  I used to absolutely love this game. The game is fun, and is much like [i]Worms[/i] (only at the time, there were no 3D [i]Worms[/i] games which made this unique at the time), only with pigs and some hysterical yet hilariously crude voice acting from Rik Mayall (RIP). I've had it for both PS1 and PC before, and it is a childhood favourite. So why don't I recommend the game? To look at, the PC one is much nicer than the PS1 version, with the graphics being smoother and, unlike the PS1 version, where multiple of the heavy weapons (bazooka, mortar etc) had the same white, cannon-like model, all of the weapons have their own unique model that matches their menu icon. Despite this, the PC version has multiple quite drastic flaws which sadly make the game unplayable on PC. -The AI is as thick as pig shit. On the PS1 version, they would move to tactical points and make intelligent decisions, especially in later levels. However, on the PC one, unless they jetpack to a weapon crate, they rarely move, if they do at all. I've been able to trick the AI into killing via friendly fire before by standing parallel to two of them. He tried to shoot me with a sniper rifle and killed his team mate instead. -From what I remember, the music is bugged. Memories of playing this on the PS1 remind me of how good the soundtrack actually is for this game, but from what I remember of playing it on my PC many moons ago, the music often didn't play when it should do, and at times, the wrong music would play. Whilst this might not be the biggest issue, it is still very annoying. -Most importantly of all, if you have Windows 8 or higher, the game is unplayable, full stop. From what I have read, this is down to the development team no longer having the source code for the game, and thus would have to remake the game from scratch to make it playable for Windows 8 onwards. Seeing as most computers that are used for games now have Windows 8 or higher, this is a major issue. Don't get me wrong. [i]Hogs of War[/i] is a fantasic game, but only on the PS1. If you are able to get a copy of the old PS1 version and still have a PS1 or a PS2 to play it on, I highly recommend it. As far as buying the PC version through Steam though? I wouldn't bother, which is a true shame, as I absolutely adore this game.

  The reasons you shouldn't buy this version: [list] [*]The game doesn't support modern resolutions. [*]The sound ballancing is messed up with music much louder than the character voices and SFX, the pigs one-liners (one of the main reasons to play this game). [*]The controls are mapped wrong with no clear way to remap. [*]There are bugs and other issues you would expect from an emulated game not something you pay for. [*]Devs have stated they will not update this product because they lack the source code. [/list] Even if you loved the game on PS1 and are dying for nostalgia this is just going to dissapoint you.

  I loved this game on the PS1, but whoever did the port to PC did a pretty bad job. The game constantly crashes, and when it does, it locks up Windows, meaning you have to restart your PC or log off. What playtime I did get in consisted of buggy (but good) music that doesn't play at the right times, controls obviously not made for PC, and AI so braindead that they don't MOVE. The PS1 version of this game is superb and while it is inferior only graphically, it is at least, unlike this, playable. Pros: Graphics are better than the PS1 version Voice acting (Rik Mayall is great) Cons: Control scheme is awful on PC and makes accuracy-based weapons near impossible to use in the time limit given Music is bugged and either won't play or plays at the wrong time AI are bugged and do not move unless knocked back by outside forces Game crashes a lot and I couldn't progress past mission 8 When the game crashes, it locks up your entire PC, forcing a restart Game isn't even playable on anything but Windows XP, Vista or 7 It is a shame because this game is a lot of fun, but this version is vastly inferior. Get the PS1 version.

  This is one of my favorite childhood games!! I used to play it on PlayStation 1 and I loved it! It was also possible to play pvp, which was the REAL enjoyment! I knew the entire game by heart, but I never managed to complete it perfectly! NOW is my chanse to do exactly that! I fully recommend this game to everyone! 10/10

  This game is my childhood in a nutshell. I know everything and anything to do with the game. Each time I play it it just seems to get better and better! A must play for anyone concerned.

  Bought this just to review it to counter some of the negative reviews. Owned it in the CDROM days. Yes there are some compatability issues, but the game ran fine for me, only required a logoff/on to unfreeze desktop after playing. This review is for the game underneath those problems. It is Worms 3D, before Team17 figured out how to do it in 3D. Except with pigs and Rik Mayall doing a variety of regional and universally racist accents. 10/10 Would go to war just to hear Rik call me a Grand Fromage again.

  Be CAREFUL when buying. This review is for the benefit of customers, please read before proceeding to buy. This is not an official Hogs of War file, it is a third party file which has found its way to Steam. This is not a pay and play game, it is a pay, find out the game will not run on your current device and then see when you do eventually download additional files and make changes to your machine to get it running, even then, there are many bugs in the file, from missing landscapes to incorrect music. With enough effort and will you will be able to get this game running and working, how well depends on your perseverance and even then there will be limitations! But if you are desperate for that nostalgia then you will likely be able to feed it with this file, but do not expect a smooth experience. I do wonder if Infogrames Sheffield are receiving their part for what we are paying for this game. Despite its low price we are paying real money for a service that Infogrames brought to us.
