About the Game

A Realistic Survival Game set in the 1850's

Experience raw, real survival in the Pacific. Collect resources and build a modular raft. Learn and master realistic sailing mechanics with different difficulty levels. Build a shelter to protect you from the challenging Pacific-like weather and seasons. Hunt for food, craft tools and weapons, build a sundial to determine the time of the day, use the sextant to find out your global position, and draw your map from scratch using the triangulation method. Explore the endless world based on islands and island clusters. Simulate real-life scenarios and learn how to survive in the wild Pacific!

Build a modular raft from scratch and explore the full area of the real Pacific. You can build a raft with just a captain’s cabin on it or you can go crazy and build a survival floating base with chests for storage, drying racks for food preservation, sleeping arrangements, item holders and so on. The decision is yours. The realistic sailing mechanics enable you to learn how to sail. You can start with the beginner-friendly easy mode and switch to a more advanced one once you mastered your raft.

Scavenge the waters and surrounding islands for clues and items. Find out the time of the day by building a Sun Dial. Find a piece of paper and a compass to draw your map from scratch using the Triangulation method. If you’re ready to explore new island clusters, find a Sextant and off you go into the unknown!

Weather data from the real Pacific is implemented in the game. With up to 27 different weather factors the player can simulate a plethora of realistic scenarios: Hot, cold, dry, windy, calm and many more combinations. The in-game weather (wind, temperature, rain etc.) and seasons are based on the day of the year and the actual latitudinal position of the player on the global map. Items can get wet, and while wet wood is perfect to smoke food, it can be deadly when the player is suffering from starvation and can’t light up a fire. Everything is dynamic in this game. While the strong wind is perfect for sailing, it can cause the rain to fall at an angle and reach the inside of a building through a window.

Build, craft and cook with the help of blueprints in three simple steps: Place the desired blueprint, add the required resources and finalize it by either using a tool (hammer) or by placing it on a cooking spot (in case of a recipe). Build complex structures on land or your raft and stay alive by cooking a delicious meal.

Where to begin on this one. This is a game I have had on my wishlist for quite some time now. Excited to see it finally drop a few weeks ago. Yesterday I fired it up and after a few hours of play and was honestly a little frustrated. Frustrated to the point where I almost gave it a not so good review, I held off and put it down. I had remembered that this game is in Early Access and a true attempt to make this work was important. So today, I gave it that second shot. That being said, here are my pros, cons, and annoying bugs: Pros: -Straightforward crafting: Easy to understand, Clean window for selections. -Simple controls: Not too complex and easy to adapt to. -Building flexibility: Able to craft essentially everywhere and anywhere. -Adequate resources: Plenty of resources for food, water, base, or anything else you desire even with bugs (see bugs). -Overall appearance: Clean graphics and textures. -Map. Starting with a map and compass and the ability to use intersection methodology to determine location of other islands. - Potential: The most important Pro. Cons: - Hitbox: Needs adjusted. Hitting fronds at the complete opposite end of log. Small window to chop logs. - Fires: Last roughly 1 minute so have food ready if you wish to cook it. Cannot seem to rebuild fire in same position and have to remove rock ring completely every start. - Fire Saw: One use only. - Swimming: Cannot swim even with full inventory, just sink to the bottom. - Crafting: Need a better balance on resource requirements, i.e. foundation and floor frame before adding floor is unnecessary. Bugs: - Blue prints: Roll with physics with no materials added and at times completely disappear, even with added materials. - Raft goes crazy and is completely unusable. Sinks to the bottom, launches in the air, or disappears altogether on use. (100% of the time) - Raft disappears on load of a save game. (100% of the time) - Tools sometimes disappear on drop. (50% of the time) - Tools may duplicate in toolbelt and bag upon save load. (100% of the time) - While approaching another island, game hard freezes with loud seagull sounds and requires task manager to close. (100% of the time). - Saves don't reload in the original save state. (100% of the time) - Saves load previously used resources or take away resources never consumed. (100% of time) - Saves do not work when entering through Esc menu. Cannot confirm or cancel (Yes or No option). (75% of time) - While entering canoe log, don’t always enter correctly. View skewed as if you were sitting in it diagonally. (25% of time) - Resources (logs, palms) disappear or get stuck in mid-air and are unreachable. (25% of time) Before reading on, know that I do support the development of this game. My comments, criticisms, and opinions are exactly that, mine. Sometimes honestly is the best medicine although it may hurt to say. All in all, I would put this game in its current state, in pre-alpha. While I do understand this is as early Alpha as it gets, in my opinion, it wasn't even ready for that. I enjoy participating in Alpha versions of games and being able to help mold its development in a very small way and have done many. This one in its current state, is not there. I will say that there is much potential in this game but a delay in its release should've been done. Basic functionality of craftable items (i.e. raft) is definitely frustrating. Bugs in those items? Yes. Functionality? Absolutely not. I have decided to put this down for a few months and see the improvements and the progress it has made in that time. My only hope is that, as in many Alpha games on Steam, that the devs don't take what money they made from it and run with the game in an incomplete state. I will recommend this for others players who have patience, passion, and want to see this game from start to hopefully finish. However, if you are looking for a 25% game and being stuck on an island for the unforeseeable future with repeating your builds over and over again hoping they will be there on a reload or when attempting to function, you may want to hold off for a few major patches. To the devs, I do appreciate the time that you have put into it so far and definitely hope to come back to this game and not only see some major improvements, but some positive reviews at the same time. I am sure game development isn’t easy and the criticisms received are hard to overlook and forget but may that be your motivation to prove them wrong. Good luck on this development!

