Simmiland Возможности

Simmiland is a god game.

Watch how mankind develops!

What the heck is Simmiland?

In Simmiland you create a small civilization that you can only influence indirectly by playing cards to the land, such as plants🍃 and minerals ⛰️. Playing a plant on a grass biome tile will result in a wheat plant, but playing a plant card somewhere else will also create something else. Try to experiment as much as you can!

Playing cards costs ✨ 'faith' ✨ that you gain from the humans when they periodically pray for you, or when you fulfill their wishes. One may wish for a berry bush and another for a deadly plague ☠️

One of the more important cards is the ⚗️ 'inspect' ⚗️ card. This card can be played on items, objects and sometimes just on empty tiles. The inspect card will trigger an invention that will help the humans explore your world further.

The way you shape the land and guide the humans will decide which way the humans will develop. They can go as far as to build a rocket! 🚀

The metagame

You can play Simmiland in 2 different modes:

  • Normal mode - your card deck is limited and you will find the apocalypse card at the bottom

  • Endless mode - you can play an endless amount of cards, but you won't get any achievements

In normal mode you will get achievements. Both achievements and progress will net you some in-game currency which you can use to buy new and more cards to fill your deck, giving opportunity to new possibilities.

Features

  • Quick, but relaxing, 10~60 minutes play per game

  • An alternative endless mode where you can shape the land into infinity

  • ~20 different cards

  • 13 different biome types

  • 30+ inventions to discover

  • 40+ different resources to discover

  • 20+ different achievements to find

If you've ever wondered how a loving God can allow such terrible things to happen on Earth, now you know: He ran out of cards. Apparently they're making Simmiland 2, and I'll probably give that a go. I like the concept and it's not terribly implemented, but ultimately I found this version quite frustrating. My experience went bad-good-bad: Bad - A game that's only supposed to be played for a few hours total should either be completely transparent or have a simple tutorial. Discovering different interactions and possibilities is obviously part of the fun, but having to stumble across important gameplay mechanics is definitely not. One crucial point that I missed for too long: the deck that you start with barely has enough cards to get you out of the stone age, and you are supposed to be adding new cards after each playthough via the 'card shop' in the main menu. I played through half a dozen times expecting to find a way to get more cards in-game before I noticed this. Good - Once you have a decent number of cards and get into the meat of the game, there's a few hours of good fun finding new technologies and watching your guys make use of them. Most of the interactions are quite intuitive, it's nicely paced, lots of cute touches - basically what you expect from a Sokpop game. However... Bad - At some point quite early on you will have unlocked all the cards and figured out most, but not all, of the important interactions you need to get your guys to the space age. At this point the game becomes tedious and frustrating. Some of the discoveries are obscure, and others are a pain to engineer even if you know them. The trial and error cycle becomes incredibly punishing, because an error means wasting key cards and losing half an hour of work. I'd love to have finished the game, but I got stuck on oil and batteries and I just can't face another playthrough to (maybe) figure them out. There are a few gameplay mechanics that might have added some depth, but they don't actually seem to work. Your card set: The full set is unlocked after a few playthroughs so the order you unlock them in is mostly irrelevant. You also take all your cards into every playthrough so there is no deckbuilding element at all. Faith & wishes: It seems like the faith loop is supposed to be the the core in-game mechanic, but I found that I almost always had far more faith than I needed, making the costs of the cards irrelevant. Mankind's nature: This is obscure - I wasn't sure how/whether I was supposed to be manipulating it, or what its impact was other than ruling out certain technologies. I'd recommend Stacklands instead, if you haven't already played that.

My only complaint is I wish it had a pause button. Otherwise it was a solid night of fun.

I have a hard time enjoying this game. After playing Stacklands, I was hopeful for another fun, crazy, and intuitive experience. But, it wasn't. I really tried to like it. For a game that is centered around experimentation and discovery, it does both in a way that is always more frustrating than exciting. My frustrations just continued. I didn't understand how anything worked, even after making something work repeatedly. There was little guidance, and even less "tracking" of information, such as what's done in Stacklands with the recipe cards. This game could be good, but it isn't.

I'm very divided on this game. I went from yes to no to yes again. TL;DR review: Simmiland is very short, addictive, and fun. If it connects with you, you will get your money's worth if you paid the full $5. --------------non tl;dr stuff------------- Having played more, some of my older complaints turned out to be wrong. I thought the last buildings your civ makes serves no purpose and there's no satisfying end if you get that far. It turns out this isn't true. The very last card ends the game. If you built the time space warp, your people do escape and survive. The only problem I've found with Simmiland is sometimes the AI is a little too dumb or buggy. Sometimes your civ will never build a building they're smart enough to make and you've made a discovery for. Its rare, but the market sometimes never gets built for me. Then there are other buildings/ that require certain terrain features (oil refinery, smelter, sulpher deposit) that won't be built unless the surrounding tiles are correct. And your stupid civ will mess it up by building roads and you can't do anything to remove or destroy them (AFAIK). Also, I can't tell if this is a bug or your civ is programmed to be stupid, but there's an issue with clothing. I'll have plenty of cloth, and clothes just don't get made. If I have a snow tile with a tree in it, the AI keeps sending naked guys to chop it down who all freeze to death. Then they'll build a house next to it that will also cause a bunch of people to freeze to death. Other than that, again, Simmiland is a short fun game.

My review: Do i like it? Yes Its Fun? Kinda, endless mode is for me,could have few changes Its Worth it? No full price, buy during discount Gameplay, Not much to it, Cards & small Board ,use the cards to do things you need learn what does what and remember all since you have limited time to do it in the right order Things i'd change: -Starter land is sometimes too small ,you can use sun to expand but not enough for some RNG islands(casual) -Set a boundary for materials to get deleted or stop going farder beyond what we can observe or a way to delete(casual/endless mainly) -Priority for pick ups, they keep dying (no food or random thing) yet they have food to pick -Evil (which is so dam random) population always dies, its a soft lock, make it special like two sides war or cult, whats the point if you loss. MAKE IT FUN -Easier Biome edit for Endless . priority block or some setting

Is this fun for a few hours? Sure. It's not bad for $2.50 on sale (or even $5 full price). But: (1) Everything I enjoyed about this game, I've played other games that do it better. (2) There are enough minor problems that I don't recommend adding it to your library. The game is best played in the default mode, where a round of gameplay is short enough to avoid the worst design problems. In short, this is what the game was designed for. My biggest complaint here is the UI jitter, especially the menu screen text and end-of-session mouse. Endless mode lets you continue playing so long as you have currency to spend on cards, so after ~30-60 minutes you run into design issues with: biome management; lag; running out of space; inconvenient building placement; and item litter. If you're looking for this experience, I recommend something like Rise to Ruins.
