The Adventure Pals Возможности

The Adventure Pals is an action-packed platformer about friendship, exploration, and riding your giraffe. And, of course, the age-old tale of an evil madman with the nefarious plan of turning old people into delicious hot dogs.

Mr. B is kidnapping old people and turning them into hot dogs! It's up to you and your best buds, Mr. Rock and Sparkles the Giraffe, to save the day. Leap, slash, and blast your way through increasingly madcap levels. Along the way you'll help a whale regain confidence, take a side in the battle between toast and dinosaurs, and travel to a legendary sunken city to decide the result of a Pirate election.

Inspired by classic platformers and cartoons alike, The Adventure Pals is a mixture of lovingly handcrafted platformer levels, combat focused arenas, and unique locations with townsfolk who provide quests, items, and other goodies to aid you on your journey. Just like your favorite peanut butter and jelly sandwich, The Adventure Pals is both nutty and sweet, with perhaps just a little crunch.

  • Explore five distinct worlds, all with their own unique characters and quests.

  • Level up by defeating baddies to improve your health, stabbin', or rock-smashin'.

  • Gameplay that's easy to pick up, but ramps up the challenge as you go.

  • A fun and funny story with a bizarre but lovable cast and hilarious cartoon cutscenes.

  • Play by yourself, or with a bestie in co-op mode.

  • Three words: Giraffe. Helicopter. Tongue.

This is you! One minute it’s your birthday, the next your Papa is being stolen from you right before your eyes! Thrust into the role of adventurer, you quickly realize that you are a natural at this baddie-bashing, grapple-swinging, toaster-popping, quest-completing, experience-leveling, treasure-seeking malarky. But will you be able to rescue your Papa and stop Mr B’s diabolical plans in time?

Friend. Philosopher. MENSA member. Giraffe. Sparkles has many talents beyond being a mere mount. Use her not-at-all-creepy helicopter-like tongue to slow and direct your fall, or her long neck to yank yourself to distant enemies for devastating combo finishers, or up to those hard-to-reach platforms to, y’know... jump higher.

