About the Game

A Realistic Survival Game set in the 1850's

Experience raw, real survival in the Pacific. Collect resources and build a modular raft. Learn and master realistic sailing mechanics with different difficulty levels. Build a shelter to protect you from the challenging Pacific-like weather and seasons. Hunt for food, craft tools and weapons, build a sundial to determine the time of the day, use the sextant to find out your global position, and draw your map from scratch using the triangulation method. Explore the endless world based on islands and island clusters. Simulate real-life scenarios and learn how to survive in the wild Pacific!

Build a modular raft from scratch and explore the full area of the real Pacific. You can build a raft with just a captain’s cabin on it or you can go crazy and build a survival floating base with chests for storage, drying racks for food preservation, sleeping arrangements, item holders and so on. The decision is yours. The realistic sailing mechanics enable you to learn how to sail. You can start with the beginner-friendly easy mode and switch to a more advanced one once you mastered your raft.

Scavenge the waters and surrounding islands for clues and items. Find out the time of the day by building a Sun Dial. Find a piece of paper and a compass to draw your map from scratch using the Triangulation method. If you’re ready to explore new island clusters, find a Sextant and off you go into the unknown!

Weather data from the real Pacific is implemented in the game. With up to 27 different weather factors the player can simulate a plethora of realistic scenarios: Hot, cold, dry, windy, calm and many more combinations. The in-game weather (wind, temperature, rain etc.) and seasons are based on the day of the year and the actual latitudinal position of the player on the global map. Items can get wet, and while wet wood is perfect to smoke food, it can be deadly when the player is suffering from starvation and can’t light up a fire. Everything is dynamic in this game. While the strong wind is perfect for sailing, it can cause the rain to fall at an angle and reach the inside of a building through a window.

Build, craft and cook with the help of blueprints in three simple steps: Place the desired blueprint, add the required resources and finalize it by either using a tool (hammer) or by placing it on a cooking spot (in case of a recipe). Build complex structures on land or your raft and stay alive by cooking a delicious meal.

3 Hrs into the game If you like survival games this is actually really good. I've not had any issues with bugs yet but its early times, had to swim to another island due t poor resource and only just made it 13 Hours into the game Had some issues with health but I sorted it out (don't drink bad water or raw fish) got down to 3 health wow but i made it back up to 100 easy enough once figured out Now I'm the Captain of my own ship exploring islands Looking forward to many more hours of fun 28 Hours into the game Still loving this game :) its just a never ending story with so many islands to explore and every island presents a different challenge! I can see myself playing this for 1000's hours easy :) I can't wait for the multiplayer (although that could be a while yet) VERY ADDICTIVE :) 140+ hours into the game still like this game a lot obviously but it does have some issues once you get into the game my biggest issue is the amount of "time" it takes to travel to another cluster of islands REALLY? "10hrs RL" hours of sailing is way over the top! BUT seeing that new cluster when you finally get there is awesome :) I got so excited seeing the new cluster after nearly quiting the game I nearly pee'd myself LOL

10/10 Would buy!! Where should I start? I guess I'll start at the beginning.. To be honest the first thing I experienced with this game was that I didnt get past the loading screen to this game. That being said.. I was literally on the last step on the refound pages before I got the urge to just send a e-mail to the developers and tell them about my issue. I kid you not! I got a reply VERY fast! And after I send some compressed appdata I got the reply back that they where gonna work on it in 12 hours. 10 hours later I got the message that I needed to opt into a private testing branch to debug the issue and send new data.. Apperantly the issue I had was something new, something about my system language and time format and not even 24h after I sent the first e-mail the issue was fixed and the game was updated for all user. I also experienced a bug where items stored in chest's would be gone next time I looked. Send a bug report through the ingame bug report system and BAM fixed!! Truly, hats off and standing ovation for this team!! They really take this game and their players really serious! So Peter, if you are reading this.. Respect man! Now to the fun part, what I actually think about the game! The graphics are beautiful! And I'm amazed by how smooth it runs. How flawlessly it goes from first person to the over island view when hitting Esc, there you can pan around the location of your character and zoom in and out in the menu. The menu is your world to put it in easy words! There ofc is some things still needing work but I have all the confidence in the world that this game will see the day its finished to the level this devteam have in their mind! Truly an amazing experience to have in a world where games pop up and promisses the world then just dont deliver. This game DELIVERS! Its hard, realistic but man its FUN! So please, if you are looking here to deside if this is a game you want to sink money into... YES!! Do it!! Please from one player to another... Help this team make their few more bucks so they can be rewarded for their efforts and get what they deserve! From what I understand its a pretty small team with alot of passion who do this on the side. And holy s**t, what they have managed to put togheter is just pure gold! So help me, help them to maybe be able to do this on a more focused basis by giving them the funding they probably need!!

