    Well, I played this game, as I was young and I loved it. It gave me scary nights and fear moments. I still own the original CD but I never could make it run proper on Win 7. So I´m real happy that you can buy it now from steam and it run good on win 7 but only in 1024 x 768 like that. Highly recommended. To bad that is not remastered in HD. Update : I play the game now with the "extra grisby mod" and this is a lot of improvement in sound, graphic & bug fixes just check this out. http://www.moddb.com/mods/blood-2-the-chosen-extra-crispy

    Initially, I thought that Blood 2 was just an unfortunate sequel that came out sometime in 2000's and was lazily made by a different studio – a story similar to Deus Ex and its Invisible War sequel. However, when I saw the actual release date and googled the whole story behind the game's development, I felt really bad for the developers and even didn't want to critisize Blood 2 harshly. Nevertheless, the problem is that at the end of the day those tragic events do not improve the quality of the final product from the player's point of view. For those who don’t know, in short, the publisher of Blood was close to bankruptcy and they demanded Monolith Productions to make a sequel "here and now". And you already can guess the rest: the game quality turned out to be very mediocre and GT Interactive was bought by Atari anyway. Now I could start writing a long review with detailed analysis of every game's aspect, however, I won't do it. Not only because I personally feel bad for the developers but because just the idea of making a full-fledged 3D game with sufficient plot and unique features in 11 months back in 1997 sounds ridiculous enough by itself. From that point of view, I'm surprised that Blood 2 came out as a playable-ish product and not just a laggy-buggy piece of code. However, as I've already stated, the development story doesn't justify the game's quality for the consumer, so I will just give you a list of problems the game has. Let's go! Mostly cramped linear levels Instant-reacting hitscan enemies Weird animations Totally unbalanced difficulties Odd drops from destroying objects Censored swearing OP facejumpers in the water Clumsy transition between levels Flare gun looks like shotgun Repetitive voice lines from enemies Voodoo doll happy particles Stupid AI Weird hitboxes No sniper aiming animation Knife has a bullet-hitting sound Locked and decorative doors look the same No convenient way to bind weapons Enemy damage goes through walls Mouse wheel does not work The game crashes regularly Explosive weapons have insanely low damage Idiotic damage RNG Character speed breaks in the nightmares add-on Initially, it seems fine but the father you go the more miserable it becomes And I could easily finish my review at this point, but the game actually had decent ideas, like 4 playable characters, semi-open world and detailed plot. Some of them even made it to the final game: there are about 20 weapons you can find and use, magic weapons have regenerating ammo, Life Leech heals you, each character has different stats and plays a bit differently. However, those few good ideas just drown in the sea of bugs, poor level design, unbalanced AI, etc. Should you play this game? Well, if you liked the first title and just want to know what Blood 2 is – maybe. If you are looking for a good retro shooter – no. If you like to explore unfinished and quirky games – probably. My only recommendation will be to play it on the lowest difficulty – genocide. Do not waste your nerves and time with the higher ones, it isn't worth it at all.

    If Blood II's screen flickers between the game and an empty window during gameplay, here are a couple of things to try: 1. Turn off any programs in the System Tray with animated icons (e.g. Process Explorer, Speedfan). 2. In the Blood II Launcher, go to Advanced Options, type "+maxfps 60" (without quotes) into the Command-Line field, and check "Always specify these command-line parameters"

    Blood 2 needs a remaster. Despite installing many fixes, it doesn't run well and tends to crash. It looked interesting, but I can't recommend it in this state.

    Very disappointing sequel overall. Even if trying to disregard many technical difficulties, game is still a nonsensical mess. Try it if you want to see how rushed development can damage games. Pros: - Good arsenal; - Decent voice acting; Cons: - Bad AI; - Bunch of technical hurdles; - Nonsensical story; - Unbalanced difficulty settings; - Dull combat; - Bad level design; - Boring enemies;

    I could go on about all the things wrong with this game because there is a lot but since I enjoy this game so much I'd rather just share what I like about it. There are a LOT of guns, usually you can dual weild them too! It's fun to shoot stuff, the animations are great, overall the graphics and 3d models are great. I love the voice acting and humor. Most of the levels are well done and look fantastic. Straight forward linear no BS gameplay, just run n gun and shoot the hell out of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Definitely no Half-Life or Duke 3D or Doom, but definitely fun. P.S. I used to hate this game too.