When you need somebody sturdy you can lean on for support, call Mr. Rock, because, well... he's a literal rock. Maybe he's a bit of a smart-aleck, but don't take him for granite - you’ll discover he has some pretty awesome abilities to unlock as you adventure through the game.
Summary
The Adventure Pals is a combination of a beat-em-up combined with a platformer with NPC RPG elements sprinkling alongside its vibrant and colorful worlds. The characters you encounter are at first disturbing, especially since at the beginning of the game we find out that old people in the game are being turned into hot dogs. Some of these hot dogs throughout the levels let out gas as well. However, for most us, fart jokes aside, only children may laugh during those sections. Initially, I had no idea what to expect from this game until I went to YouTube to see one video of someone starting to play The Adventure Pals. Immediately, I was not drawn at all towards this game. Primarily the reason I was not drawn was the art in the graphics. Very distinctly, I too am reminded of Scribblenauts comparisons when it comes to the early art of the game. I never judge games posthaste, until I thoroughly either research a game or play it for myself. Nevertheless, I found more under the surface of the more simpler architecture of the beginnings stages of all the levels. Since the art style and characters seemed to be targeted towards children more, I assumed that the levels would all be repetitive and simple in nature. Consequently, when I got to the second world levels, I was in for a surprise that changed the whole landscape of the game. Each stage builds upon itself once you stumble upon a new world and current characters are recycled as new enemy types are introduced in the stage. The Adventure Pals happens to be one of those new 2018 platformers that bring me back to my childhood as I loved flash-based games and somehow this game seems to incorporate Cartoon Network type vibes with feel-good themes of the very carefully crafted dialogue between NPC’s in each hub per world as you take on new quests and go on new adventures. In addition, the mechanics have been precisely configured as well as the controls for fluidity.
Gameplay Mechanics
Some of the enemies are hard to decipher what they really are because we are never provided full names for all the enemies like we are with the bosses. Ultimately, the goal of the game is to take on more side quests to unlock new stages. In each stage, there is typically one sticker to collect and many cupcakes. The only function of the cupcakes is taking cupcakes to the cupcake king, which you find in the shops in each world, so he can fart out an egg per each time to get new costumes. As far as I am aware, the costumes provide no in-game benefits but only cosmetics towards your starting characters, the boy whose name I cannot remember and your little rock pal. Sparkles the Giraffe is your main companion throughout your adventures and should be your favorite among all of them. However, unlike others, I love my rock pal more in this game because he helps me fight enemies and he is cute. :D The enemy types range from simple enemies to harder enemies that you must sometimes counter-attack and others that explode, and you must avoid. Traps are implemented as soon as world 2, where spikes, axes, dynamite platforms, and hidden platforms eventually becoming all present. This game is not a simple button-smashing beat-em-up style platformer because, in the latter stages, some strategy does help as some enemies you cannot jump on their heads but only fight with your sword. Thus far, the sword is the only weapon the boy has, except rock and Sparkes the Giraffe is only used for gliding to different areas. One addition I do like about the game design is when you control the rock with a video game joystick to hit these block checkpoints to open a locked side you cannot open any other way. Pacing is slow at first but builds up in pace once some of the explosive enemies are bombarding and killing other enemies. Other than this, yes, most levels feel slow in pace, but most stages can be completed in fifteen to twenty minutes depending on how much you want to go out and explore. Worth A Look, Buy Yes, The Adventure Pals with its card-based ability system per level that increases abilities, unlockable chests in stages that give you health potions, and bombs of various types and great cross-correlation between beat-em-up and platforming with NPC and humorous characters, dialogue as a one-in-all hybrid of genres is worth a look for those of you who enjoy flash games and Cartoon Network type cartoon story arcs and characters. However, for those of you who are adults like myself, some of you may find the game too easy if you are already average in the genre as a whole or an experienced user in both beat-em-ups and platformers. It is not worth a buy if you are looking for a perfect blend of a fast-paced platformer, because this is not what this game is about. This game is about the humorous characters, bosses, and great beat-em-up, platform mechanics stage-to-stage. Furthermore, it is repetitive at times, best played in small sessions but one to two hours per session at most and is an excellent pick-up-and-play game for those of you who are on a limited schedule as I sometimes am myself. Overall: Graphics: 9/10 Character design/ Detail-oriented: Something special and very creative which you typically see rarely now in days: 10/10 Mechanics/ Controls: 9/10 Appeal: 8/10 Sound/Music: 5/10- Sound and music are good, but I do wish it was far less repetitive. I think the developers could have went the extra mile for this, but it is sufficient enough. Total: 8/10: triumphant

