So far, its ok... I would only recommend to buy so you can support the developers so they can make it better. (Update) No hate towards the developers what so ever! I like the concept but it lacks a lot even for early access. Graphics are nice, runs quite well for an early access game however, character movement is a bit clunky. I know this game will get better with time! This is why I have written a list of what I think could really improve gameplay. Mainly because I want to see this game so well! These are the things that are bugging me already. 1. No Voice Actors? No voices? Makes the game boring and feels like I am talking to walls... Would help to give the npc's a bit of character? Why not add in voices??? 2. When handcrafting a weapon, why do I have to constantly go into my bag to then place it into the inventory? There is a huge amount of slots, why doesn't it just replace the place of which my last tool broke? 3. There is no real guidance with the building, it tells you to build something then you have to rummage through the build menu to find what you have to build. 4. a quick build option would be nice, like what they have in med dynasty, no one wants to wait five minutes to build a house. 5. Bland & Boring, you find the music repetitive along the interactions. Not much in terms of engagement? Storms? Bad weather? 6. No option to steal off other villages and do little rpg touches, alongside pretty much no leveling system. I will be back to continue to add to this....

I will say I like the game! There are not many open world Japan based games that are made in UE5. So I will give my pros and cons and not give it a negative review like the tw a ts down below while its in its first hours of EARLY ACCESS release! Pros: Open world japan game Game looks beautiful It's survival Has building mechanics It's got some combat Coop Cons: It has some little bugs that I'm sure will get fixed Performance is not the greatest I play on a 3060ti with all epic settings on 30-50fps To go along with that I figured out shadow's is the biggest issue with performance as I turned it down I got 60+ No voice acting is pretty annoying The free UE5 movement animations gotta go Now for some stuff I want in the game! Climbing so I can climb mountains and get on top of buildings Hopefully some bigger battles Better movement animations Mounts Basically anything that will make the game even more enjoyable! EDIT: just had a weird experience with the game!!!! so i just booted up my pc and did not launch the game or even click on it and my pc was super slow and laggy. so like any person would i checked my task manager and sure enough the game was hogging my memory even though it wasnt launched so out of curiosity i checked my defender and for some odd reason my memory integrity was turned off even though i have not touched a single thing in there. Has anyone else experienced this? Feel free to comment!

100% this game worth the Hype!! Planning on pouring many hours into this game. I'll update my review at 100 hours played!

To begin with, ignore the vast majority of comments here. People who play an Early Access game for 0.5 hours and then go to write a review are very very suspect, to say the least. Now, as for Sengoku Dynasty! Superkami have absolutely done their homework. The game is firmly set in a background that takes you to Japan of the 16th century. The lore feels believable and in-game you find the same attention to detail. This is promising! Also the fact that co-op is in the game from the start and is working mostly fine, that's also well done! I will continue to update this review as development progresses but I am absolutely hopeful so far. At this point, I won't even go into detail of what's missing, bugs and lack of polishing. It's the first day of Early Access, keep that in mind. The game is playable, even though performance needs a lot of work, I've not had any crashes or gamebreaking bugs so far. I am excited by the premise of this game and I am willing to remain patient and follow the development!

Ohayo! This game is so much fun. I've barely scratched the surface, yet it seems so much more a realized world than Medieval Dynasty, not the least of which is the MASSIVE map. If you like Medieval Dynasty, you'll love this game. And hey, it takes place in Feudal Japan!!! The world, architecture and atmosphere are top notch. The story and game elements need their final fleshing out, but as it stands, this is a superb game! Wakarimaska? Don't worry about running out of trees, there are enough in this map to build several Eiffel towers! Grab everything off the ground, craft craft craft! This is the most fun I've had since I got my hands on Valheim! I can't wait to see the rest of the build, and perhaps the ability to build your village anywhere without depending on the missions to choose where you live. Go buy this game now! ISOGI!! BANZAI!!