DISCLAIMER (as per Steam policy) This is my personal and honest opinion about this game. I did NOT receive compensation and I was NOT asked by the developer to write a review. I also bought the game myself and did NOT received it for free. Here's what I think about this game. First, please note that I am a survival enthusiast both in gaming-life and in real life, so I had high expectations from this game. Read below why I DEFINITELY recommend the game, why I wouldn't recommend it if you are a very specific type of player AND what I am most excited about. For what reason ever, a YouTube video popped on my wall and that's how I found out about this game. My first impression was "This game looks normal. Not the most amazing graphics. Basic menu and UI". Then, I checked the game's social media (Tweeter, YouTube, website etc.) presence and was impressed about the quietness of the team. Another thing that impressed me is that even in the above case, people still played it. So I thought "There must be something in this game that makes it interesting" and I bought it. Man! I was double impressed when I started playing it! It took me a while to get used to some mechanics and once I figured them out I couldn't stop playing. The game still has it's issues, don't get me wrong, however, nothing game-breaking so far and the developer seems to provide updates on a regular basis. Heck... I even read on their Discord a post where a player reported a "not acceptable" BUG and the dev literarily fixed it the next day with a hot-fix. HOW AMAZING IS THAT!? WHY I RECOMMEND THE GAME 1. The dev is on spot with supporting the community 2. Reported bugs are being worked on in a timely fashion 3. The game mechanics are VERY realistic. Example: - In other games, when you want to drink water, you simply approach the water holder, press a key, hear a drinking sound and that's it. - In Escape the Pacific you have to pick up the water holder, drink the water in it, put it back. I know, it sounds like a lot AND mechanics like these are exactly what makes this game stand out. It doesn't make you have the urge to finish the game. It rather makes you relax and enjoy a beautiful day, alone, in the Pacific. 4. With the promises from the dev regarding updates that are yet to come, this could become the new standard for survival games. 5. This game makes you think about your next step, in ways you only encounter in real life. Example: - You want to travel between clusters? Then be ready to prep your water, food, salt, wood, sail, raft and so on for days! Think about what will you do if a storm hits you on your raft in the middle of the ocean OR maybe no rain AND even worse... What if there is no wind and you drift away pulled by the tide in a completely different direction than the one you wanted to go? 6. As you can read, this game is challenging on a different level. WHY I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THE GAME 1. If you are looking for a quick dopamine fix by expecting instant gratification from a game, then this one is definitely not for you 2. This game is everything else but a game to be quickly played and forget about it. So, if you're looking to quickly finish it... FORGET ABOUT THAT 3. If you don't like sailing. This is not for you. Why? Because, if you know the map size of i.e. Stranded Deep, imagine that size multiplied by approximately 10! WHAT I AM MOST EXCITED ABOUT? This game is in alpha since years and you can feel the advantages in the game-play and mechanics. While other games focus on rather not relevant stuff during alpha, this game is focusing on real-life mechanics and game-play. Hope this made it easier for you to decide if you want to give it a try or not. If you will become a survivor, you can meet me and many more in their discord chat :) EDIT: Since I posted this review things have changed. I joined the Escape the Pacific core team and am now part of the development process as a Game Designer. My opinion above still stands and am very happy to be part of this amazing team!

OK, so here goes my Review. 104 hours into game play. Four separate save files. 1 - The game has it's bugs. I knew this coming in as it is "Early Access" and still in an alpha format. Some of these bugs are constant and have not been fixed in the time I have been playing. These tend to be major coding type things that will require lots of work, but really are not game breaking. Minor bugs appear to be addressed by the devs once they are known. These get fixed with hotfixes quite rapidly. 2 - Community for this game is solid. I have studied other content creators playing this, joined the discord server, and spoken to a few who play. The Devs are active and responsive on Discord. They read everything, ask questions, and get back to people. 3 - Content This is the closest I am going to come about being negative to the game. It is lacking right now. In your first set of islands, you run around and learn to build your boat, base, and a few tools. You can stay in one area for quite some time and have lots of fun, but there is no way to progress in the first island cluster. This leads to heading out to another cluster. An adventure all unto itself. Did i bring enough food and water? Can i find another island chain? If you paid attention and learned basic mechanics, the answer is yes. It isn't really all that hard, just takes a bit of time and minor planning. Once you get to the second cluster though, the lack of content hits hard. You basically go around a second set of islands looking for the same things you could find on the first. No progress. I believe this is due to the stage of the game being Alpha, and that more crafting, items, creatures, etc are in the works. I look forward to it. 4 - Pirates - I can't wait for pirates to be interactive. I had a ball finding my first Pirate ship. only to finally catch it and be excluded from doing anything with it. I hope in time we can. Conclusion - It is a well designed game with minor issues. Well worth my investment. Even if they don't go further, I have truly enjoyed the game. I have high hopes for the future of this title. If you enjoy gathering, cooking, and some minor crafting, this is a good game for you. It is grindy, but i enjoy those. If you want high action, and lots of crafting options, and an actual story line, this is not your game.