    Apr 18, 2018

Recently, I've been into a lot of different stuff including everything, but not gaming. Busy schedule made me feel so sad about inability to spend more time on Steam playing everything I bought for the last few weeks. My email notifications literally raped my ears with these message sounds regarding new price drops and game releases. Frankly speaking, I was kinda happy to see all these titles on sale and understanding that I will be ready soon enough to try them all warmed my heart. One of these gems was Adventure Pals - game that I loved from the first sight by just only looking at screenshots. I was looking for an information regarding developers earlier games and their connection to Burrito Bison game made for mobiles but couldn't find anything about it. The whole art style looks pretty much similar and some illustrations represent characters from the Burrito game. I am still a bit confused, let me know if you know more than me about the connection in the comments below. Adventure Pals is really amazing game, but it's also annoying at the same time. The whole trick that this game was made by the independent game studio, who took lots of inspiration from all these hardcore late 80's - early 90's games, you know and at the end we can see a perfect adventure platformer as its finest. But...it's not hardcore at all. I never thought that Adventure Pals was going to be such an easy relaxing candy game. When I saw it, I was picturing all these yelling stuff, throwing gamepads around your living room and breaking your monitors one by one. I thought it was going to be another Cuphead style game, but I was wrong. I decided to clarify it straight from the beginning to make it clear, that this game is not for hardcore lovers at all and if you are a masochist, you entered a wrong door, my friend. However, that doesn't mean that game is bad, not at all. This game brings us another example of a well done high quality product where you can spend a few evenings, relaxing after hard workday. It's really colorful cartoonish game that makes you feel satisfied every single minute you spend playing it. The whole plot of the game turns around the little boy, who got a giraffe on his birthday. Few moments later, the father of the boy will be kidnapped and you will be forced to rescue him with the help of your new giraffe friend and a pet rock (yeah you heard me right, don't ask me, you should see it by yourself) by exploring different areas. The whole idea of the game will be traveling around the map, changing these areas one by another to gather 5 rubies, which you will need to bring to your quest giver after. Each dungeon contains 5 wells - yeah, you enter each level by jumping into the well - and there you will meet a lot of different creative monsters, such as flying hot dogs, ink jellies and dinosaurs running around with shields, etc. These creatures alongside with the game style are truly the most memorable thing for me in Adventure Pals. Monsters fights will be mixed with different puzzles solving thing, where your giraffe will come handy as never before. Like, to be honest, sometimes I caught myself on a thought that protagonist here is a giraffe, not a boy, because he was that important in some moments. He uses his mouth as a wrench to open the mechanisms, grab enemies with his heck as a hook during the battles and he can even whirl his tongue to use it like a helicopter blade when you fall down, maybe one of the most creative things I have ever seen before. All other things are pretty much the same with everything we saw before multiple times already - jump from wall to wall, avoid spikes, gather coins to buy items, level up your hero to become stronger, meet new obstacles and monsters which will be slightly (just slightly) difficult than previous one. I was really hoping that bosses in this game would be the challenge for me, just to equalize easy dungeon runs with a tougher boss fights, but no, it never happened. Bosses were more like another way for developers to show their creativity to the gamers, that's it. In general, I can say that Adventure Pals doesn't bring you anything new in terms of innovations or fresh game mechanics, however you will not be disappointed if you are a genre lover and know how to truly enjoy the games. Finding every secret, cupcake and sticker to complete this game on 100% will take you some time, if you really care about such things. Frankly speaking, I guess that games like Adventure Pals are more about exploring, not just rushing through. Ok, to sum everything up! You should grab this game if you: + Action platformer lover + Fan of the candy cartoonish graphics in games + Looking for a bright cute game to spend few evenings with after a hard stressful day + Eager to play something really adorable, that will take your heart away with its art style, vibes and humor, of course. Recommend to avoid if you: - Well, like I said before, the only con is that this game is absolutely easy, no hardcore elements included, so if you came here for this, than I am sorry to disappoint you, it’s not that game. Enjoy! Follow my curator's page if you enjoy my reviews and want to stay tuned!