i would hold off on buying this for now , it is in an early access stage of development, but i mean early early stages. currently not much content. built almost 70% of whats possible in just 7 hours. it feels bland and boring . no voice acting . very rough performance , goes from 60 frames down to 14 and nothing has happened to cause it . needs a lot more optimising to keep a steady frame rate. tested both on ultra and low settings and both give unstable frame rates that for no reason just tank down to nothing. there are quite a few positives though and was a pretty good almost 7 hour session. games got a good future if the devs can push out some well needed patches soon to fix some AI but mostly performance issues. i'll almost certainly be making this a positive review after a few updates but as for now its not as enjoyable with the minor bugs and lack of content, but that's the downside to diving into early access on day 1.

put 10 hours in the first day, and i must say i loved it. most bad reviews are performance issues. its early access so i can see that, but i had no issues at all. so i imagine if you have are running it on a potato you may want to hold off. either way, the game itself is great! the world is well thought out, and the characters are interesting and there is meaning behind what you are doing. the complaints i have are with the villager gathering system. you send someone out to collect logs, you dont get them until the season change (2-5 in game days). that is the dumbest system ever and makes no sense. i need them logs! either way, the other systems work pretty well so far. had a few bugs and a few what is happening moments. npc's glitching into buildings etc. its EA. Anyway I LOVED medieval dynasty so this will get me thru until the new MD update drops.

    Preface

I wish I could make a mixed review, because while I really like this game, I can't recommend it to everyone right now. If you got into Medieval Dynasty late, or never played Medieval Dynasty, and are expecting an Early Access game that's been through some patch cycles, this game isn't for you just yet. If you haven't played Medieval Dynasty yet, I would go play that game first and see if you enjoy this style of game before trying Sengoku Dynasty. There is a lot more to do in Medieval Dynasty right now, and you'll be able to get a better feel for the genre. I went ahead and bought this game because I really enjoyed the evolution over time that Medieval Dynasty experienced (and continues to experience) as an early access game, and I trusted that I would enjoy it just as much with Sengoku Dynasty. With how much I use Medieval Dynasty as a reference point, I will be shortening it to MD from here-forth for brevity.
Graphics This game is gorgeous for first Early Access release. I mean, it's classic Japanese country. You would have to actively try to screw it up. It doesn't really seem to be terribly taxing on my GPU, but my CPU sure is getting a workout. I've noticed there seems to be some bugs with CPU threads getting stuck or over-allocated or something, as my CPU utilization will skyrocket until restarting the game, but these don't happen very often. I imagine both CPU related points will be addressed in optimization passes. I do wish that the HUD scaling was adjustable, as I think some of the HUD elements are a bit too big and intrusive; particularly the quest objective element and the item descriptions when targeting items in the world. The item descriptions themselves are very welcome when getting started, as they provide a lot of useful information about how to interact with the world, but as I get more experience with the game I imagine I'm going to want to be able to turn them off completely. The weather effects are BEAUTIFUL. Rain and rain sounds stop when occluded by rocks. Lightning illiuminates the rain around it. The rain pitter patters on the ground look really nice.
Gameplay Let me start by saying the map is HUGE. I wish I had exact measurements to back up my claims, but it seems like the map is about twice as big as MD's map, at least. Most everything here is what you expect coming from MD. The game starts out as pure crafting survival until you start recruiting villagers, and then it becomes part crafting-survival and part civilization-management. Villagers can automate your daily tedium, but they have needs of their own, which you'll have to fulfill yourself until you can get more villagers to automate that for you too. A few things have changed from MD though: Seasons aren't hard-stuck on a 3 day rotation like they were in MD. If you don't like a season, or did everything you wanted to, you can skip to the next season after 2 days. If you have a lot to do, you can spend as long as 5 days in a season. I like this a lot. Instead of producing and consuming products in real-time, like in MD, villagers instead consume and produce season by season. I really don't like this change as I don't see any impact from my villagers work until the next season. So far this is really my biggest complaint with the game. I'm hoping this is just temporary for the first Early Access release and that the real-time produce/consume mechanic will come back. Weight is no longer a restricting factor for inventories, including storage sheds (which was the primary reason for upgrading storage building tech in MD). Now inventory slots are all that matters. I like this change, and I want to see it fleshed out more. Right now there isn't a way to increase the amount of storage slots in a building, only build a new building; but using the new building furniture grid system, there is a whole avenue available to natively upgrade building storage, either with more storage chests or better ones. Villagers no longer have proficiency levels, instead their efficiency is based on the quality of their tools and (like MD) their happiness. I'm neutral on this. It's removed some of the RPG elements, but at the same time I found it really annoying to run around the MD map looking for a villager that just happened to have slightly above average skill in the profession I needed. Better tools in MD also only felt like a slight improvement (for villagers), in that it just meant they consumed less tools over time and freed up some production in the line. So in one way or another better tools mean better productivity in both games, but its just more apparent in Sengoku. Villager needs can be adjusted like taxation rate in a Total War game. Right now there's only two levels of "need taxation", but you can allow your villagers to consume more food and drink in order to give them a happiness bonus. Another good mechanic that I'd like to see expanded on, particularly a setting that leaves your villagers disgruntled (rather than angry when they have no food/water), but consume supplies at a reduced rate.
Closing Thoughts There were some things I wanted to address briefly before I finished that didn't really merit a whole bullet point (although I guess with small paragraphs in each bullet point they're not really bullet points anymore). The new building furniture grid is awesome. I really like being able to instantly place things in an organized and measured way; but for the people who want to go full Skyrim-modded-housing, there needs to be a way to disable it when placing clutter items inside houses. There also needs to be a way to re-reference tutorials that have already poppped up. The little drum sound that plays every time I craft an item is really cool, because it blends in as part of the music, but I feel like at some point I'm going to want the ability to turn it off. The shrines are awesome, and the whole folklore of the game is done really well. The boons given by the shrines are really helpful without being overpowering, and the offering items (so far) are simple enough to not be tedious. I love going and giving offerings to Inari. Overall there is a lot of love in this game, and the only reason I can't say 100% that you should buy it now is simply the fact that not everyone has the patience to watch an early access game grow from the start. Medieval Dynasty has been on a long road, and this game will be too, but it will be worth it. If you know what you're getting into, and you really really want to be in feudal Japan, then 1000% get this game.