I've never left a review for a game before - and I've owned and played a number of EA games, but this one, in its current state, is unplayable for me. I bought it today, and have 3.7 hours of play time on record, more than 2 of which was spent trying to right what the buggy physics had so clearly wronged. I built a raft base - it sent me rocketing 300 ft into the air. I built a second raft base - I stayed on the ground but IT went flying 300 ft into the air. I connected a bunch of raft bases together - then they ALL went exploding into the air in different directions - my raft splitting into several pieces. In an attempt to reconnect all the raft pieces, I would right click to drag one piece and that piece would stay where it was while another, unconnected piece, halfway up the beach, would respond to my drag inputs. I quit the game and relaunched it later and my hammer had somehow become an axe (leaving me with two axes and no hammer). I tried to craft another hammer, but the outline that appears after selection in the crafting menu would seriously fly away from me out over the horizon, never to be seen again. I requested a refund - I've also never done that before. It took Steam all of 40 minutes to shoot me down, claiming I had played longer than 2 hours and therefore did not qualify. Thanks for that Steam. So I'm stuck with this game - I'll check in after a few weeks and hopefully it will have improved, but for now color me disappointed that a game with this level of dysfunction was realeased even into early access.

I appreciate the realism but this game is a way too tedious. You spend a lot of time sitting in front of the fire because you're freezing, or sitting in your hut while it rains to stay dry and warm, and then when you finally manage to make a raft you stand on it endlessly as you sail to the next island. I find myself scrolling through apps on my phone as I wait instead of being engaged in gameplay. I really hope this game improves as it gets more updates, but I think I'll stick with Stranded Deep for now.

This game has a TON of potential, however it needs a TON of work to get there. It has come a long way from day one but there's still so many bugs. If your thinking of buying this game put it on your wishlist, and watch it but as of right now I can't recommend this to anyone.

