Dungeon Core Features

Take the role as a liquidator descending down the sewers and beyond to destroy an old abandoned nuclear core. The core is a relic from an old, failed experiment where the goal was to mutate creatures and use them as weapons. But... the mutants wouldn't be controlled and the government abandoned the project, sealing off every entrance. They deny any involvement. However, the mutants are still down there, gradually making their way up... Unless, you can destroy the core?!

Dungeon Core is a challenging roguelite top-down shooter that has an "all-hope-is-lost"-vibe, but is it?

Features

  • Permanent upgrades to help you on your journey

  • A dozen of weapons that can be upgraded with stats

  • Lots of items & upgrades

  • Unique dungeons each time you play

  • Multiple themes

  • Play with mouse/keyboard or a controller

Binding of Isaac meets Rogue Legacy! I really like this game. It reminds me of The Binding of Isaac (which is one of my favorite games) but this is a different game, a bit harder at start and has a lot of different mechanics it being roguelite type. Will definitely finish it, I just need to grind for better stats and to get to know enemies a little bit. I think this is a must buy for roguelike/roguelite games fans and most definitely for Binding of Isaac fans. https://youtu.be/NANjZe-OiwU

Not sure where to start but this game needs a lot of more content and overall polish. Basically I have finished this game after 5hours, its pretty fast as for rogue like with very grindy permament upgrades. Things that are not ok: - hitboxes for laser weapons. I just hate to shoot through the enemy with big charged laser to see that my hit was not registered. - weapon recoil: Yes it should be there, but not for bow, six shooter (or any other slow shooting gun) where you need to aim perfectly. It just makes them horrible. - upgrade system: You collect 'money' for shooting things, you can spend them in the shop on every level (for keys, weapons, heal, etc) however you need this money to do permament upgrades after you die (also you will get only about 40% money after you die, don't remember how much was it on the start as you can upgrade it to lose less). For me it was just collecting money and not buying things in the shop so I can do permament upgrades first which makes game boring and unnecessary grindy. - upgrade system again: upgrades are boring, only 1 character, no specialization, you basically put all your money to earn more money and lose less money. Wonderful desing - just a few guns: Not sure how many guys are there but I think I have spotted about 10 different gunys, where half of them just suck. Also you can upgrade a weapon for weapon parts so you just wait for one gun you like, upgrade it and forget about all you find as you won't get better quality than the one you just upgraded. Things that are ok: Really not sure what to write here... I think I am too frustrated to see any pros as I was collecting all permament upgrades to get more money per run and the game just finished. I wasn't even upgrading damage or more health.

Dungeon Core is an ation-roguelite twin stick shooters heavily inspired by Enter the Gungeon but with permanents upgrades and nowhere near the variety of items/guns and lack of gameplay tightness. The game is fun with decent combat and is very difficult. The small numbers of items/Guns are unfortunatly not that exciting if you've been spoiled by Gungeon and Binding of Isaac. Additionaly, unlike Enter the Gungeon, this game gets much easier as you advance. The most frustrating part however that makes me unable to recommend this game is the extreme lack of clarity. There are too many "colorful" monsters and bullets. Some bosses have the same color bullets as yours as it's impossible to dodge anything when you have bouncing bullets.

is this an old school flash game?, if not, this is a joke. it has potential but thats it, there are only like 10 guns and 15 items and 4 bosses in the game. metaprogress is done really badly, and the hitbox of the character is the worst. dont waste your money on this crap.

If you liked Enter the Gungeon, you'll probably like this too. The weapons and items aren't too varied. But it plays well, has juicy audio and decent visuals.

I'll change my review to positive when I can play with a controller. I like to play these types of games with controller, but currently there is a game breaking bug/glitch that happens when using a controller. The character continues to move in the same direction you started until your gun's mag is empty. So you can end up walking into a pit, running right into danger, etc. In fact, it happens to a smaller extent even with the semi-auto weeapons. To be clear the game would be like 8/10 if not for this game breaking issue. So in its current state I cannot play. FYI I'm not the only person to post about this in discussions.

Decent rogue-lite with a solid foundation when it comes to gameplay and visual clarity, that being said, it takes good ideas from other games and adds nothing unique to the formula, which is fine unless you like me and looking for more innovation in the genre. I would like to see more active abilities, perhaps in a form of sub-weapons with a cooldown, right now you are limited to alternating between 2 weapons. It does not have a ton of content, but the difficulty of the last section will keep you grinding for stats. There are many temporary and permanent upgrades, granted most of them are passive or have a passive effect that triggers under certain condition, which again, is not an active ability that I can use. So far the weapons are not very exciting, while you can get the generic arsenal from pistols to lasers, I am yet to find anything that really stands out. When you die you keep a portion of your money which can be used in the hub to unlock permanent upgrades like health, damage and even improved stage layout - so even if you struggle, the character will get stronger over time. I wouldn't say it's too easy, once you get to the second zone the enemies can get very spammy and I often find myself running out of health, although I think the difficulty is just right, it's challenging but not unfair. The enemies have telegraphed attacks and you can also stagger them in the process, so when I die it's usually because I was not paying attention. In general, the visuals in the game are very intuitive, it's not too populated with particle effects which makes it easy to spot the hitboxes.
Pros:
+ polished visuals and telegraphed enemy attacks + enjoyable gameplay, fair difficulty + some progression, in the hub and even improving the store + achievements
Feedback:
General Feedback - you should allow the player to skip the tutorial. If you get stunned, I think you should be immune to the follow-up stun for 0.5 seconds so enemies don't chain stun you. I don't like the reload animation as it's not clear when it will be over, why not just indicate the bar going from start to finish. When the game counts rewards upon death, it seems like you can stop it in the middle and you will get fewer points. Also, I am not a huge fan of the stun on the dash as it gets me in trouble more often than getting me out of it, maybe it should slow you down a little instead. I would like to see some active sub-weapons - using 2 basic attacks is not very exciting, the game should get more complex over time, maybe you can have 1 slot for active sub-weapons with different effects on the cooldown. 2 weapons only, but why? - I really do not like that you can only hold 2 weapons at a time and also you can't shoot both of them, maybe some weapons could be 2 handed and others could be dual-wielded, but you would have to compensate in terms of balance and make 2 handed weapons stronger. At the very least, maybe you could have another slot for 2 weapons so you could press a button and switch between 2 load-outs. Overall Thoughts: Even though it's a good start for an early access rogue-lite that has no obvious problems, I feel like the developer is playing it very safe, not taking any risk with unique ideas, and honestly, this genre is so oversaturated with games that play exactly the same, I want to see more gimmicks that make each game unique. The core gameplay is fine, I am enjoying it, but at the same time, I want to see more than just shooting one of 2 weapons. Additionally, the game could use more 'risk vs reward' elements, right now I can only think of one mechanic that kind of does it. So i managed to beat the game after 3 weeks from buying it... I must say that it wasn't long at all but very difficult, took me 3 weeks to arrive at 2nd boss and beat him, from there it went quite quick. Once you are powered up game's not that difficult anymore and is very enjoyable. For the price you get a decent game, not that long, but quite fun to learn.
