  A couple years ago I was looking for a dark horror rpg and I found this game and I bought it without quite realizing there wasn't an English translation even though it seemed like one was forthcoming (there is an unofficial one now). When I realized that I couldn't play this game in English I just sorta groaned and was like oh well and then I looked into the series more. I then found and played Vampires Dawn 2 for free with a really good English translation. I am going to try and keep this review brief because I do tend to ramble a lot. Vampires Dawn 2 was a free RPG maker game in the mid 2000s that really did a lot of impressive things even if the gameplay a person could get tricked and stuck on, I didn't and yea. The characters were really interesting and I liked how the game was laid out. I completed it and was satisfied. I think the character interactions while justified aren't very enjoyable if you didn't play the 2nd game. So playing this game without any prior knowledge I do think hurts actually, sad to say. The 1st one can be skipped but, I don't feel like this game ever eases you into it until much later. At least with that context from the second game you can understand why a lot of times everyone is so incendiary to each other. The 2nd game felt like it was more sarcastic but not mean from the start. As for the game game. I think I am nearing the end and a little drunk but it's a good indie rpg about vampires and does honestly keep things interesting. There are no overworld encounters anymore and you can just bat fly anywhere for free rather early on, I did find it odd how I couldn't find a lot of the hidden areas on my own or at my own level without the Sixth Sense spell. But hey no random encounters people love that stuff now right? I guess to end this, I feel like for an rpg about vampires with an actual horror setting this is worth the standard price I paid for too. Just be sure to not waste your filar on frivolous crap (the game does set you up good on the standard normal difficulty) . The game tells you to invest in the silver mines (and I played where they only paid out 10 filar no matter how many mines you had). I never ran out of money. Just beware that as you level up the cost of things goes up too. Also I was attacking some vampires that didn't like me early on to try and level up and get abilities they were tough fights but worth it. I say be aggressive but smart, I am looking forward to see what this new game plus is about. I recommend this game. I want to ramble more about it, and I think this game is good.

  "Egnlish version will be available in Q3 2021." End of 2022 still nothing. Fans had to come and translate it for the developer, even though the trailer and screenshots are in english. Sad.

  Well, first, dont be surprised by tons of german reviews and guides as english translation was added only recently. I usually dont bother with RPGMaker games, unless its horror-quests. But this game is good, albeit a bit grindy sometimes. This occasional grindiness comes mostly from the fact that fights here can be hard, and you need to pay attention to things. The plot is okay too. So basically, if you like pixel rpg games with hard gameplay and decent plot, then it is a good option.

  Gameplay is good, it looks good and has some quirky fun in it. BUT... tldr: Illusion of choice and a railroading story completely ruin this promising game. *SPOILERS* The story is the biggest punch to face ever. After all this whiney BS one had to endure throughout the first 2 games with Valnar constantly being the biggest bitch and Alaine being a backstabbing cunt, you finally get to completely play as Asgar and set things right. Only to be forced to continue to endure Alaine bitching and whining again. After finding out that she doesn't know where the Book or the Fragments endet up, you don't even get the option to kill and continue without her! Why keep her??? It makes no sense at all! All that it leads to is the group getting lured into an Elras trap, using a resurected Valnar, who, of course, keeps bitching and moaning and the game forces you to play with him in your group... wtf?! Aside from that, how can Asgar NOT see the connections from the shield emblem??? A ten year old can see what is going on there! 23 hours of game time wasted just because the creators are lazy writers and give you the illusion of choice in an open world RPG game, but it all pulls a Mass Effect or Deus Ex MD/HR and just lets you choose which color of explosion or button you wanna push at the very end. Absolute disappointment.

  Being a fan of the series for quite a while, I was looking forward to this installment. And it delivered on almost all aspects of the game. The combat, the mood, the story, the characters, it all blended in quite well. Then there were two issues I just couldn't overlook and which bring me to a negative review: - The (verbal) abuse of female characters and the objectification of women in the story. - The lack of character personality development. The characters start with their ideals and goals and refuse to change them, no matter what "choice" is taken during the game. The illusion of choice and the lack of moral consequences weaken the story to a point where I was looking forward to just finish the game. What I wish for Vampires Dawn 4: - Involve more people in the dialog writing, at least some female authors and maybe even add some diversity to the people one encounters in the game. Make them feel like real people, not just by giving them names, but by giving them life. - Either give the player the ability to actually change the characters' values and goals during the game by making decisions or remove the illusion of choice. It's ok to have characters without personal development as long as it clearly communicated. - Keep up the good communication on your website and the frequent updates after release, this is great. Thank you for making this game a reality and I'm looking forward to an even better Vampires Dawn 4.
