  Review for Volume 1: An excellent entry into the Hiveswap Friendsim universe, you won't necessarily be learning anything new about the characters you've grown to love (Rose/John) but you will find yourself discovering all sorts of things about yourself and experiencing their plights in a brand new context. At this very moment, I'm not sure whether this is because it was intended to be accessible to those who have not read Homestuck or because it assumes we have forgotten some minor details. The attention to detail in this visual novel makes me tip my hat to the programmers and writers-- they even hid a few surprises I won't spoil for now, but needless to say it builds high expectations for the future. Hiveswap Friendsim was an excellent read that kept me invested the entire time, and Pesterquest shows promise to be the same way. This game, like others in the series, internally tracks your progress and tells you if you've completed all the necessary routes-- but you should explore every ending, good and bad, to understand the later parts of the narrative! Let's just say that MSPA reader's memory is... metatextual. The Bad: Needless to say, I was surprised by the number of endings in the first volume, making me suspect I was perhaps missing a piece of the puzzle or wondering if they shared my concern about save spaces in the first Friendsim. In Friendsim, I was unable to preserve all of the panels for victory and failure, and was really hoping that a genuine gallery would have been built into this title so I could peruse the end cards-- instead you must preserve them in save slots, and the limited number eventually becomes a problem when you have to pick and choose which slots to overwrite to save your most recent ending screen. With that in mind, and the relatively few volumes planned for this entry into the series (14), it may not need to be a federal fucking issue and I might be able to keep all of my ending titles without deleting one. There are also no steam cards or achievements, which may not be a deal breaker for some (and in the case of Steam Cards, would be a definite spoiler), but it is something to be aware about when you make the purchase. All in all, the only complaints with Pesterquest are nitpicky at best. It picks up after Hiveswap Friendsim, so you might lose out on some information if you don't begin with that first. Future reviews for other volumes will be forthcoming. Happy swinging through the narrative!
