  Initial impressions of Riftbound brought back fond memories of classic PvZ... that is until you encounter the first boss, then it is like PvZ with the intensity turned up to 11. Really enjoying the challenge which is also surprisingly addictive. Awesome lane defence game, highly recommended.

  I was really close to thumbing this up despite its problems (a few small bugs, slow pacing and bad UI elements). Its a fun PVZ style lane defence, but the UI ruined the experience for me. Many of the units you place hover above their square, which when the screen is busy, can lead to you placing them in the wrong lane. A cooldown system prevents you from quickly fixing your mistake, which can cause to you lose a lane and snowball into a game loss. I'd like to think that this issue will be sorted out soon, but I feel like I wont be coming back to this one to find out if it improves.

  Great game from an indie developer. First release from this studio, and a really good game. Riftbound starts out like Plants vs Zombies, but then adds so much more. Boss fights are very cool and you have to pay attention to the gameplay to sus out a strategy to overcome unique boss abilities not seen in standard levels. Graphics are well done. I like the 3D perspective and the boss and spell animations are really cool. Gameplay is suitable for a wide audience with 3 difficulty levels, but it going to be pretty hard to get 100% of the achievements. Pro tip: Pause is your best friend!

  Basic UI oversights are problematic. Would be forgivable if the game was advertised as early access while not charging a full $20.

  Loved it, a great take on the lane defence genre. With more than one play style able to win, utilising spells, upgrades points and evolutions. You can even try to win certain levels without using a single defender..... awesome. The game has cute graphics, with a fun pace, i was playing for several hours before i knew it. Although sometimes frustrating, when you miss that levels the obvious secret mechanic, somehow made it even more satisfying, because you were not being force fed the answers. I would recommend this game.

  Entertaining gameplay, the challenges and boss fights keep it fun and interesting. The controller support work really well. Its a good looking a polished game and its refreshing to see a game at release in such a good state.

  As a big fan of PvZ (1...not 2), I love this game. It starts out familiar but then builds on the formula, adding additional levels of complexity and challenge. The spells add a whole additional level of depth, allowing you to do things like add damage or shunt and enemy into a different lane. The boss fights are challenging but hugely satisfying! The art style is super cute and it's great to see your little guys evolve Pokemon style into bigger and better defenders. You can tell that the devs have a lot of love for the source material and have put a lot of effort into this game :)

  I want to immediately dispel any thoughts people may have that this is "just a copy of PvZ" or "there's cards and books! It's a copy of Inscrybe the Spire!". While Riftbound definitely draws ...elements... from these games, it is certainly its own game. The game appears to be pretty straight forward at the beginning but then things start to unravel quickly and you must play both to your strengths and your enemies' weaknesses to survive at all. There is an INTENSE amount of build variety and options. Heck, even the RESOURCE COLLECTION aetherlings have a great many varieties of play and they all are engaging and strategic. The pace of the game quickly ramps up from "ok I think I get it now" to "OMGOMGOMGOMG" levels quickly and you're rarely left waiting for "number go up". The flexibility the spell system, combos, upgrades bring to the table basically means almost no two people's playthroughs will be the same, outside of the required guidance at the beginning. The music is nice and dynamic. At the time of writing this review, I have yet to reach the endgame but, looking at all the empty spaces in my spellbook, my mind is left reeling with the possibilities. I think it's absolutely worth your time to investigate and, even if you think it's "just another PvZ" game.... how many PvZ games are there? A welcome addition to the genre(?). What don't I like? Not a lot but I have a personal quibble; some of the dialogue art is a little mis-matching. Some appear to be based off a 3D render where others are hand drawn. It's fine if this is a deliberate choice by the devs but I, personally, find it a little jarring. Great job considering the dev team size.

  The idea to improve on the known formula from another well known game and recent update adding a roguelike mode to it is on paper pretty cool - well on paper! The game itself feels unfinished, has hardcoded "pauses" that waste your time like on map-movement-animations between stages and id argue even loading screens are not real because they always move the same speed without my hdd or cpu actualy loading/doing anything - the game does not respect your time. Things like clicking a button is more like clicking the text with no real feedback - it feels wierd. Technicaly the performance is good but the visuals specialy the battlefields lack in depth - they look flat and uninteresting. The game has litteraly no playerbase and no online presence in form of videos or streams, mostly because the price is too high for what it is according to the overall games market and even though the developers sticked to the game and tried to improve it - the end product is still not a finished product! Development and communication with the devs on steam seems to be wierd overall - the latest update news went live on 9th may but the actual update was 5 days before and so on. And since its comming to the epic games store soon i dont expect any further big improvements - they will probably cut a "weekly free epic game-deal" in a few months and thats it. Battles feel too easy for the most part with hectic boss battles sprinkled in but overall it does not feel fun to play - i dont know exactly what it is but there is something missing here. Something just feels off or just cheap. A real shame that they wasted so much potential.
