In response to the developer "updating" the game, I repurchased at the lower price point and will re-review the game... It's still a mess. I'm aware that the Dev is 17 years old, and that this person hopes that I will do a more "relevant" review, by which I assume they mean showering praises upon them. So sure, I'll start with some positives: It's a real undertaking to make a game, even one as short as this, and for a 17 year old to pull this off, well, I'm impressed. Like I said before, the sound design is much better than some indies out there, and the paintings (repetetive though they may be) look phenomenal, and the wobble while walking was executed very well! That being said, I purposely put myself through the experience again in order to see whether the "significant changes" were really that, or not... and unfortunately, they were not... The new narrations have very good voice acting, but sadly do not blend well in the game. It was better with no talking because it let the immagination run wild. The very few spoops I got the first time around were due to the silence and my immagination, but this second time around, nothing. The door at the start still opens inwards and breaks immersion, there are spots where you can see pieces of the level that do not connect (ceiling mostly), there are still weird invisible walls that make navigation tedious and chore-like, the newspaper sound is literally 5 seconds long of chip bag crunching sound and fades out (newspapers don't do that), where the floor and walls meet could use some moulding so it doesn't look like the building was set on a flat expanse of wood flooring, etc. The one thing that frustrated me more than anything was the looping mechanic not being seamless. I could have forgiven alot of the other stuff if it wasn't for that specific thing. I was hoping that this would have been fixed and that the "fade to black/ wake up in bed" thing would have been nixed in favor of the hallways endlessly looping (except for death and a few select story moments where it would make sense to start back in the first bedroom. I'm trying to be honest about this game, and AM NOT attacking the Developer personally, nor do I condone others using foul language towards the dev, even though I understand peoples' frustration at the "quick cash grab PT clones" that saturate the market these days. The developer clearly spent some time on this game, and what was essentially a few people working on this, it is a completely coherent experience which is rare in the age of games getting cancelled left and right. I salute the Dev for their hard work so far! It is still priced too high though. This is still a dollar game masquerading as a 5 dollar game. If you see this for a buck or .50 cents, then by all means pick it up. It is a mildly entertaining 15 minutes of gameplay. I'm leaving my original review up, as it still stands. The "significant update" was 1 new hallway and some narration from the main character. Considering that it was updated overninght, I'm assuming it was content that was already built and got added back in, which is fine, but ulitmately, the "update" didn't really fix any of the problems. I really hate to write negative reviews, but this experience was poor, and the initial handling of the release (and pricing) were not done professionally. I do hope the Dev takes this as constructive criticism and not bashing, and uses it towards making a new game that builds upon the experience that this game has provided them, or in truly polishing this game. Hope this clears up any misunderstanding! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: It pains me to write this, as I'm a big fan of short horror experiences... This is a .99 cent game that is being passed off as an $11 game... For experiences like these, reviewing them as "games" is a bit difficult because they are more akin to interactive film, so I will be judging from that perspective. As a "filmic" experience, this game is NOT one... MINOR SPOILERS: The story itself is thinly laid out in a series of newspaper clippings that are essentially the SAME asset with a headline changed each time, accompanied by the most ungodly crunching noise that goes on, and on, and on. Apparently, you play as a child who may or may not have experienced something not so savory at a park one time, and a bunch of people died, etc. At the beginning, you awake in a bedroom, and you go through a hallway until opening a door, and...FADE TO BLACK...(Loading...) You wake up in the same bedroom, go back through the same hallway, spoop happens, and you once again open a door and...FADE TO BLACK...(Loading...) Lather, rinse, repeat... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now I love a good abstract story, minimal gameplay, and "photorealistic" graphics as much as the next chap, but unfortunately in this case, all three were executed amateurly. I encountered multiple visual bugs, weird invisible walls that kept me from advancing, and even a strange moment where I couldn't discern whether there was a puzzle built out of purposeful visual bugs, or if there was a timer on the door unlocking allowing me back out into the main hallway. It just felt like a "game-jam" game, and not a polished piece of horror. Graphically, this game is subpar by a few miles, maybe more...maybe light years... Some assets looked good (read: paintings), and some assets looked terrible (read: everything else), but the one thing the dev truly nailed was the light wobble when walking. Visually, it was the best thing in the game, because even the flashlight (which magically appears for a loop, and then disappears just as quickly) looks...bad... Speaking of unpolished; the loop mechanic was aggravating because it's essentially a load screen at the end of the hallway, and then you wake up at the beginning, with no ryhme or reason. In fact, there really wasnt much reasoning going on here; and geez dev, would it kill you to make the first door open into the hallway rather than the bedroom? It really kills the immersion when I have to keep clipping through the door... The reason PT was a jewel was polish, polish, and more polish. This game (Apt. 999 or whatever...) could very well have been used as a prototype to pitch a game that would end up polished after many years of hard work. The one positive I can give about the game was the sound design. It was decent. Even then, the newspaper noise is ridiculous (sounds like someone slowly crumpling a bag of chips right next to your ear), re-using the same lightbulb pop over and over wasn't great either, and these were just some of the ones I noticed due to their "cringey" (Is that a word? It is now...) repetition. I wont say anything specific about the ending so as to not spoil it for anyone who really wants to pay $11 bucks for this game, but lets just say that I was extemely unimpressed with how it was executed. Also, it's literally a 30 min experience if even, and that was mostly due to the horribly confusing "puzzles" which kept me locked in an area until I looked at something, or read something. So yeah, all in all, bad news bears. Stay away unless you're a friend of the developer and want to show them support, which I believe everyone deserves. It's just that this game shouldn't be on Steam, and if it had to be, then it should have been a free to play experience. (Maybe a Patreon option somewhere for the developer, you know, because "Peace and Love" and helping your fellow humans....) If you've read this far, I salute your determination. I really, truly am sorry that I cannot recommend this game, but I just can't... 2 out of 5 stars... Refund requested... (EDIT: for grammar & spelling) (EDIT 2: review 2

