  Feedback to the game so far So, I wanna start of by saying that I enjoy this game alot! It reminds me alot of old Flash games of the past. Level selection, the 2D view, graphics, game mechanics it just hits the spot. The Levels stay fresh by the frequent introduction of new game mechanics and units level by level. The game is heavily inspired by Stronghold, I can only imagine the dev must be a huge fan of it. Many of the game mechanics are implemented in an almost 1 to 1 fashion, yet still feel fresh as it's from a different perspective and the old age of the classic strongholds. Also I'm a huge fan of the humorous voice acting, this really puts this game apart from being generic. I like the long drawn out......sire... after most of the pompous sentences. You can tell the voice actors had a lot of fun in the studio recording this and it does the game wonders. Almost feels like a bit of a mockery of strongholds advisor, hilarious. Game is a good challange even on normal, altough I'd have to reassess that, since I only found out on the last level of the first area, that you can increase workers in Lumbercamps and Quarrys, making your eco much stronger early on. The levels seem very well designed, as you'll need every inch of space available to beat the enemy. Also does a great job at making new game mechanics relevant to the appropriate level. The game engages you in actually using the economy aspect of raising/lowering taxes and rations to beat earlier waves. The game has a suprising amount of depth to it, that you wouldn't expect from a game like this. So up until now I had a great time playing this game and I can recommend anyone who is a fan of 2D strategy games to try this.

  I like all kinds of games, and tried Open the Gates right away today. The environment and drawings are very nice, and the game is easy to play, no need to read tutorials first, just start ;) Although the game is easy to play, it is also challenging. You need to build all kinds of buildings and farms to keep your folks happy, and train soldiers to defend and protect them. Only finished the first level, but I'm afraid I won't stop until I've finished the whole game, it's quite addicting, and I'm looking forward to discover the other levels. Great job of the dev!

  Having played through the main campaign, and touched the siege mode. I think I am ready to have my full review of this game. In short, this is a single player RTS/city management game with decent visual, low budget VA charm, a very responsive main developer, but whose missions feel kinda ... thrown together, and controls that don't feel good. The RTS/city management system reminds me of the First Command & Conquer, but with more bits, and less clarity into why things happen. Like, the mission that introduces apple farms for making citizens happy doesn't actually have enough space to make using them worth it. Also, it's not clear how exactly the city management things work, generally I have learned to avoid interacting with them until a fire happens, and then throwing some resources in there by building a few related buildings. Why do citizens complain about crime and plague, it is unclear. It takes till the 5th world for the tab make a thing system to be what I really want for it, and separate military production buildings for walls, and things that can be installed on them. The last level sequence is a mix of replaying old levels, mostly, and the win condition becoming wave defense, which isn't communicated to the player Unit control is not precise, and it basically impossible to exclude unit types in your selection, which is annoying with how the air transport ship work. Some of these issues I can see being fixed, but I honestly can't recommend this game.

  This is a fun little game, until it suddenly gets way too hard. I like tug of war games like that - while different, the Kingdom and Circle Empires series are some of my favorite games, but they are balanced, or offer sandbox that prevents you from hitting a wall. It's a shame, because Open the games is charming little game that reminded me of Stronghold, and the game is cheeky - when was the last time when you alt-tabbed a game and it started complaining and asking you when you're going to return? It pains me to give the negative, especially because the dev really cares, but the game annoyed me at that point. You can't save in the middle of a mission, and because they eventually get longer and more complex, this becomes an issue. They are Billions got really bad at the end, but at least I've quit that game in last mission, where I just couldn't hold the final attack, and I've played through most of it. Here, I got shafted not even in the middle. I got completely stuck in ninth mission in the desert, where the enemy just pumps massive amounts of infantry, far more than I could ever muster. Once I got close and actually managed to attack the castle, but got destroyed - and after you lose your army, you can't rebuild in time before another massive attack comes (yes, the AI cheats, of course). I could perhaps spend few more hours to play this mission over and over, but I am not hardcore enough to waste my time on this. It is not fun by that point. I think some further balancing would help. I can't imagine how much more difficult the game gets after this.

  This game has a set of mechanic that will work against the player, not matter what the player does. There is Happiness for your citizens, which contributes to another mechanic. The issue here is that it does not seem to matter though. The mechanic is explained that happy citizens will not lead to troublesome citizens. yet the mechanic does not work. making your citizens happy does not matter at all. This game is not balanced. I would wait on this one for more polish.

  Pretty fun but control is of unit is horrible; it's hard to do precise movement and sometimes, it feels stupid to move your units around. When you try to attack with range only units, sometimes, they just walk up to the enemy and shot while other times stays at a distance. Ladder and siege units are difficult to utilize (very difficult to have them do what they do instead of stand still at the back of combat). Cavalry units seems to walk up to enemey and stabs them instead of bomb rushing back and forth. I only got to the winter biome as of comment, but the game is fun.

  A very interesting side-scrolling RTS which keeps adding exciting mechanics to every level. It's definitely worth your while!
