Steam Greenlight

Thanks for everyone who voted for us on Steam Greenlight! We are proud that community approved our project and allowed us to be in Steam. Thanks you very much!

About the Game

Celestial Command is a realistic co-op crafting survival sandbox space game which unites an orbital mechanics, realistic physics, ship constructor and various features of classic space games.

Mine asteroids, salvage space debris, build space ships and stations, manage fuel and energy, trade goods, performs missions and fight against enemies in large open world with realistic 2D physics based on orbital mechanics or in alternative, more classic game mode.

Realistic Orbital Mechanic

The world of the game works based on simplified orbital mechanics. Everything in state of constant orbital motion. Perform orbital maneuvers and keep your space ships on stable orbits to prevent crashing on a planet or loosing ship in deep space.

The physics simulates in 2D space, this makes flying and navigation enjoyable and easy but also generates a lot of interesting situations due physical collisions which are more often in 2D space than in 3D.

Galaxy

Explore a procedural galaxy filled with various types of stars, black holes, planets, asteroids, space stations and other interesting things which we will constantly add in the future.

Fully Customizable Ships and Space stations

You can build your own ship part by part. Each part of the ship is individual, it has own functions and parameters. Therefore, abilities of your ship are completely dependent on the modules from which it is assembled. You can build small explorers, large industrial ships, carriers, defense satellites or whatever you want.

Each module can be detached or attached to the ship right on the fly, which allows to transform your ship using found modules.

Ship Management

All resources of the ship are limited. Including fuel, energy, ammo and construction materials, so store them and use them wisely.

Command a Fleet

You are not bound to a single ship. You can build as many ships and space stations as you want. And you can switch control between them anytime. Also it is possible to control your ships not only directly, but also giving movement orders.

Gather Resources

Mine asteroids for useful resources or salvage wreckage of broken ships in order to build new modules and produce fuel.

Economy, Trading and Missions

Trade goods between stations or complete procedural missions provided by NPC stations and earn additional credits to buy new modules on a shipyard.

Fight the Enemy

Build various types of devices to fight against enemies. Cannons, lasers, rockets, shields and more.

The game has now been in active development, so even more interesting features added almost each update!

Check our development blog for more information about development and future plans.

Is the game worth $20 bucks? Yes. Is the game complete? No. Does it grab your attention where you have to play just one more minute? No. So why the positive review? The devs. Plain and simple. They are honest. I am one of the idiots that purchased Kinetic Void. It was one of the first, or the very first early access game for steam. It gained a good following only to be abandoned. The game sucks now in it’s unfinished state. Many people now own a giant pile of crap with that game. They were not honest, they kept giving excuses, then poof, they disappeared. So, Kinetic Void was a cash grab? No. They ran out of money, got bored with production and bailed. What does That game have to do with Celestial Command? Funding. And that is it. Celestial Command (CC) has admitted that they are low on funds. Without them, the devs can’t eat. If they can’t eat, they have to take time away from development to get jobs or scout for funding, and that takes away from the game. They are fighting tooth and nail to keep production of the game going at a good pace. So, why should I get this game if it might go the way of abandonment? Because I honestly think it won’t. You can support the devs if you wish by throwing them some change every month to help them out. patreon.com/celestialcommand So you want me to pay for the game and continue to pay them more each month?! You ask a lot of questions. But, no. Only if you believe in this game. I am starting too. I purchased this game soon after it was green lit almost five years ago. It really was bare bones then, and after a few dev overhauls and many updates, it really is starting to come around. They just released 0.89, and it is impressive! Also, as of 4/2/20, they announced that the game is going 3d! Not just top down anymore. This game keeps getting better and better with every update. Yeah I tend to get bored after some time playing it… but it is much much better than what it was in the past. I have no doubt this game will grab my attention with a few more updates and some more polish and content. I can easily see myself calling in sick for work because I didn't sleep at all because I was playing this game. It’s just not there, yet. These guys are the true definition of an indie development team. They don’t have million dollar budgets and for some reason I can picture them sitting around eating noodles and other crap for dinner just so they can continue development, because they believe in this project. And I believe they can do it. If I could afford it, I would in a heart beat help them with patreon. However, as a single dad to a teenage girl, that is out of the question for now. But I am following it closely now. They have opened my eyes. To the devs, you guys keep doing what you are doing. I love your honestly and your passion. You have a fan for life, just because of that.

