About the Game

In this original mix of Dungeon Management and Roguelite, you will lead your career as a Dungeon Manager!

Features

  • Join the Dungeons Company and climb the corporate ladder

  • Crush so-called "heroes" and protect the company's treasures

  • Hire monsters, manage your employees and your stock of traps

  • Deal with employee strikes and other fun events

RogueDefender

Each run will be different but players will keep some of their Master's bonuses between runs. Like we've already mentioned, our game is a mix between Roguelite and Dungeon Management. How did we achieve that? By running many tests to find the perfect balance between management and dungeon phases!

Dungeon Phase

First, you will have to plan your defense against a group of adventurers. Check their stats and resistances, then place the best traps and monsters to defeat them! When you think your dungeon is ready, let the crawl begin!

You will then be able to watch those heroes die! It's a reversed dungeon crawler: heroes will move through your dungeon and will trigger the traps you placed. When a group of adventurers encounters a group of monsters you positioned in your dungeon, a turn-based fight will happen!

Games/Series that inspired us:

HeroQuest (Board Game), Naheulbeuk (French audio series), Kaamelott (the best French series), Monty Python (English series).

Video games: Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire, Dungeon Keeper, Final Fantasy, Divinity, For the King, Chroma Squad, Battle Brothers, West of Loathing and so many more...

Ok, so I don't usually do this but I honestly want to yank this game out of mixed because literally almost all of the people complaining and not recommending this game say the same things over and over again mostly because I feel they bought a game they didn't understand. 1. It lacks replayability: (IT DOES NOT) Straight up I can say this is false, there are multiple artefacts, traps, dungeon masters, monsters,to pick from not to mention the different heroes you're up against. How does it feel repetitive? It's not. You always get a different mix everytime you play depending on the choices you make and as with any rouguelite you MAKE DO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE. There's also a skill tree per master, promotion sets to choose from for each master and special rare star traps and monsters like seriously? ya'll are straight up lying with those reviews. 2. Difficulty (ITS SUPPOSED TO BE HARD) Heroes are always stronger than the bad guys. They're supposed to beat you up and kill you, you just do you best with what you have to slow them down and consider it a special victory stopping them before they reach your master. 3. It's a roguelike (YES, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN) Like complaining the game is repetitive for a roguelike/lite really grinds my gears. It's supposed to be! You always try to do your best, to go as far as you can, lose and then come back a little stronger, play to RNGesus that you get better stuff, make better decisions and hope for the best. This is a roguelite first and foremost and I think people expect this to be a dungeon-maker sim type game and its really not. This game is really fun, worth a try. The only gripe I honestly I have with it is the voice acting but like that's really about it.

