  My entire 1.7 hours of playtime was comprised of downloading dependencies required by a route. I called it quits after 11 items in the queue of 511 items, had downloaded at the woeful rate of 10-50 kb/s. The solution? You buy into the Yearly Subscription Service for $120 a year and get access to all Trainz games versions going back to Trainz: A New Era, or buy a $35 "First-Class Ticket" which unlocks the full download speeds from their servers for one year. Quite possibly the most predatory business practices I've ever seen in gaming in my 20+ years of gaming. One should not have to pay a minimum $35-per-year subscription to make the game actually playable in a reasonable timeframe, ontop of a $40 base game asking price. I get that the devs have to make money, but... this just feels like extortion. I reckon if this were literally any other genre of game; this would be seen as abhorrent and unacceptable and nobody would stand for it. But this is the train sim genre. This sort of garbage has been the norm for twenty years. I'm just happy there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel, in the form of Derail Valley Simulator and Railroader Shortline Operations.

  same engine as the other trainz, i guess they added some graphic improvements. the performance, just like in the other "version" is horrible, we are speaking < 30fps on any settings. the way DLCs and that stuff works is just a pain in the A. i still cant figure out where all the stuff is i am supposed to have, when i look at the content manager i have like 25000 things in there but when i am in the game it just shows me 2-3maps with 1-2 scenario. i bought this thing here and pretty much all i saw was the stuff i already had in the other version of this game?! the price is an absolute joke for an updated version of their old engine. the only good thing i can take from trying this game, is that it doesnt crash anymore, the other one used the crash ever 10-15min at best replying to the devs response: i had vsync off, so i wasnt capped by that. i get the idea of collecting all ur content and putting it into each engine, but i didnt see any content from this purchase. overall its just very confusing as to where u are supposed to find what, aspecially when they mix in stuff you dont own, and just show u 100s of locations,locos etc giving you the feeling you have alot, when in reality you cant drive any of those. the price joke, was regarding this purchase and not any DLCs which i havent bought, tldr i reviewed what i bought and not what i could buy in the future, + i didnt get any extra locations/locos anyways from buying this updated engine?! so yea u pay 60€ for a few dlcs and a graphics update, where u dont get the dlcs tho. (?)

  I don't understand why this game costs so much. Most of content basically is "copy & paste" from previous editions. Pay that much for old content? Time you see above (12h) is time spent on downloading necessary content for this game to launch and play, so I couldn't refund, because it was over 2h steam limit. CPU usage is at 100% (i7 4790k) while importing new content to the database, which keeps freezing and you need to repeat - time waste. Optimization is terrible, small amount of content (like 70% is DLC, which should be included for free, I really miss old tender's quality/price like in TRS2012 and earlier). This company is focused on grabbing money from your pocket, for example you can't download any assets with full satisfaction, because speed is limited to 5KB/s, you have to purchase "first ticket" to download faster. That's a big shame, I really liked these series, but they chose wrong way.

  This game is a rip from TANE, slightly upped graphics and recycled sounds. textures must be updated for 80% of the games rolling stock. Nothing unique in this game. its only a slightly better looking TANE. TANE itself is boring unless you dish out cash for DLC. Not to mention it had great potential! In my honest opinion, I got more fun out of TRS 2006 and 2012. All these new games these guys make are either rips, not optimized, or just boring in general. Trainz was fun in the past because it was loaded with more base content. You got every locomotive... from ICE to a stupid 0-4-0 steamer. I wish Auran would go back to their golden days, and stop this money munching madness. What ever happened to the gold ol' days Auran? When you had more locomotives, rolling stocks, etc. for me to play with, rather than to buy. What ever happened to paying once, and getting it all? What ever happened to those days when I first played TUC (trainz ultimate collection)? I was expecting an optimized, beautiful, nicely rendered, and high graphic version of TRS 2012 or 2006. What did I get? TANE 2.0.... Shame.