I bought the game at 3,34 euro so I walked into the game without high expectations. It's hard to put an exact score on this game because of its price point, and from my understanding, the dev is only 17 years old. The game is very mediocre and the quality and gameplay can be compared to much of what you find on Gamejolt for free. The game wasn't bad, but it didn't pull me into the atmosphere that is needed for a horror game to be succesfull and scary. On a side note, my game time after finishing it is 0.2 hours so it isn't a lengthy game either. The story is typical for an indie horror game and nothing special that I hadn't seen before. Minor spoiler...
The ending was rather abrupt and heppened right after the "scarier" parts finally started happening.
One REALLY positive note about the short story is that it is well paced which you don't see often on indie horror games. There is definitely potential behind the young developer of this game, but I think a bit more research on how other succesfull horror games are done could do a lot here to give it that extra push it needs. I would gladly give future projects another change.

An extremely crude and excruciatingly boring P.T. rip-off (aka: a "walking down the same stretch of spooky corridor with minor variations" simulator). Shoddy sound effects, poor voice acting, frig-all story...this game's idea of a "jump scare" is to have a toilet flush loudly nearby. I crap you not. It's also so darkly lit that I spent a couple of minutes walking up and down a hallway, trying to work out what the game wanted me to do next...before I accidentally picked up a scrap of paper with a news story on it. (I think it was attached to a darkened patch of wall?) Suffice it to say, I spent the rest of the game walking around spamming everything with the "E" button. Gotta love a good "strategy" game! I almost gave up altogether in an alleged (i.e. near-empty) "storage room" whose door refused to re-open...until I looked up a review that said there was a glitch that required you to stand by the sofa for several seconds. Some impressive "puzzle design" right there! I mean: what kind of fool doesn't know that loitering next to sofas is a sure-fire way to unlock stubborn doors?! I was slapping myself on the forehead for minutes after that one... The only "plus" I can think of (and I'm being generous here): this game does have a tiny shred of atmosphere. That's it. That's what the 2.5/10 is for. And that said: it's hard not to be a tiny bit unsettling with someone continually blowing random, discordant notes from a kid's flute/recorder in your ear for most of the game. And oh man, those super-loud and super-long "screwing up a piece of paper" sound effects... Keep your money, and spare your ears. Nothing to see here, and definitely nothing that you'll want to hear. (It is refreshingly short, though, at well under twenty minutes. Small frigging mercies, eh?) Verdict: 2.5/10. One of the dumbest games I've ever played. Very sloppy controls, stupid story, repetitive gamepplay. There is nothing enjoyable about this game. It's just a waste of time.

