  Don't expect a finished polished product. Despite calling this a full release this is very much an early access project that needs a lot of work. There are many good features and visuals and many bad or outright missing features and visuals. The world itself looks incredible but the Water, the most important aspect in a fishing game, looks awful and blurry and your bobbers are all but invisible on the surface unless very close to you. actually fighting the fish is good but then there is an awful immersion breaking black screen cut to you suddenly holding the fish when you catch it, no pulling the fish out of the water or netting it. character customization is nice but the "type 1" (male) character model is derpy looking and has a bad case of man-boobs. Fishing lures are extremely generic and simple, and many do not work as they are supposed to. baits for float fishing are ok but the selection of hard plastic lures is awful, and the soft plastics are incredibly bad, there aren't even different color options just different sizes for the same color of grub, shad, etc. Fishing lures in the real world are designed to catch the fisherman as much as the fish, with tens of thousands of designs, colors, and techniques to choose from, so for a real world Angler to come to this game and find a single design of crankbait, swimbait, frog, jerkbait, and spinnerbait, with only a single color option for each size of lure, is awfully disappointing. color choice of a lure is incredibly important when fishing, weather, water clarity, local baitfish, etc. all play a part and while i don't expect such things to be implemented in a game like this having the option to at least pretend the color choice matters would be nice for immersion. The ability to toggle between retrieval types when reeling is good and something I wish more fishing games had. Casting is atrocious, both in the button mechanics and animations, there is nothing remotely approaching realistic casting physics, and no one has ever cast a lure like they do in this game in the history of mankind, at least not without throwing the lure straight into the ground and backlashing. Please let us walk while the line is cast and/or fish is on the hook. All in all the game is a very frustrating mix of great and terrible mechanics and great and terrible visuals. it feels like the developers have definitely put some effort into the game but also like they have never played any of the decent fishing games on the market before, let alone gone fishing in real life beyond a guided trip or two where someone else did the hard work for them. Fishing planet, Ultimate fishing simulator, and fishing sim world all have lessons that could have been learned to use to improve this game. this game has the potential to outshine any of those in the future, but is not there yet. I have wanted EW to make a fishing game since long before this was ever announced and I hate to be giving a negative review to a game I have been anticipating for so long but there is hope for the future. TheHunter COTW and classic are both miles better games now than they were when they released and this dev has a history of sticking with their games in the long term with consistent updates of both free and paid content. I pray that they continue to listen to their community and improve this game, and hope to be able to change this review relatively soon. ETA: I want to be clear that there is still some fun to be had in this game, and i intend to play it for a while, and i believe it will eventually be a great game if the developers stick with it and do not abandon it. I just want people to be aware of what they are getting into at this early point in the game. Also my game has now crashed twice, both after or while interacting with the shop.

  The WATER!!!!!! I cant look at it for more than 5 seconds. Its sooooo blurry makes it a chore to fish which is the main point of the game. You would think the best looking part of a fishing game would be the water but NOOOO not here.. How does this get released like this?

  The water looks extremely bad. For a game where you are going to stare at water constantly, this should have been a priority.

  For those of you that have been plying Russian Fishing and/or Fishing Planet, just stick to those. Because this does not even come close when comparing the mechanics of fishing. It´s so badly done that I could not stand more than an hour of it and then requested a refund. I´ve been looking forward to this for a while now, and with the bar set pretty high with COTW I had big hopes. Unfortunately the most important thing, the fishing/casting mechanics are in a very bad state right now.

  what is up with devs releasing unfinished games these days?? graphics look horrible, dont know if its aa or a weird sharpening filter they put over it? im confident it will be a good game sooner or later, but for now save your money. also still dont know why this wasnt just an addon for the hunter

  Do yourself a favor and go into options and turn on Accessibility Cast. That will give you the traditional, SIMPLE casting controls of other fishing games. The default casting is for masochists who love the idea of maximizing their carpal tunnel syndrome. Already I have some major concerns with this game. I'm giving it a YES for now, but that is a big, tentative "yes." I was hoping it was going to surpass Fishing Planet... but it barely surpasses the fishing mini-game in Stardew Valley. I mean... it's an okay game... but... meh.