Thumbs up for a great concept, looks very promising even being in a very early stage. However, keep in mind this is not 'ready to play' by any means, at this time I'd consider buying it only if you like the general idea and want to support the devs with funds. Has the potential to be a very unique and great game though.

Despite having been in EA since 2014, Celestial Command has not so far achieved a meaningfully playable state and my confidence in its future development is low. The dev is releasing updates every now and then and much work is being done, so more optimistic people may see it more positively, but for me there just isn't enough game to it. In my opinion, it's mostly a tech demo right now. What's more is that the developer seems to have long-term design plans that effectively invalidate much of the game's early promise, or at least dumb it down to the point where you might as well be playing anything else. See aerodynamic mode receiving developmental focus instead of orbital mechanics, full 3D movement getting the axe in favor of a return to 2D, plans for a single HP bar instead of individually destructible components, and increasingly game-y systems like a limit on the numbers of weapons mounted on a ship and having space-magic force field shields instead of armor. The dev has his reasons for these things - his current concern is apparently with making the game conform to conventional sci-fi game expectations and to streamline it -, but his vision seems so basic and unambitious that I really don't see why you should be interested in this game. I hope to be wrong, but would not recommend buying into it at present.

Kerbal Space Program meets the Expanse! Mine, loot, dock, construct and kill pirates! Make sure that you check out the discord channel with a very friendly community. The game is still in ealy access, but definitely worth your money and love. :) Btw - it runs well on old system like: AMD Phenom 2 3.2 Ghz and an ATI Radeon HD 5770

I've been waiting for a game like this for a long long time. This isn't your typical arcade/causal nonsense - the game is as sophisticated as the games I was raised on and it takes realistic space to a whole new level. Be advised that the game is still in early development and is nowhere near fully playable. Still, I'm waiting eagerly for updates.

Clunky controls that make simple tasks a pain Windows disappear and you have to restart the game to see them again Cluttered GUI that feels super simplistic Camera... what is up with these camera mechanics? Trading is bugged, sell mode doesnt work. 1 click out of 5000 i will sell 10 units... 2D building system in a 3D world... Snap to grid system is broken, mounting points fail often Learning curve is super steep, the tutorial tells you bugger all and basically just throws you in the deep end. I really want to like this game but these small bugs make it incredibly hard to enjoy, and im a big fan of space sims even if they are as challenging as this. I'm going to lay down, I have a headache...

First time i played it for 90h and had a lot of fun. Im also used to EA games, bugs, no tutorials and what. Its also very bare bones. At this state its definitely not something for most people. But thas not the reason for my negative review. Its mainly because of how long the game has already been in development for (2014) and the frequency of each update. Its incredibly slow, more than 2 year since the last main branch and year ago was a experimental. Hard to recommend any game that moves at a snails pace. The devs aren't the best in communicating either, which doesn't help. All we get is empty promises and then silence.... until the pop up with some announcement. TLDR : VERY slow development. Empty promises then silence. Unsure when the game will be completed or IF it ever will be before Star Citizen. Very high risk investment.