  Anybody looking to purchase this game, know that it will prevent you from getting a refund under pretty much any condition. The base game doesn't actually include anything other than the map editor and a testing track "map". Any routes, locomotives or rolling stock is all part of paid DLC bundles that nearly match the price of the base game. "But I'll just download the user created content" you might think; nope, almost all user created content is also paid content. However none of this matters as you will easily pass the "time played" window for refunds simply by trying to install the game, yes even through steam. The game that downloads through steam is actually just the launcher used to download the real game. But once you're in this launcher, it counts as play time on steam. Pair this with the atrocious download speeds from their server and poorly coded launcher, you will pass 2 hours of play time before you even hit the main menu, regardless if you have a good pc or internet. Other sims tend to be pretty payment heavy as well, but not nearly as much as this game. This game will demand you pay beyond premium prices for a very mediocre game engine, not even a game really, an engine that demands you create your own experience. All I wanted was to relax and drive some sim trains, instead you end up shoveling money into this game and end up at a main menu with no actual game, just links to more paid content. Look into buying an actual game developing software instead, like Unreal and create the game yourself, won't be losing much time.

  I rarely downvote a game, but this one’s getting a hearty “do not buy” from me. Here’s the skinny: It’s a decent game. Overpriced as hell, but hey that’s the genre, and that’s what Steam sales are for, amirite? The driving is alright and fairly immersive. But… The graphics are not great. Far from photorealism. With the settings completely maxed it still looks like an early Unity game tbh. People don’t move. They pop in and out of existence and basically t-pose (not literally, but close enough). Matter of fact, aside from the trains themselves and gates swinging up and down I don’t recall any animation at all in the game. Raytraced shadows, but everything but the trains are static, so I don’t know why they bother. And what really jabs my fourth point of contact is they refuse to have Workshop support, and probably 95% of the content for the sim is user-made, hosted on their servers, which they charge a subscription fee to access. Okay, technically you can download them for “free” but they cap downloads at 5kb/sec. Yeah you read that right. 5 *kb*/sec. It’s 1995 again, you can practically hear the Skreeeeeeee of the dial-up modem. So if you want to download a route or locomotive some other player spent their time and attention to create, it’s going to take ALL. DAMN. NIGHT. Gaming PCs aren’t exactly power sippers, so you can decide for yourself whether that’s “free” or not. So subscriptions *and* microtransactions *and* indie-quality graphics. Wow! All the great things we love! So between the lackluster graphics and the archaic subscription/throttled downloads I’m recommending this game as a hard pass. Don’t waste your money, get a train with a better engine.

  This is a cross between TS2020, TSW and a model railroad. The game engine seems dated compared to TSW. You can drive the scenarios using DCC or simulation in cab. The good thing is that all my content from an older version I had purchased outside of Steam a few years ago was auto downloaded, so I didn't lose anything. That said, I would only recommend getting this at the sale price. I do not believe it is worth the normal price. This also has an editor which would be good in case you wanted to get an idea of how to design your model railroad.

  God awful. The game is already overpriced initially, but when you get inside and want to download things on the download station it's capped at 5kb/s because you haven't bought the fucking First Class Ticket. Devs are assholes for thinking that is ok. To rub salt on the wound trying to download normally takes 20 hours for a 100 mb mod. In between when you start and when you finish downloading the shitty basic servers they put you on are guaranteed to fuck your day with server errors. I wish I could've refunded this, but I do have one request. The Devs should take their game script, print it out, soak it in olive oil, and shove it up their asshole where it belongs.

  The performance of this game is terrible , with all the great features turned on i averaged 30fps no better, and the frame rate makes it unplayable,im sure that once that issue is fixed it would be worth evert penny,but if you have "new era"dont waste your money.

  in Indonesia this game is very popular among Railfans because it provides the opportunity for users to create the content they want, but it's really bad at night mode. maybe this is why the night mode doesn't appear in the game trailer and there is often lag when playing even though the spec has been recommended