I REALLY tried to like this game, and overall would say I had a fun time, but there are enough factors that in accumulation makes Legend of Keepers feel very disappointing. Before getting into the long list of bad, there are some good aspects: - The game has a fair amount of content, taking around 30-50 hours for 100% completion and 100 total hours if you wanted to do all that and max the skill tree of all characters including DLC. - The pixel art style for the game works great. - It is an interesting twist on being the antagonist in a game. - The game still seems to be in somewhat active development. One thing that made me get the game is they recently added a dragon/bird typing to the game that all classes can use. For the most part, that is where the good ends. While I do want to list out all the bad, there is one things I saw a lot that made me get the game. It is from a lot of people comparing Legend of Keepers to things like Slay the Spire and Darkest Dungeon. If you liked either of those two games for their difficulty, Legend of Keepers is NOT for you. This comparison is one of the most misleading I have seen, as the game plays a lot more like a casual auto battler or a casual tower defense than it does a hardcore turn based strategy game. Luckily I like all of those genres, so it wasn't that big a deal for my overall enjoyment, but looking back there is nothing more misleading than saying something like "Legend of Keepers is like Darkest Dungeon if you got to build the dungeon.". Now for the ultra long list of bad that I hope the semi active development of the game would eventually address, but some of them are so core to the game itself that they may be beyond fixable: - Difficulty is WAAAY too easy. On normal you can basically just spam click the screen to win. The amount of power the player has compared to the enemy feels like an auto battler if you just spent $10,000 on micro transactions vs free to play players. With hard enabled, it is barely any more challenging. Ascension 20 is a joke and feels like what ascension 1 should have been. Endless mode is so easy to keep going that boredom will kill you before the difficulty ever does. This game seems to be targeted at a really casual audience, but what I don't understand is why the harder modes aren't actually hard. Out of every game I have ever played with an ascension system, none have disappointed more than Legend of Keepers. Ascension 20 is easier than setting all options to the hardest possible option in the story missions, has a weird 'negative' artifact that is often more of a benefit due to it commonly getting sold or exchanged during an event, and overall does barely anything to increase the challenge or strategy required to play the game. - The game feels like a casual auto battler without an auto battle button. Even on ascension 20, I found myself often mash clicking the screen mindlessly as so few decisions matter or make much of an impact on a run. I would say about 10% of the player's input matters, whereas the rest could just be automated. If you had a bot randomly determine every action, it is likely good enough to beat ascension 20 as there are so few things it could do wrong as most choices barely matter. - A lot of weird UI choices. While this may be a bit nit picky, there is one that is so blatant that I do not understand how it even got out of early access with it still in the game to this day. When presented with the page where you choose and save your file, there is a big red button that has the word "Delete" with two other words that do other stuff. This is good. This very clearly shows a menu where there is a button you SHOULD NOT press with 2 other buttons that you can press. It is laid out with all 3 horizontally next to each other. This is how the player is introduced to this format. So what is the problem? If you go to the options menu during a run, it has the same 3 horizontal button format with each one doing something. One of them is extremely important, as the button gets you out of the settings menu. There is a problem though. None of them are red. The bigger issue is that the "Abandon Run" button IS NOT red. This game is so easy that I legitimately have more deaths as a result of accidentally hitting the non red "Abandon Run" button when trying to get out of the settings menu than I have to actual deaths. - Price of the game is too high. Counting just the base game and the current 1 content DLC, the game comes out to $26 USD. This is quite the ask for what the game is. It feels much more like a $5 or $10 game than a $26 game. I got this game for $12 with DLC around $3 during the most recent sale bringing it up to around $15. During that same time, something like Slay the Spire was only $10. Legend of Keepers pricing is just way out of its league for what it offers. - Email required to unlock the full game. Currently, one unit is locked behind joining their email list. Honestly, this alone is worth leaving a negative review, as this is a practice that should be shamed and discouraged out of existence. I was originally going to leave a positive review with most of its content still criticizing the game, but remembering this aspect is the main reason this review is specifically negative marked with Steam's all in yes/no system. Despite me paying for the base game and the dlc, I still don't own the full game experience due to this. - Gameplay is way too predictable. After about 10 or so hours of playing, a player would essentially know most to all the tricks the game will throw their way. Beyond this point, the game becomes extremely structured with no amount of luck in the current state of the game getting in the way of a multitude of various strategies that can be used to win. A player essentially has to deliberately try to sabotage their run and nearly try to lose to add challenge to the game due to the lack of it that it presents once you have all the game knowledge understood. This is a massive issue with the core difficulty scaling in the game, as the only real challenge that can be achieved within the game is challenge added by the player. The game does not have a proper way to present difficulty and play normally, as the player has to create it theirself by doing things that aren't optimal on max difficulties to present an artificially increased difficulty that the game does not currently provide on its own. Due to this, the first 10-20 hour are the best. - Monster moral system seems needlessly pointless. The moral system in the game is probably one of the weirdest core mechanics within the game. For casual players, it will just annoy them because they keep having to bench their units. For hardcore players it just causes the game to be played in an extremely unhealthy way for the game's fun aspect. There are a lot of weird things that can be done to mitigate the moral system such as bounty debuffs that heal moral, units that can't lose moral, placing units only in the 2nd monster room to mitigate moral loss, putting meat shield units in the 1st room that aren't needed and then just power load the 2nd room, among many other strategies. This often leads to 0 moral loss on any units or at least 0 moral loss on any units that matter. This causes an issue, as a lot of the 'management' in the game outside of combat is based around moral. Random events and specific things like the therapist are also based around this. This leads to a lot of gameplay at a high level being completely invalidated due to just completely bypassing the moral system with good gameplay understanding. A weird combination of having to actively go out of one's way to address the moral system then getting a bunch of useless options to heal it just makes for a weird combination that does not feel satisfying. The rest of the review is in the comment section below as Steam seems to have a character limit to how long a review can be and this review has just hit that max cap.

