While a lot of reviews seem to be quite positive, I don't think I enjoyed this as much. This expansion gave us base building and a bunch of new equipment to craft/find. However, my big issue is that despite this DLC giving us 'Barrier' (Which is like magical protection); it hardly gave any weapons or armor that is remotely useful for mages. Thus we're stuck with base game mage equipment (or rust lich from soroboreans DLC) The new monsters are unreasonably powerful imo. Their abilities and defenses really made a lot of nice builds just completely useless since they just chop through protection armor, so RIP melee heavy armor builds until you get some form of barrier. I found magic to be quite weak against them too. Unlike the base game where you could feel a real sense of power progression. ie. beating the crud out of bandits after getting some fresh new gear. I'm not quite seeing it in this DLC. Additionally, the monsters don't have very much of a clear telegraph for their attacks; but that's been a problem since this game was released. It's just exacerbated because they do an awful lot of damage, and/or cause statuses that can't be easily dealt with (and they have a really long duration. ie. petrification) Base building was a little out of left field for me, and it felt like the Devs just decided 'Here, you can help us world build!' Also the mechanics for building is awful; as said by my co-op partner. It'd be nicer if you just had a birds eye view of the map to build buildings, instead of having the run around and find out the floor is slightly not level enough for you to build there. Overall, unimpressed by that. As for exploration, there's still a lot of just emptiness to the world. Sure there's ruins and whatnot, but.. there's just nothing in them. No notes, no lore. Empty. As a loot goblin, it made me sad whenever I'd walk into a room with literally nothing, not even decor. Overall; I really didn't like this DLC, so I don't recommend it.

Won't recommend this for now, to actually advance in the storyline of this DLC you'll have to bite through a triple layer of RNG: Spawn location of harvest nodes, Type of node spawned and then type-specific reward. This is very annoying to the point of being insulting. Making quest progress dependent on RNG mixed with grind is just a terrible idea in a game that has a timer on every quest, scratch that, it's a terrible idea in any game, actually. Difficulty is insanely harsh, too. Not skill- but stat-wise: Expect to get wiped in one or two hits from most enemies if you're not close to 100% damage resistance (some enemies actually ignore 50% and a new status effect can set them to 0% for some seconds). Generally it feels rushed and most enemies just got insane stats instead of actually a well thought-out design, there's 10 meter AoEs that have a wind-up of less than a second, basically all ranged attacks ignore blocking, and most mid- to high-tier enemies just relentlessly keep spamming their attacks without any kind of cooldown, forcing you to either run an invincibility build or just go at it from range. All of this is really a shame, because Outward is one hell of a game. The new dungeons are way better than most stuff from the main game and the previous DLC, landscape design and variety also rock. The idea of getting some kind of settlement mechanic in is well executed apart from the previously mentioned issues, it's a money-sink and requires thoughtful planning and unlocks interesting new items, vendors, a quick travel option and new build options. Most of the glaring issues in this DLC can be easily fixed by adjusting numbers, let's see how responsive the devs are. Not recommended, would gladly change my review. edited for spelling.

I have Tsar armour, couldn't be killed by anything anymore, had earned my place as an influential and powerful character. Went to the new DLC area, was introduced to moonscape surroundings with beautiful music playing. Then I got insta-killed by a laser beam projected from a floating evil bag. I'm in for a good time.

A rather interesting way to get more fun with the game. Unlike previous DLC (The Soroboreans), this one doesn't add an alternative faction / route for the main game. Instead, it offers a way to continue playing after you'll be done with the main story. Don't expect a big new storyline, though. Instead of going deeper into Gothic, Nine Dots Studio decided to go deeper into survival genre. And as the result, instead of proper new adventure, we've got... city building... thingy. With quite a lot of grinding. You know how it is – collect the resources (the basic ones can be bought with your regular money, while the rare ones you're supposed to find in a hard way) and then build the stuff. Because reasons. Sounds boring, but you know what? It just works, it just wor... Ahem! Sorry. Wrong game. It really does kinda work here, though. The fact that you'll be limited by time kinda adds some spice (even though usually I dislike being on timer) and the storyline here also comes with five long quests (the main game had seven, but only four of them were real deal, while the rest felt more like a tutorial). Which are surprisingly fine (you'll deal with Djinn, charge the huge crystal that you'll carry on your back like freakin' Norman Reedus and so on). So, all in all, I must say that even though I would rather get more adventures than grinding, I actually ended up enjoying this DLC quite a lot. Maybe even more than I was supposed to. Yes, it's heavily focused on grinding and yes, the city building is quite basic and dull. But still, everything that was good about Outward is here and, like I said, it kinda... works. Actually, I felt really addicted here. Maybe even more addicted than I felt playing the main campaign. Anyway, you've got the idea. It's about (re)building the new city, it comes with a bunch of pretty long quests, there's quite a lot of grinding. You liked Outward as much as I did and don't mind such stuff? You should totally give this DLC a chance. You didn't like the main campaign much? There's actually a chance for this DLC to make things worse for you. Or, maybe, the opposite. Because, well, it's pretty different from what we had in the main campaign. Once way or another, it totally deserves a chance. Dixi.