Graphic 25%(visual presentation 20% art/HUD 5%)+music 5% sound 5% voice5%+technique(optimization, camera, physics, etc)10% +gameplay40%(mechanism/level design 20% combat/control 20%)+story/world settings/characters 10% 9*0.2+10*0.05+7*0.05+9*0.05+6*0.05+8*0.1+10*0.2+9*0.2+9*0.1=8.9 I'll put it simple and plain: this is one of the hidden gems that you definitely have missed. And it's a shame that the sales didn't go well. Well maybe that's the truth for every good thing(if any) in the world? emmm
1.Graphic
Remember the Behemoth games, say, battleblock theatre? This game has some sort of similar stupidity tone in it, with a far more delicate touch. Graphic wise, the art is in top-notch cartoonish style and detailed scene/stage settings. Sometimes I have to stop for a moment just to stare at these cute animations on the screen. Such a clean, relaxed and pleasant atmosphere fits in well with the story and general gameplay, which is another reason to appreciate the aesthetics. I can't even praise it more for a indie game. Great great job! UI also looks neat, I'll stop my bragging here, or else it's gonna last forever lmao.
2.Music
Well, a bit of in the middle I'd say. For the world map part(where you can ride your pal giraffe and slash those poor little bastard bread), I forgot if there is only one BGM or not, but as for the platform part(5 stages+1 boss fight per chapter), the BGM is a bit dull. And there are only at most 10 different pieces repeating themselves in a unintriguing way.
3.Sound
...on the other hand, sound is stone-solid. Don't take me wrong, I'm not saying that there are tons of effects or abundant types of sounds. However, I always find myself satisfying by just slashing my sword and hearing those rich sound of explosion and cracking, even though they are basically the same with one another. Sounds in themselves do not possess any sophisticated value, but a proper combination of sounds with the action will make a hell of gameplay. In some part of the gameplay, you have to control the Mr.stone buddy to fly across the stage, it makes such a hilarious sound when collides with a wall that I recorded it as my alarm clock sound...it works pretty well: I now wake up with a stupid smile everyday.
4.Voice
I don't think the characters in game are dubbed...correct me if I'm wrong. Well given consideration of the enlightened dialogues in game, it would have added some funny flavors if there is a soundtrack, done carefully and correctly. But anyway...
5.Technique
Physics serves the gameplay mechanism good, nothing to complain so far. Game does have some stuttering from time to time, but generally no need to worry about the optimization if you have a medium-end or better rig. Not much to say about camera, just like any other platformers, simple and good. I have to mention an opposite example here, the newly arrived game , which is a parkour-ish platformer, but having a weird shaking camera that always put its character in the center of the screen(which is of couse absurd if you really set it like this), plus the uncanon accelerated movement, lmao, makes me feel dizzy in a 2D game. This game, however, does not have such technical problems or poor designs.
6.Mechanism/Level Design
They nailed it. You have a giraffe pal from beginning which will give you the hover movement if you hold your jump button in the air(serves a bit like the glide mechanism in other platformers, say, Ori) and the hook(well, the giraffe tongue) for which you can use in movement or in combat. Other classical platformer elements such as wall jump, spring(a toaster...), step-jump on enemies, etc are also included to keep players busy and generally add some challenges into gameplay. All in all, it's more or less on the casual side, with none(or only a tiny bit of) difficulty... There are 5 stages(each has 5 independent levels) + 1 boss fight + 1 arena level per chapter. Each separate level has collectables(cakes for the cosmetic items, and stickers). Each chapter has its own theme, forest, dessert, ocean or even an alien planet, these variant environments feel refreshing and nowhere near boring, since you only need 8-9 hours to beat the game(a merit for me, I don't have time for those 100+ hour bs single player 3A titles. those are for no-life no-friend losers, bite me, I am a biased asshole multiplayer game lover). Speaking of which, it also has a local coop mode to let you have some fun with your pal(in real-life). You can level up your character through fighting enemies and gain a skill each level. Also your sword will look sharper and shinier(from the wooden toy sword all the way to the crystal dragon slayer).
7.Combat/Control
The game is more of action aspect than of the combat. There is just one button for you to smash stuff with the sword, game also provides with several items that could be used in a battle(I like the sunshine bomb that could turn the already cute enemies cuter...lol no spoiler), but still, the combat is simple, no matter how intense it looks, you basically just press the squre button like crazy(there is a dodge mechanism, for which you just need to move backward when the opponent is about to attack). The Mr.stone buddy will help a lot in the later parts of the game, especially when it's fully upgraded. Control is smooth and responsive, a golden gauge for the game genre, button layout is straightforward and customizable. Recommend using a controller.
8.Characters/World Setting/Story
Your papa(looks like your grandpa) was caught by a mad scientist, you ride your giraffe and set off to save him, befriend with a stone and some toast, find a pants for the overweight whale, be a disciple of a crab then fight a giant bacon buccaneer...this game does remind me of the good old days, when I had nothing to worry about and felt happy about stupid little things. Now I only feel stupid for things that supposed to be 'happy'. How life has turned an adventurous pal into an 'adult' pal, ugh... Buy, Wait for sales, Rent/Deep deep sale, Never touch Rating: Buy

I remeber playing this game when it was a flash game on new grounds and enjoying the story, the mechanics, and the overvall silliness of the game. Now seeing as a full-fledged game I was super excited. 11/10

This is an excellent game to play in coop mode with a younger person (I'm playing it with 7 year old son). It's a platformer, but quite forgiving if one of us falls off, as it merely warps you together. We're playing this with xbox controllers on the living room tv and it works perfectly for local coop couch gaming.

