I'll give this review for those who still wants buy this game. This game is a PORT, from a REMASTERED game, from another title. Original game base: Sword Art Online: Inifinity moment(PSP) Renewed Game: Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment(I think, PS VITA) Remaster Game: Sword Art Online RE: Hollow Fragment(PS VITA, PS4, PC) This game have 2 distincts arcs. The main: Inifinity Moment Arch(aka Main Story), which introduces new characters, plot, and lore(Personaly i loved most than the Anime or Manga) The secundary arc: Hollow Fragment Arch(aka 'Hollow Arch'), which introduce new maps, quests, implements(extra skills, items, vendors) The game flow is: 30m-1h about dialogue(like a novel game), and GRIND&FARM, if i have to make a POS&CONS about that game, and about completetion time, will be like: POS - New Plot/Lore/Story - Great character design - Great dialogues - Great Experience like you in fact are inside SAO - Some sense of humor while reading the dialogues - You can play "Multiplayer" as "single player"(solo) - Bed conversations and ilustrations - "What if..." endings - GUI/UI/UX like the SAO - Give you a "What SAO really likes" CONST/NEGATIVE: - Dialogues tooo long(believe, 30m reading the dialogue, sometimes uppont to 60m) - Some skills you need to have "Skills", to unlock(like, reading the monster pattern and apply a perfect dodge, parry, etc) - If you seek for a guide, you can find for Hollow Fragment, and much less for RE:Hollow Fragment, by some reason, the translation for english are mismatch - Quests on Infinity Moment Arch can be a little boring(like collect items from a specific spot) - If anyone dies while fighting the BOSS, you MUST close the game and start again, to not loss the 'Not on my watch' achievement trophy - If you want get all achievement, its certainly you MUST get EVERY LAST HIT bonus item from BOSS FIGHT, if you dont get, close the game and start again, also DO NOT SELL you will get this trophy at finish the BOSS from FLOOR 99 About playtime: If you wanna just play and clear the Inifinity Moment Arch: 50h-60h Hollow Arch: About 20h-30h Platinum/Get All Achievements: 150h+ And a very worth tip for those who wants play the game without break the story flow: First, finish the Hollow Arch, it really worth(you know when its done, when the credits comes) Second, Play alot on multiplayer(solo) Third, grab your shoes, its time to get on Inifinity Moment Arch. Fourth, dont fear the DEAD END(death) but fear the DEAD END(death) in INFINITY MOMENT, everytime you die, is a lesson you learn. Hope that review can bring you some light. Also, if you seek for the sequence timeline(chronology): SAO: Hollow Fragment -> SAO: Lost Song -> Accel World vs SAO because after you complete game, you receive one quest to defeat the Lv. 1000 Black Lotus(Main Character from Accel World) -> SAO: Hollow Realization -> SAO: Fatal Bullet -> SAO: Alicization Lycoris

**Make sure to have watched the first season of the anime before beginning. Otherwise, you won't fully understand the story behind the game** ***This game is a remake of "Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment", which is a massive remake of "Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment" that's on the Playstation Portable. (PSP)*** ***This game is directed at a very specific audience, mainly the ones that are crazy fans of SAO and JRPGs. Give the game a try, although most people did not like it very much.*** *I guess you could consider me as a veteran since I have great knowledge and experience with this game* First game of the NON-CANON SAO Arc SAO Re: Hollow Fragment takes place in another reality than the manga/anime where during the fight between Kirito and Heathcliff, a major bug occurs and corrupts a big 3/4 of the game. Players that were below the 75th floor can no longer access the upper ones. Same for the ones above 75th but can't go down. Bosses of previous floors are reborn and the players lost the majority of their sword skills. At first when the game is launched you appear in a place that Kirito has never been to. You will later learn that it's called the "Hollow Area"... Aincrad's beta version, where some weird crap happens. The combat system is primal and a little complicated at first but you eventually get used to it after many hours in-game. Cannot jump even though it ain't quite necessary. The story is deep and well written. It gets confusing at times since there is so much dialogue. There is about 5h or more of dialogue I think. Graphics are not so pretty since its a " old remake " but not horrible I would say. When you reach Level 150, the game starts to become too easy since there are not many ennemies above Level 200. You basically become OP. The bosses are... Well they are not that hard to beat if you have enough experience and know what to do. I would say there is about 5 or so bosses that are really really difficult but other than that there is not much. MULTIPLAYER IS DEAD GO MAKE FRIENDS BUT! The game takes about 40h - 50h to beat when rushed (Aincrad + Hollow Area) but can take up to 100+ hours if you take your time and do everything there is to be done. Aincrad - Hollow Area - Quests - Hollow Quests - Events - Complete Gallery - Get every last attacking bonus - Clear the Lost Area - 100% Implementations - Master All Skill Types and Combat Skills - Unlock the Secret Character - Steam Achievements Game gets more and more dramatic as you make your way through the Hollow Area and Aincrad. LOTS AND LOTS OF DIALOGUE I give this game a 8.5/10 Gameplay: 5/10 Graphics: 5/10 Story: 9/10 Acting: 10/10 Character development: 9/10 By any chance, if some of you don't know how to level up effectively, go for strong foes! Eliminating ennemies that are at least 20 levels above yours is guaranteed to give at least 2500 EXP. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE GAME, STICK WITH THE MONSTERS AT YOUR LEVEL! If you have any questions, this guide just might help you! You are very welcome https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2016550586

TLDR- This game is good if your into the concept of a single player mmo, Its Great if you are a SAO fan. It has its flaws but i found many hours of enjoyment out of it and still am finding more for a very low price on sale. Can easily say go for it on sale, id even pay full price. So lets start with the flaws, my buddy who i played multiplayer with said the controls felt janky but he was on keyboard, they dont feel janky except the camera sometimes for me on controller. The combat can get very repetitive if you dont mix it up yourself. The talking to your allies to raise friendship mini game is just figuring out whether to hit r1 or X. The language in it is super weird too, i imagine due to translation. The ai training for your allies behavior is unclear but easy to manipulate once you figure out to spam nice when the symbols above there names pop up. The graphics are dated, and alot of scenes are rather etchi if your not into that sort of thing. The good, I love this game, i really do. The chaining system and comboing with your allies and training them to use certain skills and grinding for items and the general mmo experience put into singleplayer and themed in a pretty spin off of the SAO anime storyline. The games multiplayer is dead but if you have a friend to play it with it is alot of fun, and its available almost at the start, (its the hollow area). The many different weapons are unique and fun to play with atleast too me. The diffferent skill trees makes it fun to try and grab all the best skills. The game reminds me of a classic FF XI type fun, less brutal though. It has two full areas that are flushed out with stories and so much grinding you can do. You can beat it in 20 hours or less or spend hundreds. Its quality.

Let me preface this by saying that this game is a lot bigger than I expected. I went in, expecting to hate the game as I generally didn't care much for the concept of SAO (due to being a .hack// fan). I decided to give the game a fair shot. The first thing that struck me as interesting was the character customization. It was actually...pretty decent. (Granted the "cutscenes" and scripted dialogue don't reflect your custom character at all.) It was still nice to see. Upon putting many many hours into the game, I started to realize that if I could see a character walking around in town, I could invite them and build a "relationship" with them. Literally anyone. I could give them weapons or armor to better suit my tastes. This game was definitely ahead of its time due to the sheer scale of it compiled with the amount of content available. To top it all off, there is a NG+ mode AND online multiplayer. Need I say more? The cons would be...it feels like a handheld game that was remastered....because it is. (That and the fact that the leveling system is a bit....off at times.) Pros would be....literally everything else. The story is good. The combat is acceptable. The Immersion satisfies my needs for a single player RPG. (There's even a waifu "dating" simulation mini game if you're into that sort of thing.) TLDR: Great for what it is. Kill stuff, make friends, hold hands, etc...
Introduction and gameplay
So... where to start? Do you like action RPGs? Do you like dungeon crawlers (mapping areas, solving some easy puzzles, getting plenty of loot from chests)? Do you like useless fanservice that doesn't add to the game anything whatsoever? And more importantly, are you a fan of MMORPGs? Then this game is for you! So, gameplay-wise it's your standard action RPG but with some MMORPG elements (mostly cooldown skill-based battle system with some extra actions available such as stunning or parrying, can be repetitive but once you get the hang of it, it can be fun). It's like an offline MMORPG, if that makes any sense. The game does try to make it as believable as possible. NPCs react and talk to you (nothing too fancy though) and you have a friends list, and "players" in your friends list can send you requests for help (such as helping them to grind). Also, you can party up with anyone in your friends list (be careful though, if they die, they stay dead). So anyways, tl;dr the gameplay is pretty good. P.S.: I don't know where to put this but you cannot manually save. The game autosaves between areas and events. It's clever if you think about it, because you cannot save in an MMO, but in practice it's very annoying, so yeah.
