  Only get it if you know you like fighting games. It's good but I do worry that by the time it's finished people will have either forgotten about it or moved on. Fighting games are a niche genre at the best of time.

  Its a solid fighter, very smooth, with really fun characters. They're so great, design, movesets are solid, style is wonderful. It plays pretty well also, between the linking and cancelling. If you're used to japanese 2d fighters, you'll be at home here. The stages are all too similar and boring though. The color palettes are very similar on all of them and there's not really any stages IMO that stand out or you look forward to like so many in the street fighter games, some of the DOA or KOF games. The game is fun but imo its not exciting since its very muted, soft and sleepy. I wouldn't watch it on a tourney, and I'd likely hop to a different game if I had the opportunity. It just doesn't pack a punch in its presentation, between the stages, the supers, the announcer. Its not exciting. Its mechanically good, but its not exciting.

  I'd prefer if the game wasn't just street fighter and actually had it's own bit of identity behind instant lag cancels.

  I love this game . I will install it again when its finished or at least when it has arcade and or story mode. Big fan of the game play and the aesthetic, but sadly now online its a wasteland and aside training mode (incredibly rich training mode) and isolated cpu-versus there's little to do.. Game is incredibly polished as is now and seems to be receiving constant developments and update, but at a real slow pace as is done by only 3 people. SO: if you want a big roster and being able to jump online right away, maybe just wait on this one. If you're patient enough and/or have friends to play local or to make online lobbies to play with, (the net code is real good) and you're into well crafted footsie based fighters, this will be your jam. Game have a very active discord where you can get matches if you're willing to go the extra mile tho. I personally buy it to support development and i'm really pleased so far to see how good the game is getting. I really hope the game get more players when eventually gets out of early development, but anyway, im happy with my purchase so far, as i see it as an investment. Hope this is useful.

  Update 12/8/2018, a little over one year after purchase - This is easily the single best indie fighting game on the entirety of the PC market. The gameplay is extremely deep and varied due to the combo system. Nobody currently plays any character the same way. Balance is fickle but no character is absurdly strong compared to the rest of the cast, and the developers haven't even begun to truly balance the game. Gameplay is fast paced, complex, yet even a new player will enjoy learning the game and exploring the characters. Netplay uses GGPO, which any FGC member will tell you is the best netcode ever for fighters. Gameplay is buttery smooth, inputs are lenient enough to be fun to learn, but combos are not as easy as a game like SFV where anyone can learn max damage combos in a tiny amount of time. Since the initial release on steam, the developers have added tons of polish to the game, as well as two characters with 2 more on the way. You will not find a more engaged, responsive, and friendly group of developers in any single game on steam. They support the community in any single way they can, even when its not asked of them. Consistent updates and communication on the part of the developers. You can always ask what they are working on, or even see it in real time on their official twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/punchplanetgame Graphics might not look impressive on first glance, but when you play the game you realize how gorgeous they are. Tons of improvements to animations and even something that may seem small like streaking on the animations make the game wonderful to look at. The game is not rendered in 2d, but rather 3d, which gives life to the characters and setting that 2d sprites cannot match. The soundtrack sounds exactly how you would imagine it would be. It is modern, yet still gives off that 80s b-movie sci fi vibe the game is going for. There is a song for every character and stage. You can listen to every song on the official soundcloud, it's one of the rare cases where you can actually listen to the sound track standalone and be entertained. These tournaments are directly supported by the devs which is not something you typically see on indie projects. If you are into fighting games, there isn't a better choice in the indie market than Punch Planet. I didn't know the developers before I bought the game. I can tell you after over a year of owning Punch Planet that it is the single best Early Access purchase I have ever made. I own plenty of games, and have tons of hours in those games, but as Punch Planet grows my hours will as well. Everyone in the FGC should support this game. You will not regret it. 10/10