I would recommend this BUT only if you either love playing as evil characters or if you can grab it on discount. The main issue I have with the game is that it seems to be that there's pretty much 1 optimal strategy, That being the strong and the easiest. That Strat is to stock up on a whole bunch of monsters so you can defend against the different element types, and for damage basically stack as many different AOE debuffs to enemies as possible (Bleed, Poison, Armor Down, Ice, Burn, etc.). I did play around with trying some other things that I thought might be fun, but they seemed far less effective, for example leveling a few monsters to their max level (Level 4) so they're nice and strong, which you would think would work rather well but if they're countered by an element they will still die very easily, and can be made unavailable by non combat missions. from other reviews you can probably tell there's a bit of an issue with player choice, this is what I've observed when playing: /// 1. You need a variety of monsters pretty evenly upgraded /// - this is because you don't know what type of enemies you will face until you start a level, - Nor can you choose the layout of the dungeons (the positioning of traps and such). - There is also an enemy type that you will sometimes get that randomizes the order of your first team of monsters, again meaning that the best strategy is to have an "all rounder" team since you won't know your up against him until the start of the battle/level. - Even if you fully upgrade a monster it can still easily be killed or made unavailable, so you can't really choose to spec into specific monsters. /// 2. There's Few traps that are optimal /// - There are specific traps like one that does heavy fire damage the back enemy, but why use that when there's ones that will do AOE Damage with AOE Armor Down, or AOE Bleed. - As a result you end up just using the same 2 or 3 traps that you've upgraded because it's way safer to use them, since they're unlikely to be countered, especially by all 3 enemies. /// 3. Most of the Skill Tree Upgrades do very little /// - You can level up the different Masters/Bosses and give them different skills, but almost all of these are things like "units do 20% extra moral damage", "start with a Skeleton Dog monster", or "30% chance to gain Rage when a Monster Dies", - From those examples you can see that they are helpful upgrades, but there's very few that actually change how you would play that Master (NOTE: The 5 Current Masters in the game are quite varied though, each having a different skill tree, so that's a big Plus for me.) /// 4. You Can't Really Build Rogue-like/lite Hype Moments /// - With these types of games you can usually end up with some sort of crazy build, that usually happens due to your strats mixed with lucky drops/items - This doesn't happen very often in this game since everything seems to be designed around having a balanced team, sometimes you get a cool moment because of your team setup but nothing on the level of other games in this genre or similar ones. I'm going to stop rambling now. Conclusions: I'm not sure if the Devs know exactly what direction they want to take the game in, it's got Rogue-like elements, RPG elements, Tower Defense elements, etc, But it seems that the end result is that they can't let you make many interesting decisions since it may break the games balance? does a game really to need to do that when it's already 50% Luck in the first place? Why bother with all these interesting gameplay systems if you don't want me to Spec into any of them? I know it sounds like I hate the Game but I don't, It's just frustrating to see a game that could be an absolutely amazing, but because of a few design and balance decisions you end up with something that's closer to a 6/10 instead of a 10/10.

There's a disappointing lack of depth to the whole experience. I rather foolishly purchased it after playing the 'prologue' version, assuming the devs would continually be adding to the very 'bare bones' framework the game offered, but that seems to have remained pretty much untouched - it feels like a 'free to play' mobile game, and the addition of numerous subsequent DLC packages only serve to reinforce that feeling. It lacks 'meaningful choices', there are no real options for a diversity of strategies, and the progression system is stale and uninspiring.

Having purchased the game originally expecting it to be fleshed out and added onto, I can no longer recommend this game. Having reached its final DLC. Legend of Keepers has frankly done nothing to earn a recommendation. The base game itself functions perfectly fine as a quirkly card based tower defense strategy. However the only thing each major patch/DLC has added is a reskin of the base units and attributes, contributing absolutely nothing to the overall structure of gameplay. If the game appeals to you, I recommend waiting for a later package bundle and picking it up at roughly 20% value. You may get as many as ten to twenty hours of gameplay out of it! Yet frankly I'd advise looking for something more creative and interesting.

Currently on the second campaign and I am sorry but I do not see anyone's issues with this game. If you like card games like Boss Monster, then basically ignore all reviews and buy this game. This is yet another example of me wasting so much time putting faith into reviews that just don't add up to reality. I picked this up on sale and had it wish listed for a while. For the price of a premium IPA beer at the bar, pretty damn good investment. In this game you stop the heroes from stealing the treasure in your dungeon. If you actually use strategy, you can outwit most heroes by either scaring them enough to force them to run away, or beat them into submission through force. BOTH win types are fun and rewarding if you plan correctly. However, you can only plan so much.. because certain elements and the order in which you place traps and monsters are randomly assigned. Personally I think we all owe it to ourselves to take a hard look at the reviews and filter the garbage feedback from the valid. This is yet another game I've encountered that deserves much more credit than it is given. P.S I've encountered 2 bugs that do not impact the game. Occasionally the game hangs up after placing all traps and monsters when the game moves to the "master" screen prior to starting a match. Simply exit to main menu and return and the problem is solved. The other bug occasionally showed the Master's health higher than it was originally. This didn't affect game-play and resolved itself after one match. I will be checking out your next title, thanks for the great game.

Extremely tedious game without any kind of depth. Everything is always the same, battles are so short (2-3 rounds x group) that it doesn't even matter how you develop your minions or your strategy. Nothing comparable to similar games as Darkest Dungeon and Iratus. It would be slightly better with an higher focus on minion's battle and longer matches. I've just played randomly on hard difficulty for 7hrs and I've never lost.