Launched on Steam in 2018 and still very much in an Alpha state - I feel that this is a very small team with talented, but inexperienced programmers. They have some good ideas, but like many inexperienced developers they've ignored tried and true things that gamers have come to expect in an effort to blaze their own path - the UI being the stumbling block most often encountered. Some simple things, like shift-clicking to quickly move items don't even work currently. Other things are needlessly complex for no reason other than (I think) an attempt at realism - weight and volume impact what and how much you can put into a backpack or similar carrying device. Other things just make no sense at all. The fact that the game is still being updated is a sign that it is a labor of love, which is a good thing, as otherwise I wouldn't even have bought it. However, the sheer number of simple bugs present (after 4 years) is again a testament to the inexperience of the dev team, which is concerning. I would think they would at least fix the shift-click issue before adding new content - something that shouldn't take many dev cycles to actually fix. Or how about adding an option to split stacks, which is common to 99% of games in this genre. I hadn't encountered any crashes, but had a game breaking bug because I picked up a cluster of palm fronds and then couldn't drop them because they collided with EVERYTHING, including the terrain. Usually you knock them off the palm trees and pick them up individually, but for some reason this cluster refused to be recognized in a fashion that would let me split it up normally and I ended up grabbing the entire thing at once. My only death came from drowning - again, adhering to realism a bit too much makes this a bit tedious. First off, in the ocean you are more buoyant than in fresh water, so carrying three stone tools shouldn't weigh me down so much - as someone that used to scuba dive, I can tell you that you'd still float on the surface just fine with that small amount of weight. However, to even be unable to float or even swim back up to the surface - even after dropping my tools and then drowning... Even if I just ran out of stamina, which I hadn't, that shouldn't happen like that. Not very fun or even realistic. I'd only say purchase this IF you are a hardcore collector of these types of games. The fact they're still working on it after four years is a good sign, but the amount of progress is worrying at the same time. What is here can be somewhat enjoyable with some caveats - bugs, bugs, and incomprehensible design decisions. For most people, I'd say hold off for now...

This game really has potential, and I fully understand that it is early access, but when I go on line looking for help on certain things, I find issues people were blogging about 2 years ago, and I am encountering some of the same issues right here in March of 2020. Let's start with something positive: -- I love being all by myself and nobody to fight, just explore and survive on an island in the middle of the ocean, with many options for islands, boats, trees, food, scenery, and much more. It would be great if there were more animal types to hunt for survival. Fishing is good but not much beyond crabs and turtles for live animals on the islands. There are quite a few bugs and quirky things that occur to make this game not so fun at times. Here are some examples: -- Since you can wear a tool belt, and you can place items in 3 slots of the toolbelt, you can press number 1, 2, or 3 to make your player use that item. The problem is in my 2 slot inventory, which I believe are supposed to be the pockets of my in-game person, you have to keep going in and out of inventory to move things from those 2 slots to the player's hand to use them. -- Another is that the player has 2 hands, but can only use one hand for anything in the game. -- Another is when you try to move an object like a raft, it causes my player to move all over the place, even backward, right into the ocean, when I am trying to keep the raft out of the ocean while I am building on it. -- Another problem is when you build something, you can use your hammer only about 10 times and then your in-game person’s heart starts beating loudly and gets weaker, but you can chop a palm tree down, and then you have to chop at it sometimes 3 or 4 sets of 10 chops just to get to the palm fronds, and by the tail end of chopping you start getting tired. -- Another problem is you are required to have a band-aid to build a couple different items but so far, after 70+ hours of game play, I have never seen any band-aids anywhere, nor is there any instructions as to how to make one let alone obtain one. -- Another problem is how difficult it is to get fresh water to drink. I so far, have not been able to figure out how to separate the water from the sea-salt and boil the water in the game to make it drinkable, and I cannot find any other source of water other than from coconuts and capturing rain water in coconut shells and in the turtle shell water collector you can make, but only if it rains. The problem is, sometimes I end up on an island with absolutely no rain, and most other times very little rain and/or very few palm trees to collect coconuts from in order to cut them open and drink the water, so you run out of water and things get pretty bad for the character and then you die. -- So far I cannot figure out how to get warm with a fire. I have tried building huts and using the fire for in doors, I tried standing by the fire outside, and even standing in the fire, and my character was still "Freezing". The fire lasts so short an amount of time and then goes out if you don't keep adding fire sticks to it, but you have to stay with it and do nothing else or the fire goes out and so what is the use for a fire in the first place if you must tend to it all the time and it does not provide any warmth? -- It seems building a hut is a lot of trouble for no benefit as a hut will not help you get warm. -- Building boats has too many quirky issues. Like the boat/raft you make out of the wood stumps of a palm tree, when you go to connect 2 to 4 rafts together to make one big raft, it insists on placing the rudder on the side of the boat, rather than the end or back of the boat where it would make most sense. -- If you want to make a 2x2 boat, it is very difficult to get all 4 rafts together to form one big raft. I finally did it but had to un-assemble the 3 rafts I could put together, a couple times, and recombine them in different ways before the game randomly allowed it. -- Another problem is that I know how to obtain salt, but I cannot figure out how to use it, so my character gets weak due to low salt and then dies. -- Another problem is when you save and shut down the game and come back to your saved game later on, you end up somewhere in the ocean with all your stuff near a different island. Sometimes it puts me in my hut in the ocean and my stuff at the bottom of the ocean. You would think that the same island you saved your game with, would be the same island you would be playing the game on when you resume the game later on. I could keep going with the many issues in the game but I don't want to discourage the developers on this game because, as I said in the very beginning, this game really has potential. Perhaps a bit of serious beta testing would be in order to catch some of these obvious issues and fix them before releasing new software versions of the game. I will continue to play this game off-and-on to see if there are any improvements. I really hope there will be improvements but a couple years into early access may be a sign that the developer is not able to keep up with the demands of developing this game and it may be time to move onto a different oceanic adventure game.