  This might be the worst fishing game I ever played. Good: It is definitely a game... Ok: The environment is okay, looks nearly like unmodded skyrim... Keybinding options exist and the performance is ok. Bad: Everything else. The Characters look terrible, you have 1 hair option and no color options, is this really the best you could do? The water looks like oil. The fish look weird, alien, in the oil that calls itself water. The gear looks weird, especially the bait. No third person at all, even for vehicles. Few fish species in a giant empty map of boredom. There are a few birds on the map, a few plants, thats it... Terrible: The fishing. Fade to black when landing a fish? What? No walking while fishing? I don't think the devs even tried their own game. Overall I would recommend playing any other fishing game. Hell, even Genshin Impact fishing is better than this.

  Okay so I know there is a lot of negative review about this game on this first day of release, howver im convinced most of these have barely played it. Yes the game needs work, it needs some overhaul on some mechanics and some texture adjustments. There is a few bug here and there. If youre looking for a hardcore fishing simulator, this is not it, you will be disappointed, if youre just looking for a casual fishing game, then this one is quite entertaining. Even if the game needs work however id like to point that while the game may not look amazing right now this is an EW game. As an avid The hunter call of the wild player, they have my full trust, and I know theyll make this game into something great through sustained updates. like they did for the hunting game over more than 5 years of continued updates. These are trustworthy developpers they just need some more time. Globally i have a positive opinion about the game and I would advise it if youre looking for a chill casual fishing experience

  I read the negative reviews, but I wanted to give it a try anyway. It was disappointing. There are Early Access games that are more developed than this. If the game had been released as an Early Access game, at least it would have prepared you better for it. Releasing this as a full game, you come in with certain expectations. The game is definitely NOT a finished product. It already starts with the character customization. Seriously?! Blonde or go bald?! The driving feels sloppy. Then again, it's not a driving game. The water is, like many reviews already mentioned, oily. This is a fishing game, so you look at it a lot. I read people go: It just came out, it will get better. Is this really how low our expectations need to be for a full release of a game nowadays? Or are we allowed to expect more?

  I can't in good conscience recommend this game in its current state. The marketing for this game is downright dishonest, and whether you enjoy the game or not, you can't disagree with the objective truth that this game doesn't deliver on its promises and should've been released as early access with a discount. It seems incredibly rushed, the fish don't behave as advertised, character creation is awful, and the visuals are just...odd. From the product description: Battle a variety of unique species in an authentic and engaging fishing experience. Each fish type has its own set of behaviors and traits, which influence what tackle they’re attracted to, how they fight when hooked, and what actions they can perform to escape. Combined with a system that realistically spawns fish based on water depth, temperature, altitude, and more, every catch becomes a lasting memory. Master distinct fishing techniques and adapt your strategy to land the most impressive catch. Purchase gear and build custom fishing rigs using a wide selection of rods, reels, lures, hooks, floats, and jigheads. Create your angler and customize their look and attributes. Complete challenges to earn unique rewards and discover the world through meaningful story missions. I've noticed that time of day, water temperature, depth, bait and lure types, retrieval etc. simply don't matter and fish will either bite every cast or not at all for what feels like hours. The game lists bait and lure preferences for each fish and not only are many of them inaccurate to real life, they seem inaccurate to the game. I've thrown bait that is recommended for fish in front of those fish and they ignore it, then I'll throw some random bait on the hook and catch them every cast. The character creator was just haphazardly tacked on, there are very few options (one hairstyle and hair color for each gender) and the models themselves are mediocre at best. I tend to enjoy Expansive World's games, but I can't support dishonest and predatory marketing. This is the No Man's Sky of the fishing genre. Either they *can't* deliver on their promises, OR it'll take months or even years for this to be a complete product and it should've been made clear that this is an early access product that isn't worth $30 USD. If they greatly improve the game in the coming months and years and finally make this the genre-defining fishing experience that they claimed it would be, I'll happily change my review. I cannot recommend this game at this time.
