Interesting change of pace from The Evil Within and previous DLCs. The player takes the role of the Keeper, and the game is played from a first-person POV rather than the third-person POV. The Executioner does away with stealth and hiding from enemies, a key part of survival in The Evil Within, and instead focuses entirely on combat. You must fight your way through several iconic enemies from The Evil Within to fulfill your mission and complete the game. Recommended if you like hack-and-slash action, a deviation from the traditional survival horror aspects of The Evil Within, and a more direct and less complex story line. Otherwise, not recommended.

After forty hours of nightmares, this is catharsis. See, it's not about the overused "murder everything as the monster" schtick. It's about detoxifying all the fear you had playing through the story. This time, you're the monster, and you get to kill everything you learned to hate in the game without breaking a sweat. And AFTER you've been playing a horror game nonstop, this DLC is hilarious. But I recommend you play it after you've beaten the game on Insane difficulty, and only once, otherwise it loses its charm.

You can be a big meaty man who wears a safe on his head and smack people down with a fuck huge hammer. Story? Who gives a shit you can hammer people. Game play? You smack people with a hammer in first person. Upgrades? You can upgrade the smackability of your hammer. Bad guys? They make lovely sounds when you go to pound town on them with your hammer. Pros. -You have a hammer you hit stuff with Cons. -They give you other boring weapons like a chainsaw and rocket launcher when the hammer is all you need. 10/10 would hammer again.

The Executioner is third and last DLC for The Evil Within published in 2015 for all the platforms. The plot tells a story of new Keeper, successor of the one tormenting us in base game. The unnamed butcher becomes this monster to kill all the other ones and save his daughter. To do that he clears all the floors in the Mansion from old and new bosses. The protagonist is mute but he is kind of sad character who we can really understand, the ending also can touch a heart deeply. This DLC is unique, because it differs the most from base game, we clear our adventure all the time from First Person Perspective, to defeat enemies we use many weapons unlockable and buyable from shop (Melee mostly but also some traps) along with upgrades, that does not change the fact that this adventure is incredibly hard, we must be fast and strategic when performing executions (which as stylish as Mortal Kombat fatalities). There are also some challenges to clear, easy and hard ones. Not really a long DLC but there is a new game unlocking some new stuff and additional boss fight. That gives us up to 10 hours of actually cool gameplay. Despite of short lenght The Executioner provides us with surprisingly good story and challenging gameplay. I would actually give a full prize for it and it may sound odd but in my opinion it is a best DLC for this game, 9/10.

So this dlc is basically a first person boss rush and that's not a bad thing. There is a bit of story to be had in this one too. I'm quite satisfied because I love Boxhead (my favorite character in the gamet besides Laura) and this portion gives you a bit of insight to who he is and what his purpose is in the story you experienced. It gives you a different perspective and you feel powerful because you're a essentially a boss character. The difficulty only spikes toward the end, other than that this dlc is a breeze. The arena is nice for earning currency to unlock upgrades and there is surprisingly a nice range of weapons. You're not just stuck with the hammer. It's a good 2.5 hours content of dlc. Not bad at all, worth it.

Are you fed up with zombies chasing after you? Do you want to just attack them relentlessly without worrying about ammo? Do you like hammers? If you answered "yes" to any of these, you might want to check out this DLC. In The Executioner, Mobius has sent a girl into STEM. Then they send you, her father, to get her out of STEM. Brilliant plan, Mobius. So how do you get her out? By becoming The Keeper (the safe-head guy), and painting the Victoriano Estate red and pink with the blood and brain matter of its residents. Smash their heads with a hammer, cut them in half with a chainsaw, throw them into spikes, do anything you want to the enemies. They've become nearly-harmless meat-puppets for you to plow your way through. Don't get me wrong, The Executioner isn't without challenge: you'll have to face off with some of the bosses from the main game, using your arsenal to chip away at their health. For each one you kill, you get a new weapon or upgrade to buy at the shop.
BEFORE YOU BUY
Just because you liked The Evil Within, does not mean you will like The Executioner. They are very different experiences. The Executioner should be viewed as a nearly completely different game that merely uses the same assets as the main game. Here's a list of the biggest differences between The Executioner and The Evil Within, so you can make an educated purchase:

First-Person view: This alone greatly changes the feel of the game.
Limited mobility: Sebestian Castellanos and Juli Kidman may have been able to jump over obstacles and run in any direction, but in The Executioner you have to walk around obstacles and you can only run forward.
Melee-focused combat: A full arsenal contains 3 melee weapons, 3 thrown weapons (including the barbed wire trap), and 1 ranged weapon. Nearly all the fighting will be up close and personal.
Very little resource management: Your side weapons do have an ammo count, but this is mainly a brawler. Run up to enemy, smash them with hammer, dodge their attacks (half the time you don't even need to dodge), rinse and repeat.
Glory kills and health bars: These by themselves don't change the game that much, but it gives you an idea of the direction this DLC leans towards.
Of the three DLCs for the Evil Within, the Executioner wins 1st place for ingenuity. In this DLC you take the role of a Keeper bashing to bits all kinds of enemies. Great stuff.

Well, i am giving this a thumbs up, it concludes the evil within experience with a definitely more action oriented dlc than both brilliant Kidman Dlc's. So should you get it? It depends. This dlc is the weakest content in the entire package. It is still worth playing through IF you still want to play some more evil within, and likely will last you between 1 and 2 hours depending on your pace... I would say, buy the season pass, it is worth it for the kidman dlc's alone ( the two first dlc's ). This one you could consider a bonus. If, for some reason, you decide to buy the dlc's individually, this one is not something you will lose sleep over. The turn they took with playing as the keeper is a weird one. The game passed from a great 3rd person action horror game to a first person melee beat em up in this dlc. The story is not good and the places you will visit are places you visited in the main campaign with sebastien. It is fun to upgrade your stats with coins you collect by killing enemies. And also you get to fight some of the main bosses playing as the keeper. So, know what to expect and you will have fun. But if going in, you anywhere in your head have the intent of not liking it and want to be hard on it, you won't like it and you will find a lot to criticize. On the other hand, you go in to find just a couple hours more of fun in the universe, you will be happy.