I love the DLC, but I must say some things positive: -Game got harder so I have a use for my builds -building your city feels rewarding. -a lots of new enemies -ritualist and the new skills can used by a lots of builds -you need to adjust to the enemies(see people complaining about they do not make dmg with some builds) negatives: -not a single halfway good shield - bombs are not trash, but the blast radius/ timer is wierd -the special ressources for building are too rare and makes the game too gindy a bit( finished the story before I droped a single chromesplinter) -the city is empty as F at least they could made some npcs running aorund the buildings you build I like the dlc, but the world is a bit empty at some points, but IMO it is more postive then negative

Hey! You liked the base game and wanna get into the DLCs? :D Well, just don't. Not this one, chief. Let's start with the new region. The regions in this game are, overral, pretty well made so to be easy to understand and find yourself in relation to the map. But this one is really something. Caldera just looks dead. Its a grey sea with some ok-ish enemies here and there and some really confusing landscapes. I lost myself more then i would like and took quite some time to understand the overall layout, a problem that i did not have in any of the other regions. Had seen the base game, this one is a big No. The main quest. imma be honest, i don't really play outward for the lore - not really my taste, but at least they made some - but the main quest here is TIED to one of the worst city building mechanics ive ever seen, meaning you are OBLIGATED to do it. For starters, The cost to build the necessary houses/resource/specialized buildings is crazy, with each one costing from 2500 up to 5000 plus silver PLUS other *RARE* resources, which you can only get with a 6% drop chance from a node that has *RANDOM* *CHANCE* to spawn throughout the map. You will also have upgrade at least 2 of buildings to progress, with costs up to 8000 silver + Rare resouces. Upgrades which you'll have choose between 2 and upon construction can never be reverted. So, if you picked the dog shit one over the New Skill-teacher NPC upgrade, get fucked :) There is very little space for you to place your buildings the way you want with almost no wiggle room to make an actual decent looking city, so be smart with your placements because *THEY* *ARE* *PERMANENT* and the amount of buildings you can have is *LIMITED*. No destruction, No Replacement, No Refund. If you lose the god damn new Skill-Teacher NPC building you are fucked. At the end i'm proud to say that upon realising the shite i had stepped on to, i used the console commands to spawn gold ingots/The necessery resources to use on my city so i could finish it not hating the game and my experience was at the very leat ok :) but i still lost that little bitch skill-teaching NPC The Final Boss. This one is gonna be quick. Its Bad designed. For some reason they thought adding some 3d bullet-hell attack/mechanic would be ok with the bad camera locking this game have. And to top it all of, he is a damage sponge. HUGE health pool and lots of resistances. Good luck if you play close combat. A Boss spamming AoE/ the same skill thoughout the entire fight =/= challenge. But hey, they at least added one, something that i missed in the base game. The rest - dungeons, enemies, bosses, weapons, armors - can be argued. IMO they are pretty Doggy dog. Most of the new itens are locked behind a shitty low drop chance and some are not even close to being good - if you come across the one you use-. I did everything with my Manticore/Red Lady dagger, horror bow and Blue-white nobleman dress and did fine for the most part, so for me the enemies were just a big health bar punching bag. If you want more of this game and are looking for the DLCs, maybe try "The Soroboreans". This one is a pass. But if you really wanna see for yourself, just don't. buy a Big Mac with extra fries instead. or buy on sale, it's your money.

