I've been eagerly anticipating this game ever since it got revealed, hoping that it was finally going to be the Adventure Time game I've always hoped and wanted in my dreams; a fully open world with tons of free to do quests and side quests, tons of interesting weapons and gear you can equip, lots of cool characters you can play as with interesting abilities, basically, I wanted a third person Skyrim with some nice hack and slash combat; but, that's unfortunately not what this is. The more I learned of the game, the more bummed out I got; but finally getting it in my hands has me pleasantly surprised. It's not what I wanted, but it's good enough. I have practically 100%'ed the game, so my review has been updated to reflect my updated opinions and points. TLDR though? It's a standard turn based RPG with semi-open world elements, a story you won't understand unless far into the show, and it's shortcomings are carried over the thumbs up recommendation due to it using Adventure Time's license. ----- Visuals: The visuals are fantastic in my opinion, they capture the show's artstyle in 3D near perfectly, unlike Finn and Jake Investigations, where they were so realistic that it was creepy. This game takes a properly cartoony cell shaded style that, while makes Jake look tired and old in most situations, is still by far the best visual 3D iteration the franchise has had yet. Every single world in the game looks and sounds fantastic; it's so nice to see these familiar worlds as georgous 3D landscapes. Asides from maybe HD-ifying them up a bit more and adding in some more frames to their mouths' sprites, there isn't too much of a way I can see this being improved upon. The animations are a little more suspect though, often stiff and kinda clunky looking, but they do the job I guess. ----- Ship Gameplay: Ship gameplay isn't that expansive, it's mostly a method of travel and a way for you to collect some extra cash and items along the way. You'll find loads of crates in a bundle along your travels, that of which all require an individual capturing action to get. A swooping action or upgrade to make these not so tedious would have been beneficial. But asides from that, it's just a way of getting from kingdom to kingdom. ----- Interrogation Gameplay: I was completely unware this was even a gameplay mechanic going into the game, but it definitely adds some nice character to the game! Basically, you get prompted through the storyline to interrogate someone from the cast to coax information out of them, somewhat LA Noire style. It's not terribly in depth however, and seems to get abandoned quite a bit through the game, unfortunately. Does it get explored enough? Not really, but it still adds to the experience instead of detracts. ----- Combat: Combat is your standard turn based RPG format, however it's only just barely deep enough to keep things interesting. Each character has three different abilities which each have three more increasingly powerful variants of them that use up more and more of your energy (which you accumulate throughout the fight). The flow of combat is pretty familiar if you've played a multi-party turn based RPG before though, but it's servicable. You can also upgrade all of your characters' individual stats and abilities with money, which is required if you don't want to be stomped into pastry by the tougher goons. However, once you reach a certain level with all your characters and unlock some specific abilities, the game becomes borderline trivial, forcing you into a specific optimal combat routine. It's a shame too, because the combat was fairly enjoyable most of the way through the game. After you reach
The Flame Kingdom
it just becomes too easy, provided you have these abilities:
Jake's protect ability and Marceline's wolf claws ability. These should have been rebalanced.
----- Open World: The open world aspect is mostly instance based, instead of being properly open world. Big mostly empty but visually appealing open flooded world comprised of much smaller, explorable smaller worlds. There are side quests and treasures for you to find, but they aren't too involving most of the time, not bad, but not fantastic either. ----- Party Members:
The fact that there are only four playable characters I find is a serious bummer, especially considering there was plenty oppertunity to add more. You're going to be stuck with Finn, Jake, Marceline, and BMO. I believe they should have added more characters to your choosable roster, like Bubblegum, Flame Princess, Ice King, and maybe some oddballs here and there.
----- General Nitpicks: The biggest problem I have with the game however is that it gives off the general overarching feel of unpolish you'd expect from a game still currently in late beta. The environment jitters ever so slightly when you're moving, it's ignorable, but it's very visible if you're looking for it. Your characters disconnect from moving objects in the middle of cutscenes, appearing to move through them or above them for brief moments. I've gotten stuck falling off the world a few times, and a few other very minor nitpicky things. None of these problems are big, but they definitely do show a general lack of polish and care put into the game; stuff that could have been fixed with another month of work. These all may be fixed in the coming weeks of release, maybe, maybe not. ----- Updated Summary: A fairly solid experience with enough going for it to potentially satisfy fans of the show who are looking for a good 3D Adventure Time title. This is by far the best one, and potentially even the best Adventure Time game; but truthfully, it doesn't have much competition. Explore the Dungeon Because I DON'T KNOW I found to be a fantastic and really enjoyable title, but it seemed that before the game was pulled due to licensing issues, nearly everyone else disagreed with me. Anyway, I'd avoid if you aren't a fan of the show, as the Adventure Time license carries a lot of this game's blandest points. Very enjoyable and fun up until the last few hours, where it becomes far too easy for it's own good.

I'd recommend it for kids. The writing is definitely different compared to the TV show and is more for kids compared to the TV show that has both child and adult nuances.

Awesome graphics, great storyline, amazing gameplay, PERFECT game. Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion beats Elden Ring, GTA V, Hollow Knight, and any CIV game in quality and overall enjoyment. If I could, I would turn this game into a real-life human and eat it.

Baby's first RPG, faithfull to the Adventure Time universe and it definitely has a lot of charm and good ideas. But a lot more could have been done with this. The side quests are too short and not very rewarding but without them the game is too short, little over 5-6 hours if you only do the main quest. Some strange glitches pop up now and then, even for such a short game. Also not much in terms of music, not for bosses or even in the hub, it leaves the game feeling very lifeless. I see the potential in this game, but it needed a lot more quests and things to do other than sailing around an empty world, it's like a much less interesting Wind Waker. Would only recomend for Adventure Time fans or if you want an easy first RPG. For everybody else who might just be curious, I would say skip this one. The game is not bad, but there are better options out there.

The animation for gameplay is lacking, voice acting is great, default controls are a little annoying, but the fighting is really cool, as well as interrogating, fighting is a turn base style, and you also unlock more characters, this is day 1, so keep that in mind, if the game doesn't run well, don't get mad, just run it by the devs, also there aren't many video setting options that I know of, is this worth 30 dollars? Well, as if right now, no, but I haven't played much yet, so I will update this when I get the chance, even as a big fan of Adventure TIme, I just think the price is a little much, that being said, if money isn't an issue, then yes, if it is, then wait for a sale, or until someone with more time gives a better review that covers more in depth.

As an Adventure Time fan, I enjoyed playing this game but let's be real. This game is targeted towards kids. So if you're looking for that "epic gamer" stuff in here, you won't find it. Do I love the game? Yes. Do I recommend it? For kids? Yeah. For adults? No.
