  The main reason why I haven't completed this game is because I cant handle horror games well, every jump scare gives me a panic attack, I would say that's a good thing since horror games need to be scary like that. Other than that, this game is magnificent, from the graphics, story, characters, fear factor, etc. Definitely the best horror game I've ever played. I've only played about a couple horror games and this one made me want to play even more games from this genre

  Great game, but I wish Jimmy could enter rooms at random and surprise you when you enter the same room, making checking the keyholes beforehand more important.

  It's hard to separate this game from the viral attention it got due to numerous Youtubers/streamers playing it. On the plus side, people who would have never heard of the game otherwise were drawn to it and maybe even bought it to support the devs. On the other hand, some people will brush it off, seeing it as just another streamer-bait game. Which is a shame, because what's here is very, very good. At Dead Of Night puts you in the role of Maya, a young woman vacationing with a group of friends. They check into the Sea View Hotel to get a night's rest, but soon find themselves at the mercy of the psychotic innkeeper Jimmy. With her friends tied up and locked in their rooms, Maya finds herself wandering the halls seeking out ghosts to learn Jimmy's secrets. But Jimmy is also wandering the halls, looking for her... The gameplay is as follows: you search the hotel rooms collecting keys, noting objects you find, and experiencing ghostly apparitions. When you find and make contact with a ghost using the receiver, you ask them questions about the objects and sightings you've had in order to tease out more of their and Jimmy's backstories. All the while you have to dodge Jimmy, ducking into rooms whenever he's close and listening to make sure he's not nearby when you leave, If he catches you, he knocks you out, taking a portion of your keys as well as an important item (he takes the receiver first, then either the mirror or compass if he catches you again before you get it back). Part of why this game works so well is Jimmy himself. Most horror games simply spawn the monster to chase you when you grab a mission-critical item, then have them disappear if you get more than two rooms away. But once Jimmy starts to chase you, he will always be present on the upper floors when you're exploring (the ground floor and basement are safe, along with the stairwell). If he isn't on your floor, it's only a matter of time before he appears. This creates a tension I haven't felt since Alien: Isolation, where you could hear the alien stalking you through the vents for extended portions of the game. But, much like the game going viral, there's a flip side to this. Jimmy's behavior never changes throughout the game. He never evolves. So your tactics for avoiding him never evolve either: hide in a room, use audio cues (footsteps, verbal taunts, etc.) to gauge how far away he is, then decide when to make a break for it. And if you spot him in the hallway, retreat to a nearby room and hide if he tries to come in. It makes for a tense experience for the first couple hours or so, but eventually it gets repetitive and sometimes you just want him to go away so you can find the next necessary object in order to advance the story. Thankfully my only other gripes with the game are minor. I wish you didn't have to manually select keys to use them on doors. The ending is a bit anti-climactic. And a couple of the late-game combinations of items and sightings you need to progress the story rely on some spurious logic. But the presentation is great. The FMV actors fit in well to the game's overall aesthetic, and the sound design is on-point, allowing you to easily discern if Jimmy is close to you. Speaking of Jimmy, the actor playing him was clearly having a blast, which makes the game all the more charming. It's tense, but a little bit campy at the same time. All in all, it's a fun experience. I played it with a friend watching over Discord and we both had a great time. It's clearly a game made with a lot of passion and nostalgia. It's not a thematically deep game that will make you think, but if you're looking for a good fright, this game will be right up your alley.

  This is one of the best horror games I have ever played and this is now my favorite horror game of all time! Highly recommend it to people who like to get their pants scared off.