I have to admit I picked this game up and forgot about it. Looking for a horror game to help forget the horrors going on in my real life I saw Apartment 666, with a minimal amount of achievements and figured what the HEY OK.. I wasn't expecting much going in with Mostly Negative reviews, but I said at worst i'll waste 3 minutes of my life downloading it and another 20 seconds deleting it if it wasn't worth it.. The premise of the game is you are a 12 year old boy who awakes at 3 a.m and wanders through his empty apartment, in search of his parents, I guess.. The story what little exist is told through various news paper articles you pick up.. Most are the same but with a keen eye you'll notice they eventually change to reveal the story to you.. One of the biggest complains I've seen from the negative reviews was the bugs in the game,, I have to admit I encountered one myself when a door I was supposed to enter slammed shut in my face.. Aside from that issue I had no other ones.. Gameplay The game is a minimal walking simulator, on paper the game looks boring and fairly uninteresting, but IMO, for the price of 1.99 it's a very creepy and unnerving experience. I'm not easily scared, and walking down the hallway with the various lighting effects and creepy noises had me feeling a bit unnerved, waiting and wondering when something creepy would leap out of the darkness and give me a game over screen.. Pointing out the shortcomings of a budget priced game would be useless, the cost is less then a cup of coffee and I was pretty impressed with my experience.. If I had one complaint it would be the game won't last long enough for cards to drop.. Recommendation I'd recommend this game, decent price, creepy and unnerving experience.. BTW make sure you have your sounds turned on and the lights turned off for maximum effect..

Apartment 666 is a short game with a short list of merits. ===== CONS: - All the Nothings: I kept walking into the Nothings, and they were a bit annoying. Every time I tried to walk a corner, a Nothing blocked me and I had to walk around. Too much Nothing to collide into :l - Voices: The child voice (protagonist) seems very dejected the entire time, and some of his lines are unbelievably bad. As for the other voices involved, such as the sobbing (read: laughing?) man, it was just laughable. The only good voice was of the little girl whispering. But.. not good enough to merit a positive, imo. - Lack of story: There seems to be a very underwhelming story here. The only information you get is from news articles and a flash back in a "PACK" (spelling error) that tells you little to nothing about what happened aside from that the kid talked to "monsters" and that its likely his uncle and/or father kidnapped him and killed everyone else...? Maybe I'm missing something here, but, it feels very loose. Not like one of those games where you are expected to suss out the story by interaction and exploration; there's nowhere to explore and minimal interactions. Its more like its spoon-feeding you bits and pieces of an incomplete narrative that leads, ultimately, nowhere good. - Slow build-up: Normally that would be a good thing, but it really leads nowhere. One of the best things about PT, which this is consistently being compared to, was that it started slow and unassuming. Slowly, gradually, over time, it built up, and added a more and more dark tone to the setting, and things would twist and mutate around you, almost seamlessly, so that the player would become more and more uncomfortable and immersed in the environment. This game tries to emulate that feeling with a slow build that leads nowhere, aside from a few phoned in jumpscares that I had a hard time feeling scared by, or "jumpy" about. - Glitches: I ran into a fair share of glitches... most notably when stuck in a hallway, or a room, and the triggers that were meant to open or unlock doors didn't work. I found myself stuck in a hallway for a good few minutes before shutting the game off because there were only 3 doors, in an almost pitch-black hallway, and none of them would open. Usually there's a trigger that isnt inherently obvious, but when it gets to the point where the only interactions you can perform do nothing, and there's no sense is continuing, its frustrating to say the least. Immersion is broken (what little there was), and interest greatly wanes. PROS: + Visuals: The assets used in the game (some voices aside) were really well done. Aside from the odd mismatch of textures, it didn't look bad, per se, but rather just interesting. A good looking game. ===== Would I recommend Apartment 666? No. Read through the discussion pages and see that there are multiple people who run into glitches/errors, an unlockable achievement that is apparently "working" even when it doesn't, and a very limited amount of content. I'd say this game isn't worth your time... It looks good, but, looks aren't everything. Pass.

I really wanted to like this game becuase I love horror games, but sadly it was not very good. The controls feel clunky and stiff. I get stuck trying to navigate. The voice acting is very bad. Sometimes I would get stuck in a room and have to open and close the paper to activate the door to unlock. Sadly the game was not very good. I feel as if the developers took more time with the game it would have been a better experience.