Story and content
Story-wise, it's split between 2 stories: the main story and the Hollow Area story. You can ignore the Hollow Area and just focus on the main story if you want. I can't comment on the HA story too much (I played like 5-6 hours of it and it seems interesting) but the main story is a continuation of the first 14 episodes of the anime. You don't have to watch the anime if you don't want as it recaps the events in the beginning of the game, but you should for an optimal experience. But how good is it? Weeeeeeeeell... It doesn't really pick up until the last few chapters, and until it reached that point, it was a little too fan-servicey for my taste (to the point where it can be annoying). But I'd call it fine. It's serviceable. Furthermore, there's quite a good amount of content in this game (Hollow Area is pretty big), and you also have the ability to do a NG+ with some added bonuses (such as new dialogue and monster level scaling), so if you want to get more out of your play time, you can.
Music and Locations
How about the music? It's fine, it's good. But there aren't a lot of tracks so it can get repetitive. The locations of the game can also look repetitive, especially if you talk about the labyrinths. I mean... it's a dungeon crawler after all. But some of the locations can look interesting.
The avatar/customization
And finally, you can create your custom main character but bear in mind that everyone is still going to refer to you as Kirito, it's Kirito's story after all, and this is a voice acted game. I don't blame them for this, but it feels like they added it after finishing the game as the game isn't made with it in mind. I'd advise you to just keep it like default to avoid any confusion, but you do you. Armor and weapons also change your appearance, and you can gift them to other "players".
Graphics
It's a PC port of a PS4 port of a Vita game that was a remake of a PSP game. So don't expect anything too fancy-looking. It's not the best port ever, but you can tweak some graphical settings. This game should run fine on low end hardware, especially on the lowest settings. As for the look of the game, it looks like a PS2/PSP game which... makes sense. I do find it quite charming, and the chibi character models look cute I suppose.
Ending thoughts
So, is this game worth buying? Maybe... It's probably not for everyone (if you're impatient when it comes to mapping areas, then probably it's a no). If undecided, wait for it to go on sale. On sale it's like 5 bucks, and for that price you get a ton of content. Bu-bu-but... You forgot something... What is your final rating?
FINAL RATING: 7.5/10 "I HATE MY LIFE"
I played this game on PS4. SPOILERS TO THE SWORD ART ONLINE SEASON 1 AND 2 ANIME! DON'T READ THIS REVIEW OR PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE ANIME, BUT PLAN ON DOING SO.
This game takes place in an alternate reality to the anime where the players aren't released from SAO upon killing Heathcliff/Kayaba and are still stuck in the game until they defeat all 100 floors.
I am going to say it right here and now this game is SUBBED NOT DUBBED. This game is the first out of 5 SAO games. It is the best one out of them all with the 5th one Fatal Bullet coming in a close second. The story is very well done, the game play is alot of fun and it had a good amount of content to it, the game did the anime justice. Story: The story, dialogue and characters were all written very well. The main story tied into the anime perfectly, and because I felt the 1st season of the anime was the best one I was quickly enthralled by the story of this game, wanting to know what would happen next. I wasn't disappointed in that department. The characters, dialogue and side stories were written very well. I was constantly either laughing at the humor, smiling at the cuteness, or intrigued by the mystery/drama. I never had a frown on my face concerning this department. Gameplay: You can customize Kirito's avatar to your liking and even change his fighting style. I chose the katana blade myself. The sword skill animations all looked different and were appealing to the eye to watch. The rpg element was done right with being able to change the characters armor and weapons and their appearances changing along with it. When I leveled up and changed my gear I actually felt stronger. Leveling up your friendship with your allies allowed you to change their armor and weapons and command them to change their fighting style, as in offensive, defensive, support or to do what they feel is best. It gave leveling the friendship meaning even if it felt unnecessary. The blacksmithing system was hit and miss enhancing weapons worked great, but crafting them was terrible, the stats you got were some what randomized I had to reload my save like 20 times to get the stats i wanted. The action was pretty fast paced. The boss fights were big and epic, they fight like a true raid boss fight. If an ally npc died, they actually died in game reducing the strength of the assualt team making the next raid boss harder. Staying true to SAO lore. Another thing they put in that was also true to SAO lore is if you delt the killing blow on a raid boss you get bonus loot. Music and Sound: No issues. Cons: There are only 4 cons worth mentioning, but they aren't game breaking. 