10/10 Would buy!! Where should I start? I guess I'll start at the beginning.. To be honest the first thing I experienced with this game was that I didnt get past the loading screen to this game. That being said.. I was literally on the last step on the refound pages before I got the urge to just send a e-mail to the developers and tell them about my issue. I kid you not! I got a reply VERY fast! And after I send some compressed appdata I got the reply back that they where gonna work on it in 12 hours. 10 hours later I got the message that I needed to opt into a private testing branch to debug the issue and send new data.. Apperantly the issue I had was something new, something about my system language and time format and not even 24h after I sent the first e-mail the issue was fixed and the game was updated for all user. I also experienced a bug where items stored in chest's would be gone next time I looked. Send a bug report through the ingame bug report system and BAM fixed!! Truly, hats off and standing ovation for this team!! They really take this game and their players really serious! So Peter, if you are reading this.. Respect man! Now to the fun part, what I actually think about the game! The graphics are beautiful! And I'm amazed by how smooth it runs. How flawlessly it goes from first person to the over island view when hitting Esc, there you can pan around the location of your character and zoom in and out in the menu. The menu is your world to put it in easy words! There ofc is some things still needing work but I have all the confidence in the world that this game will see the day its finished to the level this devteam have in their mind! Truly an amazing experience to have in a world where games pop up and promisses the world then just dont deliver. This game DELIVERS! Its hard, realistic but man its FUN! So please, if you are looking here to deside if this is a game you want to sink money into... YES!! Do it!! Please from one player to another... Help this team make their few more bucks so they can be rewarded for their efforts and get what they deserve! From what I understand its a pretty small team with alot of passion who do this on the side. And holy s**t, what they have managed to put togheter is just pure gold! So help me, help them to maybe be able to do this on a more focused basis by giving them the funding they probably need!!

