  I feel like this should be RF 8.5. Yeah there are a few new planes but most are the exact same ones as rf8. Even the fields are all the same. The only real nice feature is the training videos. I would not spend the $99 for a copy if you already have rf8. This could of been let out in a new upgrade pack.

  Total rip off for existing owners. It's the exact same piece of software as RF8 with a handful of new planes and Eli Field. I would gladly pay for the DLC - and even at a fairly high price given it's a niche market - but to charge full price again is unconscionable. However, if you are yet to pick up a sim - it's well worthwhile.

  I am a Remote Control Fixed Wing pilot and from experience I find the RealFlight products are the next best thing to actually being on the field. Without RealFlight, training to fly real RC aircraft would have taken a lot longer. I have read some of the negative reviews here and all I can say is that the people writing them may be buying this product as a game and not using it as it was intended to be used, as a real world RC simulator and have not configured the interface to imitate real world conditions. I have owned earlier version of this software since I started flying RC aircraft and to be truthful, thanks to Realflight I have probably saved thousands of dollars when it comes real aircraft. With the models available through the years and by setting the environment to real world conditions with real world glitches, I have been able to test fly aircraft I have thought about buying and test them in the environment to see how they handle on a controller and see if I really want to buy them. I can also prepare flight routines for competitions and test them on aircraft I intend to fly to see if the aircraft can withstand stresses of the routine without breaking apart and fly the routine multiple times to get better at it in an environment that should I slip up, it isn't going to cost a grand or two on a real plane when it noses into the ground. I do feel that the product is over priced on Steam, especially since it doesn't come with a Controller. Thankfully the Interlink (Elite) Controllers I have from the previous versions still work quite well with RF9, so I didn't have to rush out and spend another $89(US) on a controller. My only experience with Realflight has been standing or sitting in front of a flat screen, but now with VR support, I can't wait to test it out in a VR environment on my Vive to see if the immersion will give me that Real Field experience that earlier versions lack.

  Things I like: - The physics engine. - The InterLink controller(s). Things I dislike: - Its lack of noteworthy new features between major versions. - Its old-fashioned business model, not being able to upgrade at reasonable pricing. - The lack of a "buy-once for lifetime upgrade/update/support" policy, unlike competing rc flight sims. - Its lack of new industry relevant/popular models (it feels like one big E-flite commercial atm). - Its outdated low resolution photo flying fields. - Having to use the Swap Pages to search / install custom models, rather than having in-sim accessibility. - Loading and/or exiting of custom 3D airfields can easily crash the sim. - When importing models/schemes, DDS file creation process is really slow. - Custom models being installed having absolute file paths in config files (*.bse and *.colorscheme files), meaning it's not possible to quickly share multiple models with other people, without using the import function, or find & replace to change paths in multiple files (with for instance Notepad++). - Frame-rate sometimes suffers after having alt-tabbed during loading, only workaround being re-starting the sim. - No way to start/play fly-to-music files from within the sim. - There does not appear to be an option to reduce simulation speed (to help learn complex 3D maneuvers). - Controller dead-band percentage not 0% or near-0% by default. - Timestamp in chat/console not being enabled by default (on top of that, it's not even in the settings, but a console command/variable). - Chat message showing duration is really short by default, people miss multiplayer messages all the time (have to point out to people to change the defaults in the settings). - Inability to turn off multiplayer mid-air collisions (as a host and/or client). - Inability to disallow certain aircraft type(s) to be used in your multiplayer session (as a host). - Momentarily hanging when loading models during multiplayer sessions, whenever someone selects a different model, despite having the sim installed on a SSD. - There's an option to turn off simulation sounds in multiplayer, but at the moment, it does not seem to work. - Due to direct connections, your multiplayer client may sometimes not connect to all players in a session. When it attempts to connect, loading/connecting times will also be very long. - It has happened quite often in the past that Knife Edge's master server has gone down during the weekend, meaning no multiplayer sessions for anyone until Monday. - Field of View (aka zoom) is horizontally based, which is not with the times anymore. Particularly annoying when switching resolution/aspect ratio. Vertical based FOV is the norm these days. - Gadgets don't return to previous positions on screen, when changing from full-screen to windowed, there are no relative positions and/or snaps to center, top, bottom, left, right. - Sim doesn't adapt to desktop resolution changes for full-screen mode, having to manually change it in the settings. When swapping between multiple resolutions a lot, this is annoying (example: toggle between 5120x1440 or 2560x1440 dual screen mode on a 49" monitor). - Within Windows' Display Settings, under Scale and layout, when "Change the size of text, apps, and other items" is set to higher values than 100%, like 125%, the RF screen will get cropped in the bottom when it's running in full-screen mode. Tested in multiple resolutions. - At the time of this review, it's impossible to easily capture VR footage for non-VR streams and/or videos, because of RF's weird VR desktop monitor window behavior, which changes to (dual) eye povs whenever you put on your headset. Have to use some really weird OBS settings to capture one eye pov. I like the sim for its physics, but it really needs major changes and updates, to stay with the times. It would require some architectural changes. Unfortunately it might not give profitable return of investment, considering we're dealing with a niche market here. Average Joe who starts with RC flying, will probably still pick up the shiny box in the hobby store. But if no changes are made, it will be a question of time before the sim becomes obsolete, which will be a shame. In order for the sim to be recommended by hobby enthusiasts (the die-hard group), it should start cater to them again. If that box is ticked, it will basically market itself to all targeted groups.