1) The Friendship system. You mostly level your friendship from talking to your friends but they are so badly translated that what they say doesn't make sense. Also you are either supposed to agree or disagree with their statement by hitting 1 of 2 buttons but you don't know which button does what. Also sometimes it's hard to tell if a statement is good or bad. 2) You can acquire 4 unique armors for each of the main female characters by encouraging them to fight a certain way like offensively, defensively, support or all around and when the grid for that fighting style maxes out they get that armor. The problem is the game doesn't explain clearly how to do that or what action your complimenting boosts what area. 3) The crafting of weapons, the random bonus stats you get as well as how much of that particular stat you get. 4) The amount of side quests you get from well lack of a better term useless npc who constantly message you for help. You get a dozen new ones messaged to you ontop of the 4-6 main quests you have to do every time you beat a level. The extra side quests start making the game feel repetitive and like its dragging on a little 3/4 of the way through the game. I liked this game alot but then again I am a big SAO fan. It is a must play for that crowd. If you aren't a fan of the anime and can get passed the 4 flaws I pointed out I honestly think you would enjoy the game. If I had to rate this game against the rest of the SAO games 1-5, 1 being the best, I would put it as.... Story/Dialogue: 1, Fatal Bullet coming in 2nd Characters: 1, Fatal Bullet coming in 2nd Gameplay: 1, Fatal Bullet coming in 2nd Pace/Length: 2nd to Fatal Bullet Replay/Repetitiveness: 2nd to Fatal Bullet

Sword Art Online, or otherwise known to "How to seriously grind in a JRPG" to it's biggest fans is really, truly, astonishingly, mindbogglingly, infuriatingly grindy. But at the same time it has a tremendous amount of story content, cutscenes, dialogues and a really, really, really slow pace. Only for hardcore JRPG enthusiasts.

Is this the best game in the world? No, quite far from it. Objectively looking at the game, I'd give it, at best, a 7/10. Subjectively though, as a big SAO fan, I had a blast playing it, one of the funnest games I've played in years. The Good: - Rich storyline, on par with the show. But keep in mind that the SAO game storyline differs than the actual LNs or the show after the Kirito vs Heathcliff battle on floor 75. - The visual novel aspect was a huge plus to this. I didn't know that was a part of it, but I felt that it enhanced the story, and I wanted to see all the CGs I could. - Speaking of CGs, they were absolutely outstanding and had a good amount of detail. - Upgradability of weapons was nice, and you could do a lot of them - Yui was absolutely hilarious in a lot of the conversations (especially the one where you play house with her) - I found Sinon to be a lot more likable than in the show - You get to see the original intro when starting the game. - Lots and lots of dialouges to have with your companions - A satisfying ending - The additions of Philia and Strea to the harem The Bad: - You cannot give other characters gear unless you team up with them, and are in Arc Sophia. Doesn't matter if you found a rare item in the Hollow Area, you have to wait until you get back to base to give it to them. - Lacking in the variety of monsters you can fight - Dungeons to the boss room are visually the same except for the last two floors - Very easy unless you go into the hard areas of the Hollow Area, bar a couple of bosses in the middle Hollow Area and the HNM. - Not very many styles of weapons and armors -You can only give your companion armor and weapons, no charms, capes, etc. so they clog up your inventory if they're worse than what you have equipped. - Little to no free roaming -It was kind of a pain to utilize all the sword skills you knew. Since we're on PC, I have no idea why we are limited to only 4 slots on each palette, we have so many unused keys that it should've been done. -You almost always get interrupted on sword skills that take a second to charge up to use on bosses (like Starburst Stream or Nebular Empress), and it was pretty annoying because they have long recharge times. -The Hollow Area was a terrible drudge in the last 2 areas. - You can only unlock Yuuki as a companion if you beat the game AND search the area after beating Heathcliff on the 100th floor. And that's the end of the game, so it takes one full playthrough for you to unlock her. - Sinon's GGO outfit says that it changes her face, but it doesn't. It was kind of weird seeing her with black eyes while she wore it. The Ugly: - The graphics are AWFUL for a 2012 game, minus the CGs. Like a good majority of the graphics are on par with KOTOR, which was a 2003 game!!! - The Empress boss and the other boss at the end of the Hollow Area kept spamming their most annoying attacks and really prolonged their battles. - Sound design was pretty bad - It takes FOREVER to get max affection with a companion. Like a couple of hours for each one. - There's one Hollow Mission (that I will never do, not even for the achievement) to where you have to beat 666 enemies?! Judging by that number, Satan literally made that mission cause that would be hell to beat that many enemies in one sitting. You are given 4 hours to do the mission, but I'm not doing that. - I felt very weird seeing some CGs involving Silica or Yui. - I understand why the story changed to let Sinon into SAO, that was acceptable, but I thought the way they did it with Suguha was really dumb. "Oh my brother is in a death game, I'm going to hop in and tell him hi". Yeah no, Suguha doesn't strike me as dumb, and there should've been a much better way to incorporate her into the game. - Leveling yourself up is so boring unless you do very hard areas in the Hollow Area. You get some XP from the side quests, but nothing very substantial. - Good gear was very hard to come by. Sometimes you pick up a rare item thinking its better than what you have, but it's not. - Fuck those stealth missions. Impossible to do with those expensive concealing potions - Annoying battle music. Oh you beat an enemy in 5 seconds and are battling again? Better start from the beginning again. - Too few sword skills in one discipline. All in all I really enjoyed this and would recommend this if you really like SAO. If not, this isn't the game for you.