NOTE: This is an EA review, on a version that is still 2.5D - the game is slated to be fully 3D with inclined orbits, and other 3D features per the roadmap. This will change the gameplay from what I review below (it might be a lot more challenging), but a lot of the game basics should already be covered in this review. After KSP, this is one of the most realistic 2D orbital dynamics games I've found. You don't launch your ships from the mother planet - instead you start in space and build up your ships in space, while visiting platforms to sell and buy goods. The other difference from KSP is that there are enemies and guns! This game also reminds me, in a beautiful way, of the game Osmos, which also has orbital dynamics with bubbly asteroids, and here they are rocky asteroids, but the same sort of soupy swimmy feeling takes place - it is really a lot of fun. The game is still in EA (early access), and the UI is still a bit weird and non-intuitive. Maybe the tutorials help - but until the game is released, I just try to figure things out, and it was not intuitive, but VERY satisfying when something things started to work and the game started to move forward. Also because the game is EA, it has seen features come and go, as the devs adjust to what makes the game fun and what might be overkill for some players (at least I'm guessing that's what drives some of the changes I've seen). I can totally see spending an all-nighter or two playing this over a weekend. Loosing all my friends (well.. those 2 still remaining)... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2110346485 PROS: - Cube-like "click-the-blocks-together" ship design - Build a monster ship from goods you mine from asteroids - Notice the monster ship is very hard to control, and learn how to balance power to weight ratios - Make it very nimble and easy to control - Then run out of gas as your crew screams in horror that you have left them to die in the cold embrace of space - Warp to other solar systems and find out the people there want to kill you - Build a behemoth space station "base" for processing goods - Explore a map of interconnected solar systems that form a huge galaxy - There's a technology tree I haven't even started on - The game is very relaxing... at least until you starve your crew to death after running out of gas... but hey... we'll try to do better next time! CONS: - UI is still not too easy to figure out - No MechJeb (haha - MechJeb is a KSP tool for making orbital calculations that helps with rendezvous to other objects in orbit - it would be nice to have a similar tool here too) I love this game! I love how the orbits of the asteroid you are approaching and your ship move around when you are maneuvering to a good position. I love the grind. I love the ship design. I really love flying the ship and making it very easy to control and bigger and bigger and all the options and improvements. Placing engines where they get the most leverage... improving the starter ship... making everything "just so". This is a space tinkerer's dream. If you like KSP - you will probably like this. It is also different enough from KSP to stand on it's own. -------Ancient original review below --------------- -------Game underwent major changes after (from 2D to 2.5D +others) ------------- // Warning: // I've got about 13 hours when I wrote this review and that's roughly when the game // became unplayable for me. UPDATE: After reading Flaagg's review, I'm going to // try this again. Even in its current pre-alpha state, gameplay is really very engaging. It just kept me up until 4am! I would call this a 2D KSP. But it's also artful, as you can see from some of the screenshots. Reminds me of Factorio that way. I only recommend this game if you are already familiar with controlling orbits, (maybe if you've landed on the moon with KSP). It also doesn't hurt if you've watched some of the youtube videos showing people who are hopelessly lost trying to figure out how the game works. I know that helped me at least. The main gameplay (within 1 hour of picking up the game) is to keep the crew fed. So landing on space stations is a big priority. Along the way if you can mine an asteroid and sell some of the ore and use the money to pay for the food, then that's not half bad. It also doesn't hurt to try to figure out how to optimize the ship to make it more maneuverable and hold more cargo, along with solar panels to recharge the batteries. And landing on the space station -- yeah whoever made those space stations was a complete dufus! They put the landing ports in between the ship and the solar panels so there's all this maneuvering to try to connect without breaking things in the process! :) It's pretty fun and there's NO PAUSE, so it can feel a bit extreme getting the hang of the controls, which I tend to get mixed up (rotate left, rotate right, forward, backward, strafe left, strafe right). Maybe reassigning the keys would make that more intuitive. You can make a ship very similar to Reassembly, something that handles very much the same way. This means when the ship is upside-down on the screen, somehow the brain figures out how to reverse steering just like controlling a remote-controlled car. Except in Reassembly fuel was infinite, and here fuel is finite, and so it requires great attention and planning. In the current state, beware that it's pre-alpha. But also the flip side is don't miss out. The experience is worth your time.

It's been 5 years and this is still unplayably clunky, at this point you're just paying for someones game development hobby. The rate of progress is so ridiculously slow that it seems inevitable that this will be abandoned before it's even half-way to being an actual game. EDIT: I'm going to update this review to say that the developer is still actively taking feedback on issues so I'll likely come back and try this again in the future. For now I'd still stand by my review that in the current state it's not very playable.

Nice gem of space game on Steam. Pretty light on hardware requirements and good looking at the same time. The Devs are VERY active and actually listen to the community and implement player feedback. I'm looking foward to see this game grow until final release. If you like space-ambiented games and physics, do yourself a favor and get this!
