  It's great to try a life of absolutely expendable cog in a roman war machine and this game can simulate it very well. Your task isn't to rewrite history, but mostly to hold the line for a while and stay alive long enough to hold the next one. You can of course try to be a hero, you can even get some awards and renown for it. But usually you will just get obliterated by some carthaginian nobody. Sounds boring? It's not at all! The cycle of fighting and respite in camp is immersing, there is enough to do and try to have some roleplay opportunities here, and the writing, mainly descriptions of battles and politics, is awesome. Legionary's Life is quite unique opportunity to live a piece of history through game.

  If you think you might like a mostly text based game about being a roman legionary, you will like this. It is well written.

  One game you'll kill every person you meet and be hailed as a hero of the republic, next game you die in your first battle to a random mercenary. Perfection

  All the people complaining about RNG have no idea how probability works. Great game, will definitely be worth the low price its sold for.

  "Swing the sword" If that sounds oddly familiar, good. Because that's exactly how this game feels and plays compared to it's Skyrim of yesteryear. Alessandro and some of the older Roberto staff (who made the A Legionary's Life title) are now under the name of Alessandro Roberto with their new take on roleplaying a legionary. It's not that new if you've played their older titles, but it does manage to twist your gut a bit with the gore and different kinds of surprises on the way, with the combat being an uncut gem waiting for that final touch it's something I can recommend when you can get it cheaper. I'm a Alessandro shill so I got the base game and I'll be waiting for the season pass content to come and the price drop. Game took me about 14hrs to complete but many have done it in less, played it with Maximum Security difficulty (Hard). Enemy variety might be my biggest problem with the game, just wished for more unique encounters and there are few points in the story it makes me question why would they reuse this. Biggest problem other people seem to have with the combat is the rng and enemies being damage sponges, at first the rng and enemies feel off a lot. But once you get into it more, it gets really fun and quite kino at times. It's all about the shield bash and that surprised me way too good. Love me shield bash, simple as. and of course the performance of the PC is great, it's an amazing looking game with no performance issues, so true benchmarking won't have to wait. What I gathered was that CPU's utilized and shader compiling's great. But let me quote Alessandro, the creative director: "It’s fight or flight and I’m one helluva fighter. Never giving up. This is our baby and it needs some loving right now." So that gives a good number of hope these problems will be fixed soon. It was fun, and that's what matters in vidya. Just wait for the price to drop.
