of the place you click to get back. EDIT: There is a fake puzzle piece at Nerzul's Prison. If you click it you will just return back to the previous scene. On my third walkthrough, I used a guide and saw that there is a puzzle piece after the cut scene, after release and cut scene at this very point. So basically. There are indeed two puzzle pieces at this place, before and after the cut scene! Also what the hell? Sometimes this game was really stupid. I have the right tools for a job, but I can't use it. Also the character tend to throw away items, she could have might aswell have used in the next scene. This one is not a Macgyver. She is also very afraid of the dark, and won't touch anything that isn't fully litten up. Yeah, yeah I know it's a game, but some of these things aren't really creative. If I got a knife or a lockpick, why can't I use both of them to solve the problem, instead just the one the developers feel fit for that scene? I'll guess the game was fine as normally, even with all this nonesense, and I would recommend it to other people...but for someone that has played alot of these games, just finish the Secret Order series, and change to games that aren't mass produced that much. Also to end this review. I have played maybe 30+ of these games, and I have upvoted probably 29 out of 30 of them. They aren't bad, don't get me wrong, but at this point I need something else, that isn't so monotone and recycled.

  I liked the series, but this one was too short, too easy, too predictable. I did not understand the story, especially the bonus chapter, like as if cutscenes or dialogues were missing. Don't click too fast, some dialogues and comments begin unexpectedly, it is easy to skip something by mistake. This for sure does not help understanding of the story. Sad ending for a good series.