Literally the one game and DLC to inspire me to write a proper review. The Three Brothers is a clunky, albeit ambitious addition to what was already a sizable main game. But if there's anything I've learned about Nine Dots through my almost 200 hours and counting of Outward, it's that their ambition vastly overshadows their scope. After what was what I consider to be a very solid experience with their first DLC, The Soroboreans, I came in with high expectations. However, I'm left somewhat disappointed. Despite a creative and expansive world and enemy design added within the new map of Caldera, the experience is heavily bogged down by resource management in the form of New Sirrocco (It's Sheer-ah-koh, guys, not Seer-ih-koh). In any other well budgeted and well manned open world RPG, I'd call this a genius move. After all, it asks you to use your now abundant income and knowledge by this point in the game to build a central hub the way *you* want it with the promise of powerful rewards. Unfortunately it becomes rapidly apparent that it's held back by poor design decisions that at this point I suppose isn't unexpected from this studio. Over-reliance on RNG for rare resources that can take hours and precious in-game time to find in the first place and a clunky town grid that, while huge, is surprisingly restrictive in where you can place your facilities. Surely that second part would be fine if they just let you remove or relocate a building right? I feel this should have been a very obvious inclusion, but alas, we are forced with permanent choices on building placements. As a personal gripe, I feel the drip feed of armor and weapon upgrades can mean most encounters are a daunting task, resulting in the good old "find loot, sell loot" loop to feel rather bothersome and very much a chore. This only makes the time limit more pressing, as dying could mean losing several days of time better spent gathering resources. All of this led to me dropping the entire thing. If this DLC was not tied to the Definitive Edition upgrade, I would truthfully say it isn't worth your time. Enjoy the base game and the first DLC, but don't feel guilty over skipping this one.

Base game is good, sorobeans is good, this dlc is trash. The main quest line is placing a building and waiting weeks of in game time. and after you do that you get to do it again and again but for even longer. Don't waste your time with this dlc.

All the negative points in other reviews are still viable, Enemies are quite powerful from start to finish, there's no gear progression that will make it easier for you to deal with it, which is not certainly a bad thing, it keeps fights interesting and challenging The final story boss though is just not difficult but unfair which doesn't make the final fight a very fun experience. (I do like challenging boss fights but this boss is just not very well designed) The bombs / grenades you can throw do not explode on impact but after a timer which only really works on slow enemies or enemies that are not aware of your presence, so I never ended up using them With the 2nd quest you will start building up the city, to speed things up you can invest your own silver to get funds / building materials and food for the city. After you purchased and placed down the building you will have to initialize the building process, which can take up several ingame weeks, and after that you will have to initialize the 2nd building phase (just why?) but you can "help with building" and skip 7 days ahead as often as you like, which will also reset all the dungeonloot Be aware that building placement is final and can be a pain For example: standing on a little rock will not allow you to place the building since it is now hovering You should build more important buildings like the city hall and traders at the city entrance for ease of access. Since building takes a long time you probably will go out adventuring and clearing all the available dungeons, from that point onwards there's nothing new except for the story that is being told, but the story is always locked behind "we need to have this many buildings and this many specialized buildings" For specialized buildings you will need rare items that are purely rng based and some of them are a lot more rare than others Buildings are expensive but the devs put in the new "glas weapons" that get you 600 - 750 silver a piece and there's a high chance of getting them from ornate chests Thus in order to progress the city I spent most of my time in the DLC with my movement-speed set + marathon potion skipping all enemies running from dungeon to dungeon and picking up all that sweet sweet loot to sell it, offer all my silver to that greedy city and skip 7 days just to have the dungeons filled with more loot ( I never cleared the whole map but I'd assume you can make between 8000 - 9000+ silver if you would in one go, if the traders had enough silver that is ) In the old city there's some lore to discover and we have one creepy dungeon apart from that the only interesting dungeon is the Ark - a ship that changes position on the map every few days and has different access levels There's a new enemy type the Calygrey, it would have been interesting to find lorebits about them (we only learn a little bit of their lore during the main quest) and maybe also find more lore on the Giants, they are present on the map (friendly village) but not noteworthy The outside world feels empty, there's some ruins but no lore to it, same with our city no matter how many buildings you set up, it will stay empty I liked the weapons that I had to restore to their full power, but the new gear in this DLC does nothing to improve our powerlevel The DLC was fun at first but lost it's appeal really quick only thing keeping me going was the story, I picked it up on a sale, but wouldn't recommend paying full price