Apartment 666 definitely gets its inspiration from P.T, which is nice for someone like me, who is still pretty sore over losing Silent Hills. A pox upon thine house, Konami. While certainly a short game (roughly a half hour of gameplay), I found the atmosphere to be spot-on. It definitely left me with twinges of dread traversing the various alternate hallways. More than once I stepped out of the room I was entering after stuff started occuring with an adamant, "NOPE. Hell no." There are a few noticeable graphical artifacts, such as a space between your bedroom doorframe and the hallway and small amounts of texture issues in certain locations that I presume occur from lighting or texture overlapping, but it is all very minor and easily overlooked. Heck, I came to rely on that crack in the doorframe to give me an idea what to expect upon opening the door each time. I'm what you call a courageous soul! More concerning was a couple of points in the game where it seemingly glitched and left you trapped. This was most apparent in the "storage room" area, but also happened at a few other points as well, and left me to get mentally pulled out. However, I am actually uncertain if this is a glitch or an intended bit of gameplay, considering how I figured out to solve the problem. Each time the "glitch" would take place I seemed to be able to fix it by merely walking over every bit of the floor. Again, I am not sure if this is an intended logic puzzle or I just happened to get lucky. The third achievement does not seem to unlock currently, and may be glitched, although I suppose it's also possible it was intended to show curious players what the mostly-unseen antagonist actually looks like. The story ended suddenly and in a pretty lackluster and clichéd manner that didn't feel like it fit precisely into the narrative, though the game was obviously hinting at that final moment (or one quite similar to it) throughout the game. But one must take into account how young the developer is, and that the Indie team that worked on it was extremely small. I am a writer by nature, and I would state that the story narrative is not bad when comparing it to my own high school writing. Although it may detract for certain would-be fans, I willingly accepted it. Overall, I would place the game somewhere between the original Slender game and SCP-087-B in terms of scare factor. So long as you can weigh the pros and the cons and are just looking for a decent atmospheric scare for a while, and have a little coin, it's not a bad purchase for a low price. I've seen the game go on sale - I would say that is the time to consider picking it up.

This game in detailed review: Summary: The graphics and stellar audio/atmosphere make this game worth every penny 3$. Also the interesting plot twist towards the end leaves the story in a great place for a sequel/prequel. So this game looks great from the trailer and screenshots, the atmosphere which is being depicted in the trailer seems worth testing out. So I got this game for a bit over 3$ and this is what I think. Nothing in the game is not what the trailer advertises, the part which is shown in the trailer is in the game just a bit different. Also the gameplay in the trailer is like the gameplay of this game. On my Macbook I was getting a smooth 60 fps and that too on the "High" Graphics setting. The audio in this game is stellar, the atmosphere which is built makes you want to not move forward in the apartment yet make you want to explore more. Every time you "wake up'" The hallways stay mostly the same but rooms change which I thought was neat that some rooms keep changing and different stuff happens. The gameplay itself is interesting there are some "puzzles" which may be a bit difficulting however I found that this game requires you have a lot of "attention to detail" for example it's always a good idea to look at the pictures of the wall, which look stellar, the reflections are great. Also in one loop there is furniture you might want to go near it to be able to proceed (hint) (hint). Overall for 3$ this game is great buy for several reasons: Firstly the graphics and the vibe is great. Not many 3$ games offer such great graphics and optimization, I was shocked it ran so smoothly on my Macbook. Secondly the audio: What's a horror game without great audio and atmosphere? This game does a decent job in it's atmosphere, from the rain to this swing noise which kept changing source, making me want to explore where the noise was coming from. The suspense is the strong part behind this game the audio adds this suspense that something will happen and the slightest movements by me or within the game send a chill down your spine. Thirdly the story (kinda): The plot twist at the end was a bit unique I didn't really expect it happening. Leaves a lot of room for future updates/dlcs/games. Overall: Buy this game if you want a great suspense game, this game makes you want to finish it to find out more of what's happening within the game, secondly if you LOVE the game PT like I do, you will love this, of course it's not like it but it has some resemblances and it makes your need to play a game of such sorts come true. Get this game, for this price it's great!