SAO first season fan. Not so much GGO or Alicization. If you are interested in that core concept in the anime of beating Aincrad and surviving SAO; with a little ancillary character relationship cultivation thrown in, you will enjoy it. The game does have a lot of repetitive elements, but overall it was engaging and interesting. One word of caution, when doing boss battles think hard about the strength of the character you bring into the battle. The weaker ones will get smoked. Sometimes you are better off following Kirito's lead and just go it alone. Beat it in about 80 hours, you could do it in a lot less time if you wanted depending on how many side quests you want to do. You could also easily spend 200 hours on it if you wanted to. Overall, I'd recommend it.

So first of all if you are not a big fan of the first fourteen episodes of Sword Art Online you shouldn't bother with this game. It's not so strong that it can stand on its own, in fact the whole thing is one massive heaping helping of fan service so you all can just move along. I'll wait. OK so if you are a big fan of the first three quarters of the first season, this might be the game for you. It picks up more or less where Heathcliff got defeated at the end of that fourteenth episode or whenever it was, it's been awhile for me. Instead of Heathcliff's defeat resulting in the end of the simulation a glitch ends up keeping everyone in SAO. There's a 76th floor now and you can't go back to the first 75 if you go to the 76th. You get to be Kirito and it's your job to clear all the floors so you can hopefully escape to the real world. The game tries to be a simulation of the show, and thus an MMO (of course, the LOG OUT button is grayed out in homage to the show, but the game will still let you crash out to desktop, or log peacefully to the title screen from your room). Most of the time it succeeds. There are quests, groups, and raids. Players are everywhere. You have an extensive friends list which shows everyone you've ever met on the upper floors, and people will send you mails to try and call you for help, or just to say hello. You can invite almost anybody on that list to group with you, even the acquaintance nobodies, although you will have to track them down where they are physically and ask them personally. In keeping with Kirito's loner nature you can only ever invite one person to your group at a time. There is a terrible chat system which doubles as a rudimentary dating simulator. If all you want to do is keep relations with your friends high you can compliment them in combat and that does the job. Encouraging them after they do things also encourages them to do those things more often, so you can teach them over time to be the kind of duo partner that you prefer. Combat is basically real-time action-JRPG combat, with a skill system based on your weapons. Graphics are very Final Fantasy, probably somewhere in between XI and XIV quality wise. Outside of the main game mechanics, you'll get cut scenes a lot where you interact with your ridiculous harem of female worshippers from the show (and, thankfully, Klein, the only male supporting character). The story and dialogue is more or less on-point for SAO. Speaking of the story it's kind of all over the place. Of course you have the "main" plotline where you're going up Aincrad to eventually get to the 100th floor but clearing all that stuff is pretty easy for you since you start the game at level 100. The glitched area that opened up at the start of the game has a lot of higher power stuff in it though and you will spend a great deal of time here on something that feels like a giant side quest but probably isn't. Because of this the difficulty is all over the place too. You'll find level 151 mobs in the same area as level 80ish ones. Sometimes the game will warn you before stumbling into something like that and sometimes it won't. No matter what you will spend hours and hours mashing buttons, killing monsters, and grabbing treasure, the core MMO experience if I ever heard of one. So yeah after all of that, this is really the core market for this game, people who greatly enjoyed the first story arc of Sword Art Online, and who are nostalgic for - or just like to play - older school MMOs. This is a pretty small bucket as I can tell from my achievements - not even 20% of the people who buy this game have cleared the first tower boss. But if you're in this bucket you could do a lot worse than playing this game. There is a ridiculous amount of content here and at 16 hours or so I have barely scratched the surface. I got this game for $5 and it's hard to fault that kind of value. A narrow niche, but if you squeeze into it, pick this sucker up.