  Way over priced. I came from using RealFlight 4.5 and the flying feels the exact same. The fleet of aircraft is also mostly the same as well. I expected to at least see some improvement after 5 major versions. The drones are really bad; why bother if your not even trying. If you want drones then buy DRL, or Liftoff or even FPV freerider; all of those are better by 1 billion times. Don't buy it.

  The VR experience is a total joke. It looks like this game is made with DirectX 9. This is 2021 and the fact that they want $70-100 for an extremely outdated engine is outrageous. The VR experience is totally worthless. You can't even see your RC plane if it is more than 20 ft. away because anti-aliasing is so atrocious. The VR performance is awful as well; Considering how lightweight this should be for modern gaming GPUs and CPUs it struggles to maintain a suitable framerate for VR. In non-VR mode I can get framerates at ~300fps at almost 4k resolution. This is so bad. DO NOT BUY if you plan to use in VR. In desktop mode, it's ok but way to expensive. You can't even specify an anti-aliasing level, so you're stuck with what looks like a LEGO plane when it's more than 30 ft away from you. The only nice thing is that the sim does feel accurate and you can choose from lots of planes. Those would be the only reasons to buy it, but it's still way overpriced in my opinion.

  110 Euros for 20 year old flight models, physics, graphics, wind sounds, gas engine sounds, electric engine sounds. Only reason I wanted this sim(if you can even call it that, gta planes have more realistic flight models), was because I can't go to the real thing anymore, so I wanted to experience that feeling that you get in real life, here but this is exact same real flight that my friend gave me around 10 years ago when I first started this hobby, literally no improvements

  This sim may seem expensive to some however it will save you thousands in broken planes/drones!! Awesome realistic SIM and once i went VR OMG!! love it!

  This game is based on a version of DX9 that is not supported by any 5000 or 6000 series of AMD video cards. Buyer beware.

  This game does not support being run on a brand new everything high end PC with AMD GPU. I have an AMD 6800XT, and my system is a rock solid top 5% benchmarked PC... no expense spared, and this game refuses to run. Reading other reviews it appears as though last supported game engine was DX9 (NOT supported by any modern AMD GPU). I spent $100 on this game on the basis that I really enjoyed a previous version many years ago. Very disappointed. I feel like I've been stolen from (that sick in my stomach feeling), relying on what I thought was a reliable game developer.