Reviews aren’t my thing, but I enjoyed the game so much this early on that it deserves one. This is a job well done and I want to see that more often! While it is an Early Access game and some things are still missing/planned, I already found it very enjoyable and encountered no game breaking problems. The graphics are beautiful and so is the music. I really like the sounds as well. It shows somebody really cared and paid attention and that’s a really good sign to me. You can already build a nice village and follow several quests, gather, craft, fight bandits and wild boars (those are mean!), recruit NPCs – and there is co-op! The loading screen at the beginning can take a moment, but afterwards everything ran very stable and smooth for me. I had no crash and no noticeable frame drops. (I know some do, but for me that just wasn’t the case at all, and I don’t have a NASA PC. Maybe it’s an Unreal 5 thing?) I don’t know that much about Japanese history, but what is mentioned in the game makes me curious to learn more about the real events. All in all, this already is a game I love and I’m far from done exploring all of it. On day two of early access! From a new developer, not AAA! This is not common. Or maybe more common here than for the big ones now? Go, show them! The map is big as well and you can go everywhere. There are different villages with people to talk to and quests and different bioms. I can’t wait so see what more is to come! The roadmap looks promising!

I wrote a review that basically said that I like where the game is going. Which is true. However, I cannot give this a thumbs up and tell anyone they should purchase at this time. Too many things do not work. I built a well that doesn't work. I built 3 houses and no one wants to join. I built support buildings and no one wants to work. I don't understand why this game was released, even early access. It's not ready. I do like the concept and I am ready for it to work and play, but, really disappointed. Going on the shelf until it's fixed!!