This is overall not a bad game. Its graphics are cute, and general gameplay is easy and straightforward (rather too much so, but that's a matter of preference). However, it suffers from a few very major flaws:

Combat is very uncontrollable: for example, jumping into the air after getting a few hits on a small enemy is unnecessary and annoying. The worst is the dodging; you can only dodge when an enemy is about to attack, and it replaces walking. When fighting against many enemies, it's basically impossible to skillfully do what you want to do, and it basically devolves to mashing the attack button, maybe jumping occasionally, and chewing through your items.
Collectibles are hidden very poorly. I think I can count on one hand all the collectibles that are something resembling hidden. For most of them, you just get to a fork in the road and ask yourself, "Hmm, which of these two equally obvious paths leads to the cupcake?" You pick the right one, and great. You pick the wrong one, and you have to backtrack through half the stage to go down the other path. Or, in the case of the water levels where there are one-way currents involved, you just miss it. Which brings me to my next point.
There is no way to just die or reset the current stage. Did you just miss that seahorse and now can't get the cupcake? Did spike blocks fall on the platform and now you literally cannot finish the level in its current state? Too bad! You have two options: you can either throw yourself on spikes and glug through all your potions and die (a full inventory of potions with the haggling skill costs 610 coins, by the way) (and without any potions, you'll likely die again), or you can exit to the map, losing all progress, and spend 10 minutes replaying the level you just went through.
Again, it is not at all a terrible game, but its flaws are frankly just too much for me.

Byte-sized review Quirky platformer but lacks challenge
Review in under a minute The Adventure Pals is a weird one to recommend, especially to seasoned platformer gamers like myself who grew up playing the original Megaman and its countless sequels from the late eighties and nineties. On the one hand it looks gorgeous, like a modern cartoon transformed into a game. This also acts as one of its detriments because the games story veers so far into Cartoon Network territory that most adults will most likely feel off-kilter with it. The games story is absolute nonsense featuring a young boy on a mission to save his father from an evil megalomaniac who seems intent on turning everybody and everything into hotdogs and also happens to wear an actual goldfish bowl on his head - water, fish and all. The young boy is joined on his quest by a sentient rock and a giraffe named Sparkles that can fit inside the boy's backpack). Did I mention on his journey the boy will encounter living toast trying to overthrow the dinosaurs? No one can accuse the game for not being imaginative with its characters and story line and I imagine most young kids will get a kick out of this but it becomes a harder sell when you are an adult. The giraffe in the backpack acts as an interesting gaming mechanic that allows the young boy to traverse the world by sticking its long neck out and grabbing onto things in the distance. The problem is that most levels are so easy to traverse through that the game provides hardly any challenge. The Adventure Pals is the sort of game that may elicit a chuckle or two on a lazy Saturday afternoon but the compulsion to continue playing to the end unfortunately diminishes due to the nature of the story and the fact that it provides very little to no challenge to complete. As a game to sit your young kids in front of, I can wholeheartedly recommend it, but for the seasoned gamer looking for a bit more bite from their platforming adventures you might want to rethink this one before hitting the purchase button.
One word or phrase to sum up the experience Quirky
Performance/Bug related incidents I did not encounter any bugs or performance related issues during my playthrough
Similar to games Pinstripe; The Last Hex; Chicory: A colourful Tale
Suitable for Suitable for young kids and pre-teens. Teenagers and adults will notice the lack of challenge fairly early.