I really wanted to like this game. I've played almost 90 hours trying to like this game. I normally love survival games and I'm not too bothered by "the grind." I really dislike leaving negative reviews (especially for indie games) and I do realize this game is in early access. That said, this game still has so many bugs, it's unplayable. I've reached out to the community discussion with questions about the mapping system and whether or not my issue was a bug but received no replies. Also, the inventory system moving between hands, bags, containers, weight vs. volume with no way to split items is the most ridiculously clunky thing I've experienced in a game (and I've played a ton of indie survival games.) Also the fact that it takes several irl hours to move between clusters is just...boring. This game shows promise though. I like that there are different kinds of islands and the beginnings of a story. Please keep updating, fixing bugs and for flying spaghetti monster's sake, streamline that ridiculous inventory system so I can change this review. Until then, it's a no.

Launched on Steam in 2018 and still very much in an Alpha state - I feel that this is a very small team with talented, but inexperienced programmers. They have some good ideas, but like many inexperienced developers they've ignored tried and true things that gamers have come to expect in an effort to blaze their own path - the UI being the stumbling block most often encountered. Some simple things, like shift-clicking to quickly move items don't even work currently. Other things are needlessly complex for no reason other than (I think) an attempt at realism - weight and volume impact what and how much you can put into a backpack or similar carrying device. Other things just make no sense at all. The fact that the game is still being updated is a sign that it is a labor of love, which is a good thing, as otherwise I wouldn't even have bought it. However, the sheer number of simple bugs present (after 4 years) is again a testament to the inexperience of the dev team, which is concerning. I would think they would at least fix the shift-click issue before adding new content - something that shouldn't take many dev cycles to actually fix. Or how about adding an option to split stacks, which is common to 99% of games in this genre. I hadn't encountered any crashes, but had a game breaking bug because I picked up a cluster of palm fronds and then couldn't drop them because they collided with EVERYTHING, including the terrain. Usually you knock them off the palm trees and pick them up individually, but for some reason this cluster refused to be recognized in a fashion that would let me split it up normally and I ended up grabbing the entire thing at once. My only death came from drowning - again, adhering to realism a bit too much makes this a bit tedious. First off, in the ocean you are more buoyant than in fresh water, so carrying three stone tools shouldn't weigh me down so much - as someone that used to scuba dive, I can tell you that you'd still float on the surface just fine with that small amount of weight. However, to even be unable to float or even swim back up to the surface - even after dropping my tools and then drowning... Even if I just ran out of stamina, which I hadn't, that shouldn't happen like that. Not very fun or even realistic. I'd only say purchase this IF you are a hardcore collector of these types of games. The fact they're still working on it after four years is a good sign, but the amount of progress is worrying at the same time. What is here can be somewhat enjoyable with some caveats - bugs, bugs, and incomprehensible design decisions. For most people, I'd say hold off for now...

Really enjoy the game, not just a simple build a raft and survive type. The weather changes and the scenery is amazing...I have been playing for some time now, the only thing I do wish for with this title is more crafting/building. Stranded on a string of islands for about 40 days, it does get repetitive...But overall great game.

Small dev team and progress is slow but progress is still moving forward, Game is not perfect but very playable. I give all the credit to the team creating this game, They haven't quit and haven't abandoned it. If your looking for a fun survival game buy it.

I had this game on my wishlist for a couple years and was always hesitant to buy it. However, I finally went ahead and tried it after watching a couple youtube vids. 12 hours into the game and I figured I was getting the hang of it. until..... I was simply trying to add a section of a raft floor and as soon as I released the part for snap on connection. the whole raft just disappeared. all of it's content and all of 12 hours of effort. I should have left it on the wishlist. total buyers regret....