  It's systems from SF3 and SF4 thrown in a blender with slightly lower execution requirements and the end result is amazing even despite a 4 character roster (Will eventually make it to 8 playable characters). Anyone remotely familiar with 2D fighters will feel right at home with this. +Feels and controls exactly like you would expect from a 6 button fighter. Also shares general inputs from other fighting games like QCF, DP, and 360/720. +Surprisingly clean animations. +Flexible game systems (universal parry, one button FADC, universal shorthop, etc) allow for a lot of [b]SICK[/b] and [b]CREATIVE[/b] combos and setups. +Damage scaling is pretty much perfect where it is at currently. +GGPO netcode makes netplay buttery smooth. +-4 character roster, but those 4 [strike]characters[/strike] [b]functions[/b] are so well designed it's not even really a negative. 10/10. It's a good game. Punk.

  Roy is a bastard. Dog is cool, hes with me. Cid is the chick you don't wanna fuck with. TYara is a badass big booty mamma. OST is great, when you hear those sick synth sounds hit your ear you know fists will be flying in this Sci-Fi Fighter! Art Style is different and unique I myself love it. I know there are some people who are not fond of it but the Art Style and Sci-Fi setting sets this Fighting Game apart from the other fighters. Of course this is Early Access, the game is kinda bare bones at the moment as far as Modes and Features go but the Training Mode (Practice) is pretty in depth. Practice, Versus and Online are currently available. Story Mode, Trials, Features and more characters will be added over time. You can check the patch updates in game to see the progression that has been made so far. I've had a lot of fun so far, this game will only get better as time goes by. If you like fighting games you'll most likely love this indie fighter.

  (Updated review 12/22/2020) Where do I start....... THIS GAME IS AWESOME! I hardly have anything negative to say about this game. If you enjoy 2D style fighting games, with tons of defensive mechanics and solid gameplay, you WILL enjoy Punch Planet! Gameplay: 10/10 This game has super responsive controls, unlike fighting games ive played recently. There is no input delay, it just feels really good to play. The gameplay is very deep and intuitive, giving each player an array of customization in they're fighting style with each character. I've played this game for 792 hours and have yet to run into two people who play a character the same way. Graphics: 10/10 At first look, this game looks like a 2D animated game. No, thats just what the unique art style wants you to think. These are 3D animated characters that have been beautifully rendered and animated with fluidity and it shows. The game looks great in motion and is a joy to watch. Shadows, lighting, and colors are all sharp and sort of pop off of the screen at you. Just gorgeous. Audio: 10/10 The soundtrack of this game will be stuck in your head hours after you play it. The tracks never get old or repetitive. They are unique enough to sound like music you've never heard before in a video game but also destinct enough to leave a lasting impression in your mind. Great music that fits the theme of a fighting game, set in the future, on distant planets in outer space. Overview: The game is a masterpiece. Its in early access right now, but for base price ($20) you get 7/8 playable from the start, 4 stages, practice mode and online pvp. Story/Arcade mode is coming (player vs cpu is now available). Updates are almost quarterly to the game, keeping it fresh and adding to the replay value. There is also a very active and welcoming community in the Punch Planet discord, led up by the three developers. You will have fun and you'll meet a ton of awesome people willing to help you with the game. So something to be wary of when learning a character. Regardless the core gameplay is fairly complete so that should not deviate to far from what it is now. (12/1/19 update) We've recently had an influx of new players to the community due to popular FGC streamers showcasing the game. Tons of new players to play and learn the game with. Myself and others have added guides that are character specific that will help you learn their moves and the game. Tons of tools in the Discord at your disposal, so you don't have to feel like you aren't learning the game. I would highly recommend this game. It is a breath of fresh air to fighting games and has awesome lore supporting the game as well.   Great game for Street Fighter series fans. Feels like great hybrid of SF3 and SF4. Also have ggpo netcode which make possible to play on crazy discances (for example Russia - US West Coast) with really low latency. Also have very nice looking minimalistic retwowave OST and art-style.
