A must-buy for any Wasteland veterans, especially modders. Looks great, runs smooth, and the possibilities are endless. We'll need a navy for Norway, armies for Israel, etc., but that's part of the bargain. It's all very easy to do with Notepad ++. I just copied all the commanders from Time of Fury, made the necessary text changes, and have 100 commanders. Of course, I have no interest in building a game with the actual historical military commanders from 1953 :) In fact, I am considering downgrading the superpowers' unit levels to maybe "3" to give them more to research, while Hungary would be Level 1. Also interesting to bring Turkey into the mix on the NATO front to give USSR something more to worry about. Not really interested in the nuke part of the game, but that may well be very important for the design. Only bug I found so far is when you open the Diplomacy box, it blocks the other hex box options and I can't close it. I could be missing something, of course. So for modders, a very nice engine and template has been provided here. For regular users, it plays okay, but backup those csv files and give modding a try. A big part of the war (I guess) would be getting U.S. men and materiel to Europe. I don't think this is handled by the convoy system (I leave it on automatic), only supply (PP). I think U.S. builds must be made in America (gotta check that). It might be nice to allow these builds on European ports. Otherwise, the game will have to come up with some kind of cargoship mechanic to get U.S. units over there - while possibly avoiding WP anti-shipping efforts. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. Not to be rude, but Fall Weiss (IMO) was the worst. This effort is the exact opposite.

After 9 years in Early Access it gets not recommended by default.

"1953: NATO vs Warsaw Pact" is a mostly abandoned game that's been sitting in Early Access for almost 10 years... yeah... the developer is obviously never going to finish this. It's basically a copy + paste turn based wargame (the developer has a number of these on Steam, all incomplete... obviously some shady abuse of the program). The developer has acted in bad faith while working on other games while this remains in an incomplete state, so that's already enough to warn gamers away from this, but there's more that gamers should be aware of. The game has been in Early Access since 2014 and while it's still getting empty, contentless updates, it's deep in Development Hell. There's no reasonable expectation that this will ever be completed. Whether the developer lacks the time, funds, or skill/talent required to complete a video game isn't really something gamers should be expected to accept as an excuse. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features somewhat lazy, simplistic 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at 1080p, a very low resolution that became mainstream back in 2006 and became obsolete when 4K entered the mainstream in 2014. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. Unethically, the developer sold keys to this abandoned Early Access game into cheap, nasty game bundles, where they knew it would be advertised and sold as a complete PC game. This seems to have been done in an attempt to mislead gamers into buying a knowingly faulty, defective and incomplete product. When a developer does this for a game they have zero practical intention of completing, this is essentially a scam, an intention to get paid for a broken/unfinished product. Often this is done as an exit strategy, as the developer takes the money and runs. No refunds have been given, the developer kept all the money they took from gamers. Another unethical act of this developer, knowing full well that this game is abandoned and they will never complete it, they are deliberately trying to scam gamers into buying it by offering it on discount from time to time. It's impossible to "accidentally" discount a game. The developer looked at their abandoned game, and instead of doing the right thing and removing it from Steam, they instead doubled-down and tried to scam even more people into paying for it. Greedy, and completely unethical. Doing the wrong thing, on purpose, for money. This is not okay. Furthering the unethical nature of this developer, while they are selling this incomplete game under Valve's failed Early Access program, they're abusing that program, and not working on this game full time, as they have other projects in the works. That means there's ZERO confidence anyone who buys this in Early Access will receive a complete game, and it's possible that they're being scammed. "1953: NATO vs Warsaw Pact" has the completely unrealistic cash grab price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.

DO NOT BUY. This 'early access' half a game has never been updated since first release last November. It looks like it (and the developers too?) is dead. I feel cheated and disappointed and will never buy an early access game again. This should be removed from sale, even at any discount price. I want my money back!

A classic approach to war strategies. A good attempt to imitate the post-war climate in Europe. The biggest con for me is the very archaic interface.

I bought during the sale. A good strategy game. The product is certainly forgotten by developers, so I will not criticize minor technical problems during the game.