I really wanted to like this game. I've played almost 90 hours trying to like this game. I normally love survival games and I'm not too bothered by "the grind." I really dislike leaving negative reviews (especially for indie games) and I do realize this game is in early access. That said, this game still has so many bugs, it's unplayable. I've reached out to the community discussion with questions about the mapping system and whether or not my issue was a bug but received no replies. Also, the inventory system moving between hands, bags, containers, weight vs. volume with no way to split items is the most ridiculously clunky thing I've experienced in a game (and I've played a ton of indie survival games.) Also the fact that it takes several irl hours to move between clusters is just...boring. This game shows promise though. I like that there are different kinds of islands and the beginnings of a story. Please keep updating, fixing bugs and for flying spaghetti monster's sake, streamline that ridiculous inventory system so I can change this review. Until then, it's a no.

After trying the game for 12 hours I came away scratching my head. I know this is alpha, but my gosh, it's alpha8. So many bugs still and yet it's claimed that they have been addressed. It's not working. I give it a 1 Star rating right now, but hope they continue working on it. I may be back after after.

DISCLAIMER (as per Steam policy) This is my personal and honest opinion about this game. I did NOT receive compensation and I was NOT asked by the developer to write a review. I also bought the game myself and did NOT received it for free. Here's what I think about this game. First, please note that I am a survival enthusiast both in gaming-life and in real life, so I had high expectations from this game. Read below why I DEFINITELY recommend the game, why I wouldn't recommend it if you are a very specific type of player AND what I am most excited about. For what reason ever, a YouTube video popped on my wall and that's how I found out about this game. My first impression was "This game looks normal. Not the most amazing graphics. Basic menu and UI". Then, I checked the game's social media (Tweeter, YouTube, website etc.) presence and was impressed about the quietness of the team. Another thing that impressed me is that even in the above case, people still played it. So I thought "There must be something in this game that makes it interesting" and I bought it. Man! I was double impressed when I started playing it! It took me a while to get used to some mechanics and once I figured them out I couldn't stop playing. The game still has it's issues, don't get me wrong, however, nothing game-breaking so far and the developer seems to provide updates on a regular basis. Heck... I even read on their Discord a post where a player reported a "not acceptable" BUG and the dev literarily fixed it the next day with a hot-fix. HOW AMAZING IS THAT!? WHY I RECOMMEND THE GAME 1. The dev is on spot with supporting the community 2. Reported bugs are being worked on in a timely fashion 3. The game mechanics are VERY realistic. Example: - In other games, when you want to drink water, you simply approach the water holder, press a key, hear a drinking sound and that's it. - In Escape the Pacific you have to pick up the water holder, drink the water in it, put it back. I know, it sounds like a lot AND mechanics like these are exactly what makes this game stand out. It doesn't make you have the urge to finish the game. It rather makes you relax and enjoy a beautiful day, alone, in the Pacific. 4. With the promises from the dev regarding updates that are yet to come, this could become the new standard for survival games. 5. This game makes you think about your next step, in ways you only encounter in real life. Example: - You want to travel between clusters? Then be ready to prep your water, food, salt, wood, sail, raft and so on for days! Think about what will you do if a storm hits you on your raft in the middle of the ocean OR maybe no rain AND even worse... What if there is no wind and you drift away pulled by the tide in a completely different direction than the one you wanted to go? 6. As you can read, this game is challenging on a different level. WHY I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THE GAME 1. If you are looking for a quick dopamine fix by expecting instant gratification from a game, then this one is definitely not for you 2. This game is everything else but a game to be quickly played and forget about it. So, if you're looking to quickly finish it... FORGET ABOUT THAT 3. If you don't like sailing. This is not for you. Why? Because, if you know the map size of i.e. Stranded Deep, imagine that size multiplied by approximately 10! WHAT I AM MOST EXCITED ABOUT? This game is in alpha since years and you can feel the advantages in the game-play and mechanics. While other games focus on rather not relevant stuff during alpha, this game is focusing on real-life mechanics and game-play. Hope this made it easier for you to decide if you want to give it a try or not. If you will become a survivor, you can meet me and many more in their discord chat :) EDIT: Since I posted this review things have changed. I joined the Escape the Pacific core team and am now part of the development process as a Game Designer. My opinion above still stands and am very happy to be part of this amazing team!